Need something new? Black and blue cape recycled from a child's skirt. Dress 248.

Image
What could I wear? A black skirt (made by slitting the inside leg of a pair of stretchy black trousers.  My black leather Bally shoes because they were just repaired. The bases of the thin heels had cracked in the years of heat in tropical Singapore. They looked tiny and narrow. However, they fitted well, with a black elastic piece behind the ankle. Dress 248. I rescued this blue child's skirt which a neighbour threw out. It sat around waiting for me to wear it. I turned it inside out and there was my answer.  A blue and black cape. the final touch was the black and blue hat. I tried on two hats. Plain black band hat was boring. The one with blue leaf pattern was perfect. A touch of colour. Strangely that hat had been rejected many times before. Now it was right. How to create a skirt in pink converted from pyjama bottoms. Dress 247.

Image
Photo by Trevor Sharot. Angela in pink vintage garment, top and skirt. The skirt was made by converting the cotton trousers or pyjama bottoms. The brand is vintage. Comfy clothes were in Queens Park and went out of business. The pattern on the front of the top is white bamboo leaves with small Chinese writing. The base colour is coral pink.  I was looking for a night dress or day dress. I have a day dress which is sleeveless, designed to be worn over a contrasting short or long sleeved under garment. . The top in the same colour.  Comfy clothes came in large loose sizes. They were expensive but had sales once or twice a year. When they went out of business I dashed over to buy what I could.  The garments were stored by them folded and had no hanging straps.  If you have pyjamas or pyjama bottoms which you don't wear, or pyjama bottom loose lounge wear, you can turn them into a skirt suit. Just slit up the inside leg with scissors. I used pinking shears. You ca...

Editing a photo. Dress of the day 246 Sunshine yellow caftan. By Elok

Image
Photo by Trevor Sharot. What do I like about this picture? The jolly smile. The word Welcome on the mat. The ankle strap on the shoes.  Colours The pink of the shoes echoing the mat. The yellow of the umbrella and the ring matching the dress. The orange hat echoing the dress.  Props The umbrella and ring making a come rain come shine combination.  What do I not like?  The reflected white ceiling light behind the head. The white could be edited out if I had time. On the other hand it draws attention to the face.  The dress could be a better outline to show its shape.  The carpet  fringe could easily be edited out. On the other hand it makes a frame to the picture.  The swimming ring at night is absurd. Why am I holding it? Maybe I am just tidying up. How to convert white uniform trousers into a skirt. Dress of the day 245 with pink accessories

Image
Angela in a converted skirt from a white uniform. Photo by Trevor Sharot. It took less than five minutes for me to slit up the inside legs of a pair of discarded white uniform trousers. (Americans say pans. To the British pants means what Americans call underpants.) If you wear the skirt as I do, the two slits are at the sides. The pockets are centre front and centre back. CUTTING The pinking shears are my latest joy. I bought them from Spotlight in Singapore. Instead of the usual serrated edge like a series of small A or V shapes VVVVVVVV the shears cut a series of neat scallops like tiny of domes. It looks very neat. The white camisole top is by Choccolat. I concealed the revealing spagetti straps with a cover up denim mini-jacket. How I lost weight and fitted into old clothes : Dress of the day 244: Swimsuit with diagonal stripes, diet

Image
Angela Lansbury, May 2021. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Swimsuit Jantzen (vintage), made in the USA. I love the way the bar across the A looks like a swimmer. I guessed the name Jantzen might be related to sen meaning son and Jan or Jon or John.  I looked it up. The first result I found was Danish, from Jehovah, Hebrew, for God. (Remember the two names for God in biblical times were Ja or Jo letter used in Joseph and Jehovah's witnesses, and El or al, later morphed into Allah. The name Joel combines the two.  The Jantzen company started in the USA in 1916, making knitted garments. The company owners were members of a rowing club. Like levis, the manufacturers were approached by customers. Customers wanted lighter bathing suits so the wearer could swim.  The success of their product, light enough for swimming unimpeded, changed clothing from heavy, loose, all-covering bathing suits to light form-fitting swimsuits. The diving girl became their symbol which changed slightl...
