Tank top on top of jacket - makes a new outfit. Dress 781 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
Update - Wear Tank Top On Top I went to hang up the tank top. Not having another hanger handy, I put it on top of the jacket. Although the jacket pocket adds bulk under the tank top, that is a way of getting a second wearing if the jacket has a stain on the front, to create a second look for a second day, cheering the wearer and onlookers. This is what is hidden underneath. Yesterday's look. When the jacket was done up, you lost the tank tops edged neckline and braided sleeves. I have a symmetrical outfit.  Neater. And more attention to a speaker's face, rather than their body, chest and waist. The effect you prefer might depend on whether you are walking about at a cocktail party or buffet, or sitting at dinner, or speaking, seated, at a committee The Tank Top Tank tops are usually plain, sleeveless, no bust darts, round necks, wide shoulder strap part of the front.  The matching tank top is completely hidden when you do up the collar of the jacket.  For an altern...

Indigo Moon Embroidered Brown backgound with lavender and pink jacket of the day 485

Image
Label Indigo Moon.  The Cut The jacket has two slits or vents at the bottom of the two side seams under the arms at waist level and below. No pockets. No darts. Sleeves Wide sleeves. Lined. The whole jacket is lined in black. Collar Simple shirt style collar. Buttons Six middle-size buttons with eight sets of alternating single and parallel cuts. A bit like a clockface. A sevenths buttons is sewn inside on a waaist level tab. But no washing instructions. Sequins and Beads The sequins are not too scratch, although one of two have curled up. What does upset my fingertips, which have no pockets to hide in, are the teeny beads. They are tubular with indentations like fine fork marks. But what makes them so uncomfortable is the two 'circular' edges, as if they have been chopped off a long glass tube, leaving sharp bits of glass. I looked to see whether I could remove them. Would it ruin the appearance of the jacket? No, I don't think so. The large contrast colour satin flowers wo...

Santa Claus red hat and matching red shouldered jacket, jolly against green seasonal holly, dress no 257

Image
Angela wearing a Santa hat by a holly bush. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The Background This photo was taken on Xmas Day 2023. The holly grows all year but is suitable for a seonal picture. The Skirt The skirt is silk. It is soft. One of my favourites. From Patra, the UK firm which specilises in silk. The skirt is thin with a think black lining.  The Vivid Orange-Red Tee-Shirt The tee-shirt is an orange-red tie dye pattern. Soft and stretchy. From Primark. Size large. Primark is always such good value. UK size 14/16, The Orange Sandals The orange sandals with hook and close on the ankle strap and across the toe always fit. They don't protect you much when it is raining. I love the flower effect on the toe bar. Fancy. Smart. The decoration upgrades the sandals. Cushion-Walk. Leather Lined. Size 4. The Blouse You may have seen this before in previous posts. It dries out fast, 1-2 days. I lost a button. An inconvenience. But found I had a spare button on the lower left label. Then I...

Banner Background and Red Eyelet Dress of the Day 782 - with a jacket dressed like a teacher!

Image
Angela Lanssbury at HOD Toastmasters in London, England, UK. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. I was the General Evaluator at HOD Speakers club in London. UK. They said they did not have time for a group photo. So I took one of myself by the banner. When taking photos with a banner, the photographer must make sure that the subject is at one side and not obscuring the name of the organization and venue. You may wish to take a couple of photos, or three, left, right, and centre, for use in different places. You might use the photo in different places. For example, to promote the club, or show the subject and the subject's clothes. As a General Evaluator, next time I shall advise the club whose meeting I am evaluating to add photo taking to the end of the first half of the meeting before the break. That means you do not forget to take the photo. You do not miss out on the photo because the meeting is running late and you need to vacate the room. Your photo does not miss on anybody ...

Dress of the day 557, sherawani kurta with jacket

Image
Sherawani kurta with jacket. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. The photo does not do justice to the luxurious look of the iridescent fabric in a golden colour. Photo taken on the MRT train after the Toastmasters International Gala Dinner in 2023. The jacket has five buttons, three handy pockets, a mandarin, upstanding collar. The jacket fabric has a repeating pattern. The sleeves and skirt and trousers are plain.   You can buy a woman's kurta with a long tunic which has split sides, worm over straight trousers.  You can buy different styles of trousers with a drawstring at the ankles.  For a wedding you might opt for a luxurious fabric with gold or silver thread which will be more expensive, as suits a fine, special occasion. Green shirt and silk jacket 581

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing green skirt and jacket, dress of the day 581. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The Ensemble I started with a 2022 green broderie anglaise skirt. I found a silk jacket to match. Vintage. Never worn. Now was its day. How to fill in underneath? I had a pale green shirt, a man's shirt from Marks & Spencers, discarded by my husband. Shoes - not my usual red shoes. My husband hates Crocs and big toe shoes. He prefers high heels, elegant shoes. Sorry, I had a fancy pair of multi coloured shoes, but I was already falling off the heels the moment I tried them on. I went back to the sensible and comfortable green modern clogs.  Green The jacket is green and blue. Green for gardening. Green colour goes with a gardening environment. Green shoes go just right for standing amid the greenery on the balcony.  The Pose I am standing with my hands in my pockets to show the pockets. Secrets Of The Silk Jacket Silk is special, to me. Silk used to be a luxury item. But it...

How To Dress For A Contest With Pin-On Microphones - and Where and How To Sit For Photos, Dress of the Day 532

Image
Angela Lansbury, at a contest. Photo from Saddiq.  Where To Sit? You can see me in the front row, wearing red. It is always good to sit in the front row. As a contestant I was placed in the front row. If you are speaking on stage it is convenient to be at the end of the row and near the front and near the central aisle so you can get out in a hurry. Red makes me visible. The shoes, the top and the lipstick are all matching. Pin-on Microphones The organizers arranged for us to all practise pinning on the microphones at the right height and checking that they worked.   On previous occasions, at contests, there had been delays to the event and stress to the contestants and confusion about the timing of the speeches, and whether to re-start. Why? Because the battery had died or the contestant forgot to turn on the microphone. So we were briefed to ask, 'Can you hear me?', before starting to speak.  Masks We had all been sitting, half of us with masks. I removed min...

Red cape blazer, from Shein, outfit (dress of the day) 479

Image
From Shein: Angela Lansbury is wearing a red cape blazer. Selfie photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. Red Cape Blazer  The fabric meets all the way across to button up. It has two large central buttons. No spare button. The collar is lined. The lining goes down the front under the buttons and buttonholes. The shoulders are padded.   The two deep flaps are false pockets.  The narrow neck label with the name Shein is sewn at the edges left and right only, so it could be used as a hanging loop. However, given the creasing, I would hang it on a hanger. Style  This really is a cape. The sleeve is the edge of the cape, sewn down across the front of the shoulder. (Unlike my other jackets,  97% polyester, 3 % elastane. Creases badly. But I like it. The vibrant red seems to glow. My white nail varnish looks terrific against the red. Size Size M. EU 38. US 6. Made in China.  White Nail Varnish White nail varnish from Tesco Express was only about 2.50 GDP (Grea...

Converting a fitted single bed sheet into a jacket. Dress of the Day 339

Image
Turquoise fitted bed sheet cut into a jacket. Selfie by Angela Lansbury. I looked at a fitted single bed sheet. I want a new outfit.  The single bedsheet is too small for my double bed. It does not match anything else. I could loosen the elastic at the corners and use it as an emergency bed cover sheet, just on my side of the bed,  when sleeping alone in the six foot wide double bed, perhaps when having an afternoon nap, when my large duvet cover, washed first thing in the morning and hung out to dry, is not yet dry from the washing and airing. But it does not match a pillowcase. I have no need to keep it for the bed. I have too many sets of bedding. I have not the energy to change the bedding every day for the novelty. But I do like to wear a new outfit every day. I can never have too many clothes. Yes, I might as well convert the spare fitted sheet into an outfit I can wear. Cutting However, the challenge of converting the item, with the elastic still in it, overwhelms...

Dress of the day 254. Going grunge. Upcycling. Convert a girl's embroidered, embellished denim trousers into a woman's skirt.

Image
Angela going grunge. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The magic of this outfit is the converted too small jeans. The top is the easy bit. If you have a small jacket, just leave it undone. And/or enlarge the sleeve holes. Or slit it down the sides and wear it as a tabard. To hold it in place, my favourite easy adjustment, add two ribbons. All you do is sew on two small pieces of ribbon. Buy ribbons cheaply from a cut price store. Or borrow the rope or fabric handles from paper tote bags which you and other people throw out. The Top Alice Fashion Shop VIP  The label says NTS 400. Pockets It has two small pockets. They do not do up securely. Large enough for a paper hanky or key. Buttons The pockets are both decorated with one button which says JEANS, in capital letters, rivetted on. The metal buttons on the pockets are the same size as the five buttons down the front, which just about go through the cut open buttonholes. Another button is on each epaulette. I had not noticed the epaule...

Dress of the Day 204 (a) Orange Apart Impressions Jacket

Image
Dress of the Day 204. Orange Apart Impressions Jacket. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Jacket Orange Apart Impressions, size 7. I can wear it but it is uncomfortable so I have slung it over my shoulders. However it goes well with the blouse.  The blouse is a sixties style tie-neck blouse.  The label says Lady Lichfield, N Z made, size 36, polyester blend. When you look at the colours closely you can see two shades or paler and brighter orange circles, lavender, pale olive green, yellow, pale grey and charcoal grey.  Multi-coloured blouses Such a busy pattern. Five sizes of circles. The fabric is in strips of smooth alternating with a raised material. Making Matching Material Buttons  The buttons are self-covered in the same fabric. If you are interested in making clothes with matching buttons, you can buy buttons with a clip on top which you cover and push on. Sometimes there is a hidden spike. You could also take one of those tie pins with a spike and cover the top w...
