How I Restored A Tarnished Ring With Nail Varnish. Post 821 in Dress of The Day by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I found an old ring which was tarnished. I wondered what kind of paint I could use on metal which would not be dangerous against my skin. I was in the bathroom and glanced around. Nail varnish. That must be safer on skin than other paints. My first coat of nail varnish created a dark, browny red.  But I added a second coat of nail varnish, the effect was bright red. https://nailicy.com/article/how-to-paint-rings-with-clear-nail-polish

Anthony Sicari Outfit and Union Jack Hat for a speech contest Dress of the Day 625

Image
Anthony Sicari Outfit The Anthony Sicary outfit consists of a tknitted white top with a pleated skirt. I wanted the lively pattern of the red, white and blue and green to look lively and smart when I was on stage.  The Top The sleeves are short, so I wore a white long-sleeved blouse underneath.  For added warmth, I added blue mock velvet track suit trousers, over red and black leather boots. The Boots The boots are wide acrooss the toe, like Crocs. This pair is red, with heart shaped leaves like petals arranged in a circle to make a flower on the toe. I have one pair with dark red, and red and black flowers, The other is black with read and black flowers. Union Jack Hat The Union Jack hat came from St Luke's charity shop in Hatch End, north west London. But the place to buy these is from party shops. You can buy lots of items of clothing and souvenirs with Union Jacks in souvenir shops and kioks in central London. The Flags Of Italy and Switzerland The flags were detache...

Nails, nice nails! Post 224. White camelia, symbol of Chanel.

Image
Nails with the white camelia, symbol of Chanel. Photo by Angela Lansbury. I thought the pink nails with the tiny sparkles looked like court shoes. Little black toes, with diamond edging. Chanel Flowers The nails with the all black bases have Chanel white flowers. The Chanel flower is a white camelia. It is on their bags and other items. Coco Chanel apparently put a real white camellia flower on her belt and liked it so much that she made an artificial flower the motif, the identifying motif, of her collection. Applying Nails Ang told me that she paid 58 Singapore dollars to have these gorgeous designs on her nails. It took about 3 hours.  She thought the price was affordable because it is a home business. The price was also good value because the nails last about 2 mon ths.  That sounds long-lasting to me. I used to have my nail painted professionally. They might last a week, maximum two weeks.  Once one of the nail chipped the next day. I phoned and asked if ...

Dress Your Best - How To Hide Bits Of Yourself Which You Want to Hide! Post 545

Known your good side, the good side of your face. Or take three photos or five every time. Face forwards, left, right, and three quarters in both directions. Try the same looking up and down. Pose leaning forwards and backwards. What do we need to hide? Untidy hair, bald patch, roots which need tinting - under a hat or hair band, or a pony tail. Frown lines - under a fringe or brimmed hat. Lined neck or Adam's apple (thyroid cartilage)  - under a polo neck or high neck or scarf or choker.  Tummy Hide a tummy under an A line dress, or a long scarf. Hold a bunch of flowers. Stand behind a table. Stand half hidden behind somebody else. Place a partner seated on a chair and stand behind them. Hide half behind a door or wall, peeking out or waving or holding out a banner or welcome sign or greeting. Sit with a pet on your lap, or a soft toy. Arms and Hands Hid crepey arms under long sleeves. Lack of nail varnish - hands behind back, or holding a bunch of flowers, or a cup, or...

Rescuing, Re-using, Recycling and Upcycling Tote Bag Tapes and String or Rope Handles

These green ribbons are synthetic fabric with a corrugated look and feel. The Green Ribbons I have several green rescued ribbons, from brown paper tote bags which somebody else threw away? My husband or a neighbour? My first thought was to save the ties for use on tote bags which had no proper flat handles, just the string ones which bite into your wrists or arms or rub your sleeves. I put the green ribbons into the drawer of my sewing desk. I opened the drawer and found an odd single green...

Accessory - How To Recycle a Ring

Image
Buddha Ring Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. Do you have any jewellery which is broken or has lost its colour. No need to throw it away.  I had a ring which was battered and discoloured. Here is the back. The front was the same. Restoring shape The first task was to restore the shape so that I could handle it. We used pliers to bend the two prongs of the band apart and straighten them. I also wanted the edges of the ring bent back because they were rubbing on my fingers. Re-Sizing The Ring The ring is quite large. It dwarfed my little fingers. So we expanded it to fit the ring finger or middle finger of both hands. I decided to wear it on my left hand so that it was less likely to get knocked during the day. Painting the Ring My first thought was to paint it with gold paint. Would this be safe against my skin? I had a bottle of nail varnish nearby. My nails needed painting, I started to paint my nails and thought, if I use the nail varnish, it is safe on my skin,  S...
