Socks prevent shoes, sandals and boots from rubbing your feet. When you develop blisters on holiday, it's not just the extra walking. It's also going without protective socks because you are in hot weather.  Socks are also required by some restaurants and clubs in hot countries. So others don't get bothered by smelly feet. Because it looks neater. You can sometimes wear shorts, go topless, or wear a swimsuit, in a poolside bar. But covering up is the rule in the smarter restaurants. It looks neater. More formal. So that is the reason for wearing socks in the day time.  But why wear socks at night? Surely in the dark, with your feet under a dining table, nobody would notice? Why Wear Bedsocks? You wear bed socks for warmth at night. Especially nowadays, when we have duvets instead of blankets. They keep you warm if you turn over and stick your foot out. I love reversible anything. Reversible jackets, tops, coats, belts, bags, capes, dresses. I don't have any reversible shoes or slippers. I do have reversible ankle staps on Crocs, which go behind the heel to hold the shoes on, or foward to put them on and off quickly, or for a looser fit when your feet swell in hote weather, or exertion..  Today, I found  a new idea, simple backless slippers with reversible toe staps which flip from the toe end to the heel so you can put them on from either direction.  They need two arched pieces, one each end. One goes over your toes, the other under your heel. Advnatages, No need to turn around the shoes on the doorstp before leaving or when returning. Would the part going under the heel be uncomfortable? If it's soft it can be okay. On the pllus side, it's a slightly raised heel. An easy way to make home made shoes with a slightly raised back.  Footwear is described differently in countries around the world as I discovered to my dismay. Thongs in Australia  In Australia I went into a beachside bar. A sign on the door said, No thongs. Okay, I was properly dressed in a wrap skirt, no thong underwear revealing buttocks. The barman said, "No thongs." I replied, "That is okay. I am not wearing thongs." He replied, "I can see you are wearing thongs." I was puzzled. How could he see my underwear. Through my clothes? Visible panty line? In any case, he had made a mistake. I was not wearing thong underwear. So, I said, "I am not wearing thongs. How can you see thongs?" He pointed to my feet, "Those are thongs. On your feet. You ARE wearing thongs!" I looked down, and said, "You mean my flip-flops? You call them thongs?" "Yes." "Ah!"
