Hand Washing Clothes Could Damage Fingernails. What's the cure - and Prevention?
I hand wash a lot of clothes - then I have intermittent trouble with my nails. Last week I had washed a lot of clothes, using bleach. My nails started to irritate. By the end of the day the whites at the top of my nails were forming arches down the sides of my nails which were coming away from my fingers. Nail Problem Causes Now I knew what was causing my problem. Letting the bleach get to my skin, maybe. But also I was putting my hands in water too much. First swimming daily. Secondly, washing up by hand in Singapore. (In the UK I can use a dishwasher.) Thirdly, hand washing clothes. Firstly, Prevention I have several solutions, ways to prevent this happening again. 1 Put all clothes in the machine on a low wash. 2 Plumb in a dishwasher. 3 Wear gloves when washing dishes. 4 Wear gloves when washing clothes.
