Euphemisms. Enchanting words. Words which add pleasure to purchases. Gaining a bargain, a gift to oneself. Not second hand, but first love, new to me. Dress of the Day.  First I look for colour. When I look down at my skirt, or sleeve, of my cuffs, what excites my eyes! Looking For The Label The label can keep you confident that you have a quality garment. The label is Be Jealous. Adds colour to liven up the black and white. Red Hat Less than ten pounds. I have them in several colours. I didn't buy them all at once. I didn't want to make a mistake nor break the budget. I bought one to see if the fabric was right. Then re-ordered every now and then. White top with Black hearts The white top with small black hearts comes from Shein. The hearts are small. Subtle. Don't show up well on a photo or if covered by a jacket.  Black and white are easy to match with other clothes. black and white for summer and winter, day and evening. It has two large central buttons. No spare button. The collar is lined. The lining goes down the front under the buttons and buttonholes. The shoulders are padded.   The two deep flaps are false pockets.  The narrow neck label with the name Shein is sewn at the edges left and right only, so it could be used as a hanging loop. However, given the creasing, I would hang it on a hanger. Style  This really is a cape. The sleeve is the edge of the cape, sewn down across the front of the shoulder. (Unlike my other jackets,  97% polyester, 3 % elastane. Creases badly. But I like it. The vibrant red seems to glow. My white nail varnish looks terrific against the red. Size Size M. EU 38. US 6. Shein is, and was recently, according to sources quoted by Wikipedia, the largest online retailer, outdoing Amazon. Shein sells affordable clothes, very popular with teens. The company is based in China but sells to more than 200 countries.  (220!) The name was originally Sheinside, but that was shortened to shein. (Not Shein, rhyming with German ein nor wein.) Chinese 希音 Literal meaning "sound of hope Standard Mandarin Hanyu Pinyin Xīyīn I used translate Google and tried reversing to English- Chinese, and back to Chinese-English. I have a see-through plastic lidded box labelled bow ties and accessories. I had it at the top and had not looked inside it for months, years. I was looking for braces which I inherited from my late uncle Ronnie. I found the braces and a bonus, the black decorative collar and a black hair bow. Both dolled up my black cape blazer.  Black Evening Gloves I also had long black evening gloves. Normally, not much use except for fancy dress.  The gloves' original purpose was to create mystique. Gloves would keep you from touching hands with men, to avoid swapping sticky sweat, and germs, or showing too much flesh. Nowadays Covid-19 But an extra bonus. It also protects the fabric from stains, spills and dirt. However, it disguises and is at odds with the diagonal pattern on the outfit. Whilst wearing it, I did not notice this. The effect becomes apparent when I look at how I appear to others, by looking at the photo.  Turquoise fitted bed sheet cut into a jacket. Selfie by Angela Lansbury. I looked at a fitted single bed sheet. I want a new outfit.  The single bedsheet is too small for my double bed. It does not match anything else. I could loosen the elastic at the corners and use it as an emergency bed cover sheet, just on my side of the bed,  when sleeping alone in the six foot wide double bed, perhaps when having an afternoon nap, when my large duvet cover, washed first thing in the morning and hung out to dry, is not yet dry from the washing and airing. But it does not match a pillowcase. I have no need to keep it for the bed. I have too many sets of bedding. I have not the energy to change the bedding every day for the novelty. But I do like to wear a new outfit every day. I can never have too many clothes. Yes, I might as well convert the spare fitted sheet into an outfit I can wear. My third bargain price dress from my hurried Holland Village shop is this soothing but lively blue. What can we learn from this picture? Photo by Trevor Sharot. This dress is one of three short knee length dresses with the same cut, which I bought in Holland Village, Singapore. I love palm trees and soothing sky blue makes a change from my usual colour scheme of vibrant, riotous reds and outrageous oranges. I have been buying cape blazers from BooHoo in Britain and from China. They smarten up any evening outfit. Black and white are the most versatile colours. Black with a black skirt and lots of different outfits makes for something which won't show the dirt if you spill curry on your clothes in a restaurant. However, I have now started hunting for other colours. And styles. Capes which fit securely on the shoulders, attached to the bodice of a jacket, but reveal the arms are elegant evening wear, warm but smart and sexy. The style has crept into trouser suits.   The shirred dress with a practical jacket for a hot daytime. This was the outfit 252 with the same dress and different accessories which I have described in the previous post. The lace bolero created a more dressy look. The Grey Jacket The brand name on the label is Angelic Eyes. I did not want to take off my new dress. I had a grey sleeveless jacket ready for recycling. I was thinking about removing the buttons and pockets. It has a hood. The colour was dull. However, when I wanted to use the off cuts to make a jacket, I thought I would look at the shape of the shoulders of an existing jacket which I possessed. This grey jacket was lying nearby.  My second thought was to use its shape as a base and sew the new fabric on top. Never mind fitting in sleeves or making neat edges. I could use my fabric pieces as large patches.
