The White Collar On The Black businesslike dress, dress of the day, 527

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a white blouse under a round necked collarless dress. The White Blouse The blouse is by label Miss Unique. Embroidered Collar The embroidered collar makes it fancy. Not quite as businesslike as a plain white men's shirt collar.  Removable button-On Tie The blouse had a matching tie which fixes to the bop button of the white blouse. The tie is removable.  I removed the tie because it clashed with the pattern on the dress.  Collar Styles Styles you might recognize from their names are stand up collar, and turn down collar, and button down collar, and notched collar. The Black Dress The label is Batik Kereta Kencana, made in Indonesia. Kereta is the Malay and Indonesian languages word for car, coach or train. Kankana means bangle, or bracelet and Kancana is also an Indian girls first name. Kereta Kencana is agreeably and memorably alliterative. The black dress has two large square front pockets. The pattern in a black background, with a blue, w...

Editing a photo. Dress of the day 246 Sunshine yellow caftan. By Elok

Photo by Trevor Sharot. What do I like about this picture? The jolly smile. The word Welcome on the mat. The ankle strap on the shoes.  Colours The pink of the shoes echoing the mat. The yellow of the umbrella and the ring matching the dress. The orange hat echoing the dress.  Props The umbrella and ring making a come rain come shine combination.  What do I not like?  The reflected white ceiling light behind the head. The white could be edited out if I had time. On the other hand it draws attention to the face.  The dress could be a better outline to show its shape.  The carpet  fringe could easily be edited out. On the other hand it makes a frame to the picture.  The swimming ring at night is absurd. Why am I holding it? Maybe I am just tidying up.   Angela Lansbury at Table at 7. Photo from Angela's mobile phone camera.  The Dress The dress is silk, soft and light, but delicate.  The label is Wanita. Wanita means woman in Malaysian and Indonesian. The garment is made in Malaysia.   It is batik. Batik is wax-resist dyeing. The Pattern The colour scheme background is black, or dark grey.  The large flower pattern has orange and white flower petals with vivid fuchsia pink flower centres, and two shades of pale lime green.  The black background is easy to look after. It doesn't get dirty on the hemline nor on the neck. On the other hand, it would tear easily. So I don't wear it for going hiking, nor on and off buses and trains. (On this occasion we went both ways to lunch and back in a taxi.) I don't wear it for long. The pattern is on both front and back. The Caftan Style You Could Copy The style is floor length caftan. Two vertical seams are about a hand width in from the edge. (Very easy if you w...
