Orange and red dress with long jacket. Temu. Dress of the Day 733 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
Temu Ladies Clothes Sets I spent hours looking at different sets, styles, colours. For my summer holiday, holidays, this year, next year, forever. What I was originally looking for was this, a long dress with a long matching coat, to make me look co-ordinated, elegant. And taller. Jacket Length Thickness and Weight I knew from previous experience that short jackets would be matching fabric to the dress. The long jackets, however were not even as thick as duster coats, but an ultra-thin, almost see-through fabric. Never mind. The sleeves are too long. That leaves me with several options. The simplest and quickest is to turn them back into a cuff. I like the jacket left open. It shows the lively pattern of the dress. The Dress Style - Spaghetti Straps I had not wanted spaghetti straps. You need something to hold bra straps out of the way, or a co-ordinating vest. The straps slip off. You expose too much around the arm pits for elegance, showing bits of bras, or breasts. No protecti...

Red dress from Primark 723

Image
Photo by Angela Lansbury This striking red outfit attracted my attention from a distance. The lady wears only two colours, red and black. Red Red dress from Primark is the anchor. She says, ' I love Primark. I buy a lot from there.' Red gloves, without fingertips, from Covent Garden.  Red beret. Red hoop ear-rings. Red lipstick. I checked on line for Covent Garden - which brings up shops in Covent Garden, Covent Garden clothes, which brings up clothes shops in Covent Garden, Covent Garden label, which brings up label making companies in Covent Garden, and in Ebay Covent Garden, with clothes selected as a category. On Ebay I found a few items of coats, and tee shirts and shirts, labelled London Covent Garden, one or two described as vintage, if used accurately meaning more than twenty years old. I then tried companies house to see if the company was still in business but could only find Covent Garden London for a real estate company. Black Strong colour contrast. Black jacket...

Hooded dressing gown dress of the night with Angela, post 427. How to Photograph Yourself in silhouette.

Image
I bought this from Ebay. It's second hand, one off. I was searching for red and night dress and up popped this seasonal red garment with a hood. The hood was a plus, So was the slit for the hands.  On the other hand it was too small. As you can see from the creases, It's tight below the waist. I thought, maybe I can cut off the top. I was worried that it would be in poor condition but it was acceptable. Picture Editing On Phones Why am I in silhouette? And how did I do it? I used to do this a long time ago but have nt done it recently. I needed it because the background was unsuitable. Too many items which were unsuitable. Part of a door, a curtain. I tried removing the background by cropping but it still looked ridiculous.  irrelevant, distracting. However, I recently tried clicking on some options in my editing function on my phone and re-discovered something Samsung calls lassoo. You encircle the item you want to keep.  I used to find this very fiddly. If you we...

Sheep tee-shirt from Temu Dress of the Day 404

Image
Angela wearing a tee-shirt with sheet. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Selfie. Copyright. White hat and white sheep pattern long-sleeved tee-shirt from Temu.  I ordered XL and it is huge on me. I kept it. It fits over other clothes if I want to wear it as a prop on stage for a humorous speech contest. Anthony Sicari cardigan 378

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing an Anthony Sicari cardigan over a caftan. Photo by Trevor Sharot, cropped by Angela Lansbury.. The Cardigan The Caftan Accessories No necklace. Why? Because the pattern of both garments is already cluttered. Poshmark.com Lots of lovely Anthony Sicari items at reasonable prices but unfortunately does not ship to the UK, only to the USA.

Red, White and Blue Holiday Dress (label Swarna) Post 351

Image
Angela Lasnbury wearing a red, white and blue holiday dress. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Holiday Buys This red, white and blue dress was bought on a previous holiday. I only wore it once or twice because I bought it towards the end of the holiday. Besides, one of the reasons for buying soething new on holiday is to have something new to wear. Now, on a second holiday, the dress has a second outing. Even though I am with some of the same people, they may have forgotten the dress. I had forgotten it! Advantages Of Thin Fabric The cotton is very lightweight, thin. Takes up little room in the suitcase.  The Colour Scheme The white effect of the bodice is summery. Blue and red gives me a choice of accessories for co-ordination and different looks. Sleeves The sleeves are long enough to protect from draughts and sun, but light enough to push up. Belt I particularly liked the two half ribbons at the waist. They act as a belt and add a bit of shape. I remember looking at a rack of dresses, mos...

Black summer Jacket over Anthony Sicari outfit 340

Image
Photo by Angela Lansbury. I had been wearing a loose hooded jacket all the rainy season of winter and spring in the UK and Europe. Then the weather turned summy for five minutes. My husband frowned at my jacket. So I looked for a lighter jacket without a hood. I found a lightweight black jacket. It was short, waist length, small enough not to create a clutter or need hanging up. The brand label is Wallis Exclusive. Made in the UK. Dry Clean - Why? The label warns, dry clean only. Why? Because if the fabric shrinks in washing. Or the lining is a different fabric so when you wash it, the seams pucker, the item hands wrongly, it is too tight. Or the colours run. Or this happens on high heat and in case the person washing makes a mistake they will complain or be dis satisfied with the product. I think if I am very careful to wash on cold, the garment will stay the same colour and not shrink. I don't dry clean anything. I would wash it or rince it in cold water and hang it up to dry, ho...

Red Thai silk dress, outfit 329

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a red Thai silk outfit. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The Tunic The matching skirt The red skirt is wrap around. My friend Titin from Indonesia called it a cheongsam. Yes, I supposed it is. I have several of these in different colours. Bright red, worn here. Royal blue background. Wine colour. You can buy reasonably priced sleeveless tank tops in several colours on ebay from Thaistyle asia. Also tissue box covers, cushions, men's boxer shorts, men's short sleeve shirts. They may be a bit shapeless. Depends whether you like your clothes fitted or roomy and relaxing. What Is Thai Silk? Ebay is presumably quite strict about describing silk, because several of the websites describe their products as faux silk. Faux is French for false. But the French sounds much more complimentary than the equivalent English world. I get lots of compliments on this outfit. Chinese Knots Notice the black Chinese knot fastening at the neck. If you want to buy the Chinese knots, they...

Polish Flag colours, red and white, dress of the day 311

Image
ANGELA  Lansbury earing the colours of the Polish flag, white above red.   In Singapore I wore a red top and white skirt for Singapore's national day. The colours are in the opposite positions to Poland's flag. In Singapore the red, lucky to Chinese cultures, is at the top. The additional moon n is a Muslim symbol because Singapore was oriinally part of Malaya until the two separated into Malaysia and Singapore. In the UK for a speech on Poland I wore a wwhite blouse with a red skirt. No shortage of food in red and white if you ever want a red and white themed meeting. Wines are red and white too. FlAG OF IiNDONESIA The flag of Indonesia is like Singapore's with the red above and the white below.\ Your red and white outfits can be worn for Polish occasionas, Singapore national Day in August, Indonesian occasionas, Christmas, and Valentine's Day. Union Jack Dress of The Night, Fancy Dress Costume In Flag Design, Dress of the Night 597

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a Union Jack dress. Union Jack Dress The dress is a pull-on, stretchy, sequined dress in red, white and blue, the colours of the Union Jack flag of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.  You can buy this or similar ones on Amazon for a penny under twenty pounds in British currency. You can reset the website to your preferred currency. I wore this for a second year running at an annual conference. It seemed popular. Half the people were different and had not seen it before. I got lots of compliments and raised eyebrows and smiles. The Wig The wig is also in red, white, and blue. The British people say fancy dress party. Americans say, a costume party.  Useful Websites https://www.fancydress.com/collections/usa-costumes https://www.amazon.co.uk/BRITANNIA-SEQUINNED-DRESS-FANCY-PATRIOTIC/dp/B I like this version with sleeves, if you are willing to spend about 23 pounds and something pence. Red dickey, detachable fake collar / half shirt, dress 586

Image
I ordered online my red dickey or detachable collar with a fake shirt front. I already have two plain white collars with fake shirt fronts. They are really handy to make a simple tee shirt or top look smarter, more businesslike, or more interesting. This version in red adds jolly colour.  It co-ordinates with red sandals and a red belt and red lipstick to create a unified look.  It brightens up a dress in funereal black. The red makes me feel happy, vibrant.  A great success. I shall wear it a lot. I might order other colours. Angela Lansbury wearing a red fake shirt collar. Photo from Angela Lansbury. Copyright. The technical name is dickey. The name fake collar is misleading. The collar is real, but nothing is attached to the u-shape front except two pieces of elastic under the arms.  Red fake collar from ebay. Other colours offered include useful white, or black. The yellow colour is mustardy, not to my taste. The green is a dark green. They might go with ot...

Dramatic Dress of the Day 578 - red white and blue, union Jack hat, orange reversible dress and Jacques Vert Blouse.

Image
Angela Lansbury in a Jaques Vert blouse and reversible dress. Copyright. HOD Speakers in North Harrow.  Please share links to your favourite posts. Blouse Jacques Vert. Imitation pocket. The buttons on the blouse show through the thin dress. How can I hide the bumps of the buttons? I must find a vest to wear on top of the blouse, but one which does not show at the neck and arms, maybe a camisole. A tie worn inside or outside the dress, so long as it is on top of the blouse, could also work.  I hope it shows only in the static photo. Nobody would notice when I am sitting down with a handbag or clipboard or notebook on my lap, and a jacket. Nor would anybody notice when I am leaping around on stage when you are watching the gestures of my arms or hands, and the expressions on my face. I took off my navy vest which has handy pockets in order to display the dress for the photo. Dress Orange worn on this occasion. The other side is pink. Yes, it's a reversible dress. This si...

Storage of Hair bows 574. Pink, black, white, which colours for different professions or times of day or occasions?

Image
Hair bow holder. Photo courtesy of funny, feisty, fashionista Faith. The pocket storage is from Diaso, from the Disney Princess range. Guess Faith's favourite colour? Pink. Pink is the modern colour for girls. Pink for girls and blue for boys. I read that the Victorians originally used the reverse colours.  Previously, pink was considered unsuitable for men. Then it became trendy. Queen Victoria made white wedding dresses popular. But the Chinese think red is lucky.  The Indians wear white for purity when burying the dead. They, too, would opt for a bright colour instead. Is pink the colour for romance, hearts for single hopeful women, dates for the single and date nights for the married. The Black Dress For Evenings and Businesslike Black In Daytime At one time the little black dress was de rigeur for evening wear. It was considered elegant, uncluttered, simple, sophisticated. What about daytime? Work? Would black and white look businesslike? Would black and white be m...

Dress 565, Red, ready in a reversible dress, transformed for the evening by the bow. Secretly freshen up when travelling.

Image
Reversible dress, worn the plain red side, with red sandals and a red hair bow on a clip. Photo by Trevor Sharot. This reversible dress has one side plain red. When I received it in the post, bought from ebay, I was a bit disappointed. However, today I got it out and found it was the perfect under garment for a long red skirt under a short red skirt, or to match any red top. Very versatile on holiday. Neat and plain, like the plain colour outfits with matching hats and shoes worn by the British royal family. The Reversible Dress Like so many reversible dresses, no label. A mystery. The Sandals Red sandals. From Free-step. Bought in England by mail order. UK Size 4. Upper leather. Lining and sock textile. Adjustable ankle strap and adjustable wide bar across the toes. Adjustable sandals are handy when you used to have to remove your shoes to go through security on long haul flights. On Whiszzair in June 2023 from Luton to Tirana, the capital of Albania, and back again, I did not g...

Dress of the Day 562 with Dreamcatcher's Kate Spade Tote Bag, Dress of the Day 562

Image
I admired this tote bag carried by my good friend, who goes my the name of Dearmcatcher. Her bag is the brand Kate Spade, New York. the bag is a clean cream colour, with a pattern of red and orange charries, so it can go with many colours. She said it was a very reasonable price. Strange. When I went online all the bags of this brand were around 100 sing dollars. One  see something you like at a reasonable price, buy it.

Tube skirt from Indonesia converted into a caftan, outfit 550

Image
Angela Lansbury, wearing a caftan made from a converted tube skirt bought in Indonesia. Photo by Trevor Sharot. See also post 521, I picked this up off my sewing table where I had left it for further sewing and maybe cutting. I previously had safety pins across the top. this time I added two new features The Neck Slit I simply cut a vertical slit half way along the fabric neckline for the front of the neck. The main reason is that the horizontal line rubbed uncomfortably against my neck. I could prevent this happening by adding ribbon across the middle of the top of the fabric to make the horizontal line an inch or two lower. However, making a cut was an instant, quick solution. I used pinking sheers. Besides, I thought it added interest. It made the outfit look more like a shaped dress and less like two bits of oblong fabric. To keep the two cut pieces folded down, I could sew on two small shirt buttons, or two fancy buttons, in black, white, brown, red, blue or gold. The ...

Kimono and Japanese wall hanging Dress of the day 525 - and similar effect short and long kimonos for you from Amazon, Ebay, Light in the box, and Shein

Image
I had a photo of myself with the red Japanese wall hanging. When I looked at the photo I could see that the lady in the picture was looking at my stomach. I needed to lift the wall hanging higher. I also wanted a Japanese outfit to complement the wall hanging. I had a kimono with a white background and red pattern. Just the thing. Angela wearing a red and white kimono and carrying a red Japanese wall hanging.  Photo by Trevor Sharot. See post 523 which shows the wall hanging lower down, how it enhances another red outfit with a butterfly theme blouse. Post 523 has a photo using a filter to add posterize and change the effect and add interest and colours. Please bookmark and share links to your favourite posts. On close up I could see that the patterns were fans and flowers. I could have chosen as my accessories either fans or flowers. The great thing about the cut of the wrap around large sleeve kimono is that it fits you whatever your size.  In Singapore look for Isetan...
