 Ah - dress codes. If you are wearing shorts after sports, a suitable place to stop for a cold drink is the outdoors Sports bar on the ground floor of the Tanglin Club sports centre. Across the road from the main house with the fancy restaurants with their dress codes. I have been going to the Tanglin for ages and never knew about this Sports bar. I knew about the upstairs indoor eating area. But not the outdoors one. You can wear your sports shorts and sports clothes in this bar next to the squash courts. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Just the place if you are a Singaporean used to tropical weather, or an Ozzzie who likes the outdoors and informal, casual clothing. Or a Brit who likes escaping from winter weather in the UK with year round summer clothing and outdoor dining and drinking. Other displays were on the reception desk, and at the entrance to the largest Restaurant, The Churchill Restaurant. The smallest display was in the Ladies toilet by the mirrors. Where can you find flower displays for photos? Many hotels have flower displays. The same goes for apartment blocks and public buildings, even gardens at railway stations in the UK.  Look around the city where you live and all the places you visit on holiday and for events. Several people liked my 'hat'.  Useful Websites You could easily make a photo corner at a family Christmas party. Set up a real or fake camera on a tripod with a photographer. A plain wall or draped sheet as a background. Or  print off a Christmas scene or hang up a Christmas theme tee towel or tee shirt or print one off blown up to poster size or a smaller one in a frame, or a tree as a prop. Put a few hats, masks and other props and printed signs on a table.  Props You can buy a bag of props inexpensively at Daiso or any supermarket or online from party shops. You can make bows or bow ties in red or white or green from fabric or paper. Or print colour onto paper - or just the frame of paper (to save on ink).  Print a word such as Merry Christmas. Or Happy New Year. Add Happy Birthday for a group of 30 or more people. One person is likely to be celebrating ...

Angela Lansbury at the Tanglin Club, in Singapore. The Orange Skirt I am wearing an orange silk skirt. it has a zip, three metallic domed buttons at the head of the zip, and two side pockets. I love the colour and the feel. Orange Bag Matched with an orange tote bag. Orange tee-shirt The tee-shirt with a pattern of oranges amuses me. I bought it for only 5 dollars in the basement of Bukit Panjang.  I went back again a couple of days later, no sign of the stalls. Sometimes those cheap stalls actually belong to the more expensive and larger shops and department stores upstairs. But the bargain basement wheeling display units show piles of stocks of cheap sale items. Orange Footwear Orange-red Crocs style clogs, with a small black koala pattern. Orange Scarf the orange scarf is to protect me from the chill of air conditioning in the lounge. The scarf also doubles as protection for the blouse and skirt when I am eating lunch, tea or dinner.   Angela, selfie with a glass of Prosecco. Before leaving home, I had a shower and washed my hair. I used conditioner to make my hair a bit less fly away. The selfie came out slightly blurred.. However, my Samsung mobile phone, in editing, offered the option 'enhance'. I had seen this option previously. Then it disappeared. I now suspect that when its program detects a slightly blurred picture it offers enhance. The result is still slightly blurred, but it does me a favour. I look less baggy eyed and wrinkly. Much more flattering. The Prosecco does not have big visible bubbles like the more expensive Champagne. However, you can feel a slight tingling on your tongue. We were in the grand, large, formal, Churchill Room restaurant. My husband had been reading a book about Churchill, so, at last, being in the Churchill Room did not feel like an anachronism, but relevant. The picture is reversed right to left. I just realised that when reading the Happy Birthday wording on the hat. ...

In case they forgot, I had with me both a home made badge with the words happy birthday stuck over it (which sank to the bottom of my tote bag and got forgotten), and my happy birthday hat from Daiso. It is small enough to pack inside a small handbag. it can be seen by serving staff close up, without causing a distraction to others in a restaurant. The Happy Birthday Hat That worked a treat. Firstly, a member of staff wished me happy birthday.  Later, another member of staff wished me happy birthday, and produced a cigarette lighter and asked if I wanted him to light the candle on my hat. (A joke of course. The candle is fabric.) By then, I had forgotten that I was wearing it.  Without prompting they produced a tiny one person cheesecake with a lit candle. The Headband - take or create a coloured headband You might get given a headband, or you can buy one. My family received a Santa headband from the Tanglin club in Singapore at their tree-lighting ceremony. If you have an adult's or child's headband in a plain colour, you can wind red, white or green ribbon around it in a spiral, or sew or stick a fabric piece along the top. You could also print red, white or green paper and cut a strip to cover the top of the headband. Headbands slide off my silky hair. I looked around for something white and red to wear like a Santa hat. The Red and White Clothes - Caftans I started creating the ensemble with a red top. The setting is so realistic that one of Angela's friends thought it was in the UK. The cosy corner with the fireside chair is actually a photo opportunity corner set up by the management of the Tanglin Club in the centre of Singapore. The dress has no label which suggests that I bought it on Ebay. The scarf with sequins is large and covers up a lot of clothes. The lace gloves are cheap, available online from party shops from several suppliers. They add elegance to an outfit. The red toe-post shoes have the label COVET.
