Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. Paperclips  I was sewing a wide neck strap onto the neck of an apron. The strap had become detached. I needed to fix it on.  I used a paperclip. The material of the apron was plastic backed. I did not want to make holes in it and risk tearing with a pin or safety pin. The paperclip worked well at first. No risk of leaving a pin on the neck of a garment.  Then the paperclip fell off.  I put it back on, the small part of the paperclip on the front. The little paperclip held onto the fabric just long enough for me to make my first stitch. What other alternatives could you use instead of pins? Glue. Staples. I shall definitely remember this paperclip trick for when I don't have a pin nearby. I shall take care to tighten the paperclip. I could also use a hairclip, or the clip fastener for plastic bags.  1 You do a double knot from both directions, with the right and left threads.  2 But pull the knot down over a toothpick or awl or even a fork tine.  3 Secure with glue. What is jewelry glue? (Be sure not to glue your fingertips together!) 4 Leave the glue for 24 hours. 5 Hide the knot under a bead. So it is both hidden and extra secure. They say two times in this video. I would say twice. Another lady has a no glue method. She recommends doubling a thinner thread. 5. Jewelry glue or jeweler's glue does not degrade with water or heat. Here are my restored ear-rings.  For years I have had jewellery sitting around with missing stones. Now is the time to get them all restored. I started with an easy one. I had the stone. the stone was large so easy to handle and stick. My husband stuck it down with Loctite glue.  He held it in place with Sellotape. That is a UK brand of clear sticky tape.  I was afraid. I asked him,  'When we pull off the sticky tape, wo't the stone come off with it?' He replied, 'No.' He told me to leave the glue 24 hours to dry out and set. This is how the broken ear-ring started, ear ring with empty bowl for the stuck on gemstone. Photos by Angela Lansbury.    Lime, olive and turquoise espadrilles. Photo by Angela Lansbury. At first I was delighted to find these forgotten shoes hidden in a shoe box at the back of the bedroom\s built-in wardrobe. (Americans say closet.) Green Colours We disagreed about the correct way to describe the colour. I called the velvet feel, suede effect uppers of the shoes - 'lime'. My husband said they were pistachio. He said a lime on a tree is a dark green.  These shoes heel covering at the side don't have the rope effect which creates a beach and holiday feel. On the other hand the shiny synthetic look goes well with after dinner and evening wear. So far, so good. However, my joy did not last long. Gorgeous shoes.
