Pleats Another feature of the Alternatives blouse, harder to copy, is the small pleats.  Pleat Names I looked up pleats. I wanted to know the names. I had heard of box pleats. And kick pleats at the back hem of skirts. I think these tiny pleats are called knife pleats. Wikihow shows how you sew various pleats. Alternatives label mystery The word Alternatives brings up many websites about alternative clothes, in the singular, and the word label brings up label makers. So I cannot find the manufacturer. I recently discovered that a number like an ISBN for books identifies the manufacturer RN Registered Identification Number (and the specific design),  something required by law in the USA, but you need the washing instruction label which is sometimes cut off of lost. Neck warmer and blouse. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. I put  this neck warmer over the blouse. But it did not match the jumper. It matched the blouse. It hid the pretty collar. The neck of the blouse was gaping.  I pulled up the neck warmer. It raised the collar. It filled the gap. That moved the collar up to hide my craggy neck. The outfit looked neater because the neck warmer is hidden. You could do this with neck warmers, like short tubes. Of scarves. Use the neck warming  device on top of the blouse but under the collar.  I had lots of shirts which my husband no longer wanted. he thought the collars and cuffs were stained. I thought I could cure them with a hot wash. I saved it for several reasons.  1 I wanted a pointed collar to look more businesslike on Zoom in a meeting. 2 I wanted sleeves to look more businesslike when wearing a caftan. 3 I wanted covered arms against insects such as mosquitos. 4 I wanted a shirt which could be washed out daily, and would dry quickly. You can put the collar in bleach for four hours or more.Or cut off the collar. Or reverse it. The cuffs can be cut off. I simple seamed them up, hand sewing over the raw edge The shirt sleeve was a little too long. So I folded it back. . Caftan You can buy caftans online, made in Indonesia, or India.   Orange collar adds colour. Photo by Angela Lansbury. I was looking for something warm to wear in London. The clothes I wear in London are different to what I wear in Singapore. I started with a black knitted cardigan which had two long collar tails, which I looped into a tie. Underneath I wore a warm, white jumper.  I needed neck interest for appearing in photos and on Zoom at meetings of Toastmasters International. In London, UK, Harrovians club meets online on a Monday, in person at a church on another Monday. So I added the orange blouse. Just the collar showed. I did not need more. That was fine. The collar added colour, warm colour, vivid, transforming me from dull to vivacious, and framed my face. As a contestant I was placed in the front row. If you are speaking on stage it is convenient to be at the end of the row and near the front and near the central aisle so you can get out in a hurry. Red makes me visible.The shoes, the top and the lipstick are all matching. Pin-on Microphones The organizers arranged for us to all practise pinning on the microphones at the right height and checking that they worked.   On previous occasions, at contests, there had been delays to the event and stress to the contestants and confusion about the timing of the speeches, and whether to re-start. Why? Because the battery had died or the contestant forgot to turn on the microphone. On the other hand, to look businesslike on Zoom you might prefer plain white with a pointed collar. If you are travelling, having two collars enables you to change your look from businesslike for daytime meetings to pretty for the evening.
