Summer Sunshine Yellow. Outfit/post 362

Image
Summer sunshine yellow. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. Summer sunshine yellow. The yellow and green on the white tee-shirt match the yellow trousers. The black bag and brown shoes are hardly noticed. The black bag does have brown handles.  The eye-catching yellow effect was seen by me from some distance away. The pale brown shoes go with, echo, the wearer's pale brown hair. Top to toe. The perfect colour combination for a sunny summer day. You could wear yellow trousers with a white top for a colour block effect. But the yellow flowers creates a more delicate look. More subtle. More matching. Black top dress with pockets. Label Moyabo, my second bargain dress with pockets, post and outfit number 361

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing her second Moyabo dress with pockets. Photo by Trevor Sharot. I loved my previous Moyabo dress. I had searched for a dress with pockets. I was hungry for pockets, after a red dress from Shein left me anxiously waving my two hands around my waist, hunting for non-existent pockets, like two bereaved mothers. The first Moyabo dress I bought had a navy blue top, and a flared skirt printed with white flowers, with pale brown accents. Whilst I am not keen on pale brown, I matched the brown accents on the dress pattern with a pair of pale brown sandals. I also found a pair of sandals with blue. Angela Lansbury wearing her first Moyabo dress with lantern sleeves and larger flowers pattern. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Copyright. I loved the lantern sleeves. The elastic at the wrist kept the sleeves neat. Also the handy elasticated cuffs kept well out of the way when washing up dishes, washing your hands, doing anything. I wore the dress most days on holiday. When I got...

Yellow Tour de France Tee-Shirt Post 354

Image
My Australian friend wore an eye-catching yellow Tour de France tee-shirt. It was not an event they attended. They just liked the colour yellow. Bright and cheerful. I found several offers online of yellow Tour de France tee-shirts. Different sizes. Also other colours. The tour de France started as a men's bike ride in France. A women's bike race was added. The race was held in other countries. Useful Websites https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tour_de_France One of many offers https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/334425839832?chn=ps&norover=1&mkevt=1&mkrid=710-153316-527457- US dollars 15.59.  Please share links to your favourite posts.

How to make a dress fabric belt diy from discarded tote bag handles and a handsewn belt 'button' holes in a caftan, dress of the day 546

Image
DIY belt for a caftan. Photo by Angela Lansbury.  This belt is made from the handles of tote bags, removed from paper tote bags either torn and discarded or no longer needed. Usually you can unthread the end of the handle. You only need to disentangle one end of the handle and you can usually pull the other one out. Occasionally I cut the bag in order to remove the handles.  If you want to preserve a bag handle in the bag in order to carry the bag, you can thread one of the handles diagonally from one side to the other. In the dress, I first tie the two handles together at the ends with a slip knot. You could sew them or fix them with glue or nail varnish. You can tie the rope handle around your waist, if you have an hourglass figure, which I do. However, there is always the risk of the belt hanging lopsided or falling off in the street and being lost or dirty. So I made two slits for the belt with the edges sewn like button holes. The handle is a soft gold coloured twi...

Ebay Laundry bag - My colour complaint - I am seeing red! Post 455.

Image
You have seen many items I have bought on ebay which were bargains, a pleasant surprise, a great success. Occasionally things go wrong. 1 Random Colours I have a hanging laundry basket on two parallel wooden bars and the fabric is fraying and I need a new one. My friend Lynda has a lovely one with a blue edge. I searched all over the internet and on eBay I saw a red edged wall-hanging laundry bag. I ordered it. I thought it would be white linen with a red fabric edge. 2 Fabric When it arrived it was brown plastic, with a yellow edge. The material was not clear. Not cotton, which I could dye.  Oxford cloth It is described as Oxford cloth. I looked that up. It is shirt material, woven in out, basket weave says WIKI, rather than knitted, but waterproof. I think it should be soft, not noisy like a plastic bag. Not soft. A noisy plastic. When I re-read the listing carefully, I saw that other pictures showed the yellow item. The description was red, yellow.  I assumed that I would be...

Blue Eyelet Top Bought In a Bundle 428. How To Make DIY Belt Loops From Ribbon. 428b

Image
Buying Bundles I bought the yellow eyelet top  (in the previous post) on eBay as part of a bundle of three tops. A bundle is a group of items from the same seller. Not the same as a matching set which has the same colours and fabrics.  The other items included a blue Peaclocks label, also size 16, which was the key item which made me buy.  The blue top has eyelets all over, which show at the neck, but no fancy hem.  The third top included in the bundle is a white - I already have white tops. A bonus. Not needed. But a bonus. The white is by George and has a plain neck - but a fancy hem which would show when I am standing, or walking, when worn over and against a darker coloured skirt.    Size 16 Size sixteen is large. Large sizes are loose on me.  Why wear a belt? The belt is not holding the garment up (as on trousers and skirts). A belt on a dress or top can draw in the waist. I have to wear a belt to bring in the waist and look slimmer. The slimline ...

A closer eye on eyelet dresses (Broderie anglaise) to buy and tops to buy, post 380b

Image
Some of these apparent dresses are just long tops. That is okay, if you want to wear them over long skirts of a dark colour. Look at the sizing charts to see the length. Some of them are not eyelet all the way around but have a plain white back. Admittedly the sleeves show the eyelet fabric all the way around. On March 17th I wrote about my friend's red eyelet dress from Thailand, which I admired. A week or two we met again and she was wearing a white eyelet dress. This time she said she had bought it in Singapore and it was a Singapore brand and she would take me to the shop which sold it, The Stage Walk in Junction 8 at Bishan.  Selfie photo by Angela Lansbury. Daffodil Yellow for the Welsh St David's Day. Dress 344.

Image
March 1st every year is St David's Day in Wales. Not yet a national holiday but lots of people voted for it to be a national holiday, even if they had to sacrifice a different day to replace it by St David's Day. The colour is yellow, for the yellow of the Daffodil.  However, the flag of Wales is green, and white with a red dragon.  This was the flag of the first Tudor King, Henry VII, who preceded the more famous Henry VIII of the 6 wives. I wore yellow, green, white and red, mostly yellow and green. I hunted all over the web for yellow, then decided to check my own wardrobe.  Yellow Wrap 'Dress' I had a yellow wrap dressing gown. I never wear it because it is too long. Time to stop leaving it hanging up doing nothing. Time to start thinking, live every day as if it were your last.  I am also getting more ruthless about taking out the scissors and altering clothes to fit whatever my size is now. I could not go out in the garment. It would get dirty, and trip m...

How to convert shorts into a skirt - lessons learned. Dress of the day 332.

Image
I must confess this project did not go as well as I had hoped. First the good news. The project started well. Slitting the seams was straight forward. Some ends of the stitching were tough, well sewn. I had to admire the manufacturer for sewing down such thick fabric.  What size of sewing needle were they using! An industrial machine, no doubt. The thread and seams were very secure at the knee and crotch. No fear of your shorts pulling apart and sliding down.  Waist Size More good news. Despite the shorts being too tight for my husband, the waist fitted me perfectly, no need to tighten nor loosen it, nor move the pretty button.  Horizontal Patterns I rotated the resulting skirt, as you can see in this picture, to get the gaps at the sides instead of the back and the front. However, the result is that the pattern is slightly slanted.  I asked my husband what he thought. To my surprise he shrugged and said, "Nobody but you would notice (that the pattern wasn't matching...
