The Birkin Bag from Hermes - colourful, customisd, beautiful, but expensive

Image
Jane Birkin who died in July 2023 was known for her erotic song, Je T'aime. The man she sang with was a singer-songwriter and although they never married, they were close all the time they were together and after she married somebody else. She is also known for the Birkin bag by Hermes. She was sitting next to the VIP from Hermes on a plane when her basket fell down, scattering the contents! She apologized and said she could not find a suitable leather bag for her travels.  He sketched out a possible design of a bag on the back of the airline sickness bag, with her imput. He produced it, and named it the Birkin bag. The bag became sought after by celebrities. The price went up, so it was also bought as an investment. Go to the Wikipedia entry and you will be astonished at the number of films, (movies), and TV shows which featured this bag.  It is outside my price range, but I am interested to see what all the fuss is about. It can be ordered in an assortment of leather t...

Image
Gladiator sandals in gold. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Evening Shoes Needed I need new shoes. Smart evening shoes. Gold evening shoes.  Why? Because my old fancy gold shoes have broken. They were Cushion-Walk. Model number FZ975.. Size UK 4E, EU 37, US size 6. Broken heel on Cushion-walk gold sandal. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. What could replace such pretty sandals! Gold sandals from Cushion-walk. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. Do I need to buy new shoes? No. I just gave a speech on shop in your spare room. Shop in your own cupboards. Save space. Save time. Save clutter. Save the planet from those piles of unwanted goods which are sent to Africa.  Now the empty spaces are full. The piles of clothes and shoes and accessories are catching fire, polluting the air, sending out methane gas, polluting the water with dye from new clothes, with dirt from stained and old unwashed clothes. Filling up land with piles of rubbish. The land could instead be used for foo...

How to Restore an old Belt - Jacques Vert Leather belt with a big, bold buckle. Outfit 444.

Image
The restored pink belt with the bold buckle. Photo by Angela Lansbury The pink Jacques Vert belt before restoration. Photo by Angela Lansbury.  The Caftan Needs A Belt I put on a caftan. It was too loose. Untidy. Firstly, it needed to be pulled in at the waist. Secondly, the caftan was too long. In danger of tripping me up. Looks like I am in a harem. Might get dirty around the hem from dragging on the ground. I thought: 'Why not cut if off and use the strip to make a hair band or belt?' Hm. I decided that I won't cut if off because sometimes I want a longer dress. The hem can hide socks or non matching shoes or sandals. The longer length might protect me from insects landing on my legs, ankles, feet. I can wrap it round my ankles to give me physical or psychological protection. I admit that it's a pity not to cut off the hem because my reluctance means I lose the opportunity to have a matching belt. But it's quicker just to find an existing belt. I wondered, 'D...

How to Upcycle Shorts, Playsuits and T-shirts: Dress of the day 231.Blues To Banish Blues.

Image
Angela Lansbury photographed by Trevor Sharot. Dyed T-Shirt The tee-shirt was white at the top with two horizontal bands of blue. The paler blue is across the waist The darker blue is from the top of the hip to the hip hem. The white turned a creamy colour., the way pillowcases do. I loved the triple bands so much that I dyed the white top a pale blue. The modern technical term if you are doing a web search is colour block. The brand is Massimo Dutti, cotton, made in Portugal. The cotton is thin and lightweight, comfortable, XS. Blue Apron Front From Playsuit The fabric looks like cotton. No label. I must have bought it in a sale becuase it was cheap and I liked the fabric. No way would I wear a playsuit with a bare back. I love the colours. The all over vibrant royal blue, which matches my eyes, and the clean, fresh white, with the curves of the bird wings, and the touches of vibrant red. I simple slit the crotch. That left me with the apron top. The apron skirt was just right t...
