Royal Blue Tee-shirt With A Joke from Ivigneri Winery, near Etna in Sicily. Dress of the Day 803 from Angela Lansbury.

Image
I love the colour of this tee-shirt. Royal blue. Also the humorous message. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright.   At the Island Wines Summit in Tenerife, the Canary Islands, I saw several dormant and active volcanoes. I met a young man from, Italy, second generation of a vineyard family. He had the word ETNA tattooed on his wrist. I asked him, 'is it an active volcano?' ''Yes.' I gasped, 'Aren't you afraid of an active volcano?' He shook his head and smiled. 'No, I am not afraid of an active volcano. I'm more afraid of people.' His family winery is in my husband's book about island wines, Isle Drink, by Trevor Sharot. Which you can buy online from Amazon. His name is Andrea Foti, and the winery is I Vigneri. Website  www.ivigneri.it He is one of the up and coming new generation of winemakers. He was a panellist who spoke at the conference. He gave me a tee-shirt in lovely blue. The message is minus arrogante, Italian for arrogance, meani...

Disintegrating Soles On Sandals - Caused By Age or heat? Dress of the Day 802 from Angela Lansbury.

Image
My shoe soles melted in the heat. Black sticky mess on the floor. June in London 2026 has a heatwave, predicted to last long or get worse. With global warming, is this bad news for shoes? But is it the heat? Or their age? Or a combination, mean ing that elderly shoes, like elderly people, are more vulnerable to heat?  This problem is not unique to Padders, one of my favourite brands of good value shoes, but a general problem I had had with several brands. I have had the same from Marks & Spencer shoes.  Once, when my shoes disintegrated, and I tried to return them, or at least register a complain about the composition of the sole, the staff asked me how long ago I had bought the footwear.  Buying New Shoes I also had a pair of shoes disintegrate although I had never worn them. I didn't wear them because they were a size too small, my feet are different sizes so one shoe was too small, and my weight and ankles had increased. I kept them lovingly because they wer...

Winery tee shirts from Veganorte, La Palma. Dress of the Day 793 from Angela Lansbury.

Image
I think I shall try on this one. I found it at a winery with chairs outside for lunch, on La Palma, in the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. We flew to Tenerife, hired a car, and took the ferry across to La Palma for a hiking holiday with a group who go every year. My husband and I visited several wineries. This one had wine, food, wine and food to buy, plus these irresistible tee-shirts. Perfect. Perfetto.  Angela Lansbury wearing her wine glasses tee-shirt. I tried on the other tee shirts, but a square pattern of thick paint did not fit well over a curvy chest. This tee shirt with the wine glasses looked and felt the best. So it was the one I bought. Just the thing for wine tastings, wine events, fine wine lunches, fine wine dinners.  These tee shirts cost about 13.5 euros at the winery which offers wine tastings or lunches of pate and toast.  On the internet you will find lots more similar from various suppliers. Or you can take a photo of yourself with your...

How to shorten a spagetti strap dress instantly. Dress of the Day 792 from Angela Lansbury.

Image
This dress was too long, likely to trip me up. Also the hem was catching on the Velcro (hook and close) of my shoes. And the neckline was low, showing the vest underneath. I wondered whether I could tie the spaghetti straps together behind my neck. With what? A shoe lace from my husband's hiking boots. I had no time to do anything. We were about to go down to a group dinner in a hotel. So I hoisted up the spaghetti straps, wondering about cutting them so I could tie them together. No need to do that. I simply tied them together in a double knot at the back. I worried that the knot would be too tight and inconveniently placed when it came to the time for me to undress. I reckoned my husband would be able to untie the knot for me. However, no need for that. I was able to pull the knot apart myself.  I had bought a couple of spaghetti strap dresses as sets with matching chiffon coats or plain colour matching bolero, from Temu and Shein. I really wanted more cover across the top...

Underwear from el99 La Palma. Dress of the Day 790 from Angela Lansbury.

Image
In La Palma in the Canary Islands I needed more underclothes in a hurry. I needed a supermarket which sold clothes or a large budget clothes department store chain. SPAR sold only food and cooking items. However, when I asked the assistant for local places selling clothes she suggested LiDl or  el 99. An opportunity to buy something new which would not break either the budget or the weight allowance for suitcases on Ryan Air. I had two quick options. Lidl or a new local supermarket. El99 was on the corner of the pedestrian precinct near the seafront beside the large reproduction of Christopher Columbus's ship, Maria. The shop opened at 4 pm. I looked for cotton underwear.
