Image
I admired this tote bag carried by my good friend, who goes my the name of Dearmcatcher. Her bag is the brand Kate Spade, New York. the bag is a clean cream colour, with a pattern of red and orange charries, so it can go with many colours. She said it was a very reasonable price. Strange. When I went online all the bags of this brand were around 100 sing dollars. One  see something you like at a reasonable price, buy it.

She thought she left it in a taxi. If you have the number of the taxi you can ask the taxi company. I always ask for a receipt. Then if I left anything behind I can call the taxi company.  If they say, 'we don't have it', you can then work down your list of places you could have lost it.  The driver might say he does not have it. Why not? It could have been picked up by a later cust

Tube skirt from Indonesia converted into a caftan, outfit 550

Angela Lansbury, wearing a caftan made from a converted tube skirt bought in Indonesia. Photo by Trevor Sharot. See also post 521, I picked this up off my sewing table where I had left it for further sewing and maybe cutting. I previously had safety pins across the top. this time I added two new features The Neck Slit I simply cut a vertical slit half way along the fabric neckline for the front of the neck. The main reason is that the horizontal line rubbed uncomfortably against my neck. I could prevent this happening by adding ribbon across the middle of the top of the fabric to make the horizontal line an inch or two lower. However, making a cut was an instant, quick solution. I used pinking sheers. Besides, I thought it added interest. It made the outfit look more like a shaped dress and less like two bits of oblong fabric. To keep the two cut pieces folded down, I could sew on two small shirt buttons, or two fancy buttons, in black, white, brown, red, blue or gold. The

Disney Gold, and a Golden Opportunity For Glamour, Dress 548

Image
Angela Lansbury in Mickey Mouse top, brown with gold lettering. Photo by Trevor Sharot. I was hunting for something else when I came across this top. I had folded it away in an unmarked box with a lift-off lid.  Why was it hidden away and not on a hanger with a matching or co-ordinating skirt? Because I had initially dismissed it. Disney. For a child. Not for a smart evening out. Not for an adult. Not serious.  Now I needed something new. My bedroom is overflowing with clothes. Before i buy anything new, I need to wear all the items I have. Or sell them. Or give them away. So, I looked at it with fresh eyes. Somewhere I must have something in brown or gold, at at least black, which could be worn with it. I tried it on. It fitted, The fabric was stretchy.  The gold was glamorous, so long as you were not close enough to read the lettering or see the whole pattern. I looked for gold shoes, evening shoes. I was in a hurry. I settled for silver with a glassy mock diamond. I looked for a s

Three-strand coloured necklace seen on the train. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Triple Necklace Shape This attractive necklace attracted my attention on the train. The wearer's dress is in plain gray which forms a neutral background, The necklace could be hidden behind the dress neck. However, is shown here hanging below to dress neckline to echo the oval and enhance the curve. It is a triple necklace, so we have four ovals, one of the dress neck and three of the necklace, very satisfying. Varied Warm And Contrasting Cool Colours Look closely at the colours. The orange nearest the neck and face is the warm colour. Contrasted with cool green. In between is the gold which matched the watch strap, jewellery and ring and makes it suitable for understated evening wear, as well as fun daytime wear. Asking A Stranger For Their Sources I hesitated to ask the wearer where she got it. Then, when she gathered up the handle of her bag to get off the train, I panicked. I was going to lose my chan

Dress of the Day in Silver, Speckled Gray, 545

Image
I never wear gray. Isn't it the world's least favourite colour? So why did I wear gray today? I rescued a gray scarf from the dump. Americans call it dumpster diving. It was a long thing bedraggled looking gray scarf. The label is The Venetian Macau. I washed it and unfolded it. It was large.  Large enough to make and over the head shift dress.  I looked on my rail and there was a gray and white skirt, a rescue from a pair of trousers, slit up the centre seam to make a skirt. I now had an outfit. I cut the scarf across the neck using pinking shears. The scarf  was semi-see-though. I added my tote bag with cats, which cost 4 Singapore dollars in Daiso. I tried two different hats. The scarf has speckles of silver on one side. You can wear the plain gray for daytime, the silver speckled side at night. I have bought a set of fabric dye in colours. But not silver nor gold. I have also used gold felt tip pen and gold speckles on a broken porcelain lamp base. Now I am wondering if I

two piece, co-ord, matching, broderie anglaise, or coat and dress, with ducks, duck egg blue, butterflies, straw hats and more. Post 541

Image
I started looking at duck bags, given away at a stall selling food, with a minimum spend. Hec has white ones one day, yellow ones another day. A queue at a food stall usually attracts others, either curious to see what you are selling, or keen to join the line, assuming that it means the staff is good, or better than the others. In addition to people standing waiting for orders and free bags, he got lots of publicity.  He was good enough to tell disappointed customers that they could buy duck bags online. So I went online to look. I found tee shirt patterns and bags, and jewellery, featuring ducks, cats, butterflies and elephants. (My previous posts have featured various animals patterns, dogs, horses, flowers, leaves, fish, seashores, pineapples, pine trees, coconuts.  The stall holder had only 30 of them. I usually go out in red or white or black clothes with a red or white or black jacket to look swish, literally swish and swing.  I started my search online for matching outfits with
