To buy a white dickey, dicky or false or detachable collar

Image
In order to get a supplier for a white dickey, I typed in ebay and white dickey. Up came one at US S10.95, link below. From seller jsbay88. I know you can get them at half that price if you want to spend time searching. The cheaper ones might be thinner fabric, or they could be identical.  You might want to buy one from each supplier each, maybe both white, or one white and one black, or one with a pointy collar and one with a round collar, or have two identical styles so one can be washed and drying whilst the other is ready to wear next day. That way you compare the quality. Re-order from the more expensive supplier if it is a better product. Re-order from the other one if not. Or re-order from whoever supplies fastest if you are in a hurry. Do you need a buttonhole or tab? Here's the solution!

Image
Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. I was looking around for a piece of ribbon to make into a tab to fasten a button. Then my eye fell on this hair elastic.  You see these all the time. Supermarkets sell them in sets of a dozen or more. People drop them in the dirt.  If you drop your own, retrieve it with a hand in a plastic or washable or disposable glove and a plastic or washable or disposable bag and later in a basin or toilet (washroom to Americans) wash your hands and the bag and the elastic. Elastic and Ribbon Storage When the elastic is clean and dry you can store it with your re-used, washed and dried glass jar from jams and chutneys or pickles. I store  small pieces of ribbon and elastic which looked too small to be of use. Are they too short to tie into a bow? They may be but just right for rolling up, braiding or sewing at both ends to make a catcher for a button. Elastic is wonderful because it will stretch over any size of button. You could sew it acr...

Dry clean or hand wash? (Picture of ''dress' - outfit - 170, repeated.)

Image
A red satin effect skirt, brand label Platinum. The washing label says the fabric is polyester with an acetate lining. They recommend dry cleaning.  Why do they recomment dry cleaning, especially if they say the garment could be hand washed at 30 degrees? Or cold water? One reason is that the garment is lined and the lining fabric is different. When the garment has two fabrics they might shrink different amounts. The result is puckering along the seams, or hanging oddly, with folds, or lop-sided. I have more than two reasons for not wanting to dry clean clohtes. 1 Dry cleaning is expensive. 2 I have to take time off from writing to deliver and collect my clothes. 3 I might forget, or lose the ticket. 4 The shop could lose my garment, spoil it, or go out of business. 5 Dry cleaning could shorten the life of the garment or change its colour. If you cannot be bothered to take clothes to be dry cleaned, if you travel a lot, you could have your garment washed or dry cleaned in a ...
