Do you need a buttonhole or tab? Here's the solution!

I was looking around for a piece of ribbon to make into a tab to fasten a button. Then my eye fell on this hair elastic. 

You see these all the time. Supermarkets sell them in sets of a dozen or more. People drop them in the dirt. 

If you drop your own, retrieve it with a hand in a plastic or washable or disposable glove and a plastic or washable or disposable bag and later in a basin or toilet (washroom to Americans) wash your hands and the bag and the elastic.

Elastic and Ribbon Storage
When the elastic is clean and dry you can store it with your re-used, washed and dried glass jar from jams and chutneys or pickles. I store  small pieces of ribbon and elastic which looked too small to be of use. Are they too short to tie into a bow? They may be but just right for rolling up, braiding or sewing at both ends to make a catcher for a button.

Elastic is wonderful because it will stretch over any size of button. You could sew it across the middle to reduce the size if you are afraid that cutting it would let the covering unravel. Too big? Then twist the elastic around the button shank.

Stripey Red & White Socks, thigh high, and tights - outfit 679 by Angela Lansbury

  I bought a pair of knee high red and white stripe socks in St Luke's charity shop. At one pound or under, you can't lose much. (Their charity fundraising shops are in NW London in Hatch End, Harrow Weald and elsewhere.) Why did I buy the long socks, in hard to match, garish, childish, stripes - after hesitation and consideration? The Advantages Of Long Socks The  length was attractive, at this time of year. I often need long socks under a midi skirt. For warmth in winter. And not to show bit of bare legs above socks. To co-ordinate colours. Advantages and Disadvantages of Red and White Stripes I like red. It's fun. White can show dirt quickly.  Red and white is a bit restrictive. It will clash with patterns, only go with plain reds and whites. But under a table at dinner or on Zoom nobody else will notice. Nor will I. I will only feel them.
