The Gant company started many moons ago, 1949 to be exact, in the USA by a Bernard Gantmacher, a Jewish immigrant from the Ukraine. He had started making shirts for other companies. After the end of WW his two sons persuaded him to start their own brand of shirts. Macher means maker, and gant, not French for glove but German or Yiddish for whole. His son inherited and shortened the name to Gant. Eventually the company was bought up, changed hands several times, and now has its headquarters in Sweden.   I went onto the John Lewis website searching for leopard print or animal print items from the label KAFFE. I instantly found two long skirts, one at about fifty pounds. Another at sixty pounds. Plus an animal print belt for 28 pounds. 84 items with the KAFFE label. Also, an alternative or extra skirt or two in peoplard print in the sale. That's better priced if you are on a budget or love a bargain. You could choose the short skirt style animal print, or a brown animal print which I would call tiger, curved stripes, rather than ovals or leopard spots. Another option is the black and white animal print which co-ordinates well with your other black or white jackets, tops and accessories such as belts, bags, shoes and hats and tote bags, ear rings and jewellery.  Leopard skin pattern skirt. My new friend was wearing this leopard pattern pleated skirt. She could not remember where she bought it. But she had bought it recently from either John Lewis or Marks & Spencer's. So I asked her, "Could we check the label at the back of the waist, or the washing label in the side seam?" She said yes, so I looked at the waist label. The label said KAFFE. I was none the wiser. But her friend immediately declared, "That's John Lewis!" I then found the washing label. Sure enough, it said John Lewis. I thought that maybe John Lewis had between two and six labels.  I looked them up and was astonished at the large number of labels they stock and list. I didn't think  I would like the pattern, but it feels very soft. It is 95% polyester. I have called it animal print because I get confused beween leopard and tiger, especially if the pattern is a bit abstract. Usually, tiger pattern is stripey, leopard pattern is spots. You might recall the phrase, a leopard cannot change its spots. Style As for the style, it has no buttons. Just a fold across.  You can use a belt. But that makes it look bulky. Adding Fastening It is warm and attractive, almost seductive, if you hold the collar together or folded over slightly. To keep it done up attractively, wtihout having to hold it, I am considering adding some kind of closure at the neck. I would like something small and inconspicous, such as a snap or hook and eye. I have a lot of broderie anglaise for summer, so I hope that hat's colour will either co-ordinate or contast. The label is John Lewis age 6-8. I was considering giving it to my grand-daughter later. Meanwhile, I am on the small size so it fits me.  But I shall want to add a ribbon to secure it, either tied under my chin or at the back, or perhaps a piece of hat elastic. I add ribbon to most hats with and without brims, to stop the hat blowing off in the wind, or falling off as I look down.   It cost one pound sterling from St Luke's charity shop in Hatch End, one of several such shops in North West London. They usually have one rummage basket of adults clothes which have not sold and are reduced after a certain number of days. A separate box has children's items. I love to buy and bag a bargain.
