Winter Warmth - from layering A long winter jacket or coat with a hood is practical for concealing clothes underneath. I opened the front door, was overwhelmed by the cold, and went back inside to add extra layers. I did this in winter in London, England, in February, for extra warmth. Go into a pub with signs over the doorway to enjoy green drinks, green posters and to be surrounded by staff and customers wearing gree.  Some pubs sell green hats. Others give Guinness hats for free to all buyers of Guinness or all paying customers. Others have quizzes and give hats as prizes.  Online you can buy tee shirts and whole outfits in green with mottoes. Also spectacles and masks with shamrocks (three leaf clovers, or lucky four leaf clovers.  The word shamrock is Irish for little clover. Where can you wear and share? I was looking at the hats worn by Chassids, a minority sect of Jews. They were their large hats on the Sabbath and VIPs wear them. The hats are from northenr cold countries from the era when it snowed in winter and you had no central heating. It was the style worn by the non Jewish nobility.  I went online and discovered that the hats are made from fox fur. We have a fox in our gardne in London, in fact foxes are all over London, nowadays, now that fox hunting is either banned or unpopular. I wondered how long a fox lives. only four to five years. That means that during your lifetime of 80 years, several generations of pairs of foxes have lived in your garden or neighbourhood.  On Quora there is a great debate on this. I doubt whether destorying fur and ivory benefits anybody. It simply makes the value, the price, or rare items increase, so those who kill to get tusks and fur to sell have more incentive. I am in favour of wearing fake fur if it is a warm substitute.  But ...

See also post 521, I picked this up off my sewing table where I had left it for further sewing and maybe cutting. I previously had safety pins across the top. this time I added two new features The Neck Slit I simply cut a vertical slit half way along the fabric neckline for the front of the neck. The main reason is that the horizontal line rubbed uncomfortably against my neck. I could prevent this happening by adding ribbon across the middle of the top of the fabric to make the horizontal line an inch or two lower. However, making a cut was an instant, quick solution. I used pinking sheers. Besides, I thought it added interest. It made the outfit look more like a shaped dress and less like two bits of oblong fabric. Because it was clean and pristine. Because it was red. Because it had two handy rollers and an A hanging strap.  I wanted to save the money used to clear litter, and the space given to discarded items which clutter the earth and endanger animals. I was sorry for all the people who had worked to make the work of art. Above all the person who designed it, thinking their creation had created pleasure and would last forever. Neck Warmer The brand is from Patra, from the UK, not the Patra in the USA. These neck warmers are available in several colours. Light. Handy cover-up for a low neck. Mostly silk so it is soft, and not bulky. Skirt The red skirt is labelled Anthony Evenings. This seems to be a brand of Anthony Sicari. I bought it second hand on either Ebay or Etsy from the USA. It is part of a suit, size 22.   It was much too large for me, so I tightened the skirt with large safety pins. I meant to sew it, but never got around to it. I would be afraid that dog lovers would approach me and ask, 'Do you have a dog?' When I admitted that I didn't, they might lose interest, or feel that I was misleading them, pretending to be an animal lover when I was not.  (My excuse being that I travel too much to own pets.) The conversation might simply go nowhere, or a potentially friendly conversation might come to a halt. However, my sheep pictures with the sheep apron is one of my favourites.  My black cowgirl hat was crushed in the mail. I was crushed - metaphorically.  I tried to unbend the circular wire edge. It was completely mis-shapen. I could not straighten it. The dome was creased. I thought of wetting it. Then wearing it. I would get black dye all over my blonde hair.  Put it on top of another black hat.   Angela Lansbury I made this in Reddit. I saved it and pasted it into Facebook.  A friend asked me: How do you create the cartoon? I replied: You go into Reddit. They offer you an optional avatar (cartoon) as an alternative to a profile photo. You select one from each set of choices.  The choices include Eye colour.  Hair colour.  Hat.  Object in hand.  I chose blue eyes, blonde hair, red clothes, a book in my hand. Reddit is a site where you can share news items or pictures. Other people comment and vote.  The system for creating the avatar is simple and free. Not a free trial. Free. I then went looking for a better avatar, because I wanted longer blonde hair and a fringe, and even to animate it. That will be my next venture. If and when I succeed, I shall write another post. Two for the price of one.  Matching Scarf The matching scarf has fringes on the short ends. I used the scarf as a belt to shorten the dress. The dress seemed too long. I needed it to be shorter on public transport and when walking to be sure of not tripping over. I also wanted to avoid getting the hem dirty.  The scarf pattern matches only one side of the dress, although the colour matches both sides. The scarf matches this side which is my favourite.  If I were making a reversible dress, I would make a reversible scarf from the same two dress fabrics sewn back to back. Would that make it too heavy? I can try out this idea, by pinning together two similar scarves and check the effect. I used to look on eBay for reversible dresses. And other discarded costume jewellery. Given Covid-19, I had to wash them before wearing them. Cheap jewellery. Not gold or silver. Not valuable or fancy. But to me an orange and red necklace, any piece of jewellery. provides a new look, a new inspiration. I found an orange top which I had worn before and was plain. It needed something to enhance the ordinary neckline. I tried on all the necklaces until I matched a necklace.  The orange top looked too loose. So I added a scarf as a tie belt to emphasize my waist. What about a skirt? Nothing too heavy with a light top, which was almost sleeveless. I added a lightweight black long slip.  Matching Jacket?
