The Orange Dress and Matching Jacket. Dress of the Day 818 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I have several of these sets of dresses and jacket. I wore them in the evening to dinner in hotels on holiday. Orange Dress and Jacket I bought this on E-bay. The label says Made In China, but not the manufacturer not the retail supplier.  Shein has a huge selection of dress and jacket sets. So does Temu. I found a few on ebay. The size is XXL 95% polyester and 5% elastane, the usual mixture for a synthetic fabric with some stretch.. The Orange Necklace The orange necklace was bought in the Canary Islands, on Tenerife, at Bodegas Monje, which has a large shop full of goodies. Pink, Parigi Dress & Jacket. Too Small - Solutions. Dress of the Day 817 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I was looking for dress and jacket sets on Ebay. (As well as Temu and Shein.) I ended up with three outfits like the ones I already had from Temu and Shein. Plus a Parigi pair. The Parigi Name The Parigi label on the inside neck of the jacket says Florence, New York, London. The name Parigi is Italian for Paris. It is a family name indicating that the ancestor originally came from Paris. Parigi - Polyester - Small Part Silk Satin The label said 100% polyester. A designer label, and polyester? Well, Jacques Vert and Anthony Sicari use synthetic fabrics, which don't crease, so they look smart, enhanced by heady colours, elaborate embellishments or embroidery, soft edged necklines, fancy fabric-covered buttons. The opposite surprise is the 100% silk satin trim. Satin is silky one side and smooth the other side. The edging to the top of the dress has the silk satin trim, and the pendant design in the middle of the neckline. The Perfect Pink Colour I bought that outfit for two reasons,...

Phase Eight Dress and Jacket - Delivered by Evri Driver Who Buys Bargain Clothes. Dress of the day 814 chosen by Angela Lansbury.

Image
Phase Eight Today I received my dress and matching jacket from an Evri delivery driver. I took it out to show it to her. She immediately recognized the label. Phase Eight. She said, 'They used to be from Debenhams'.  The Pink Dress Made in China. Feels very soft. Size 14.  The lining is acetate. The colour is deep pink.  It has a side zip. The zip is longer than the part which the manufacturer has allowed to open. The pattern is black and red flowers and leaves. Two shades of red, darker matt and lighter shiny. The skirt part is fold over like the top.  Unnervingly, the shoulders are just the very thin, delicate top layer without any lining. Will they eventually tear through? The more I look at it, the more I like it. What a pity I don't have the slim figure to do justice to it. Neve mind, it makes me feel happy. The Black Jacket With Pink Petal Edging The jacket has a hook and eye which holds it in place. So it covers the cleavage.  The main part is plain black...

Update on Indigo Moon Suppliers. Post 756 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I now have several Indigo Moon items. That does not stop me from looking for more. I am an addict. I want complete outfits.  I found lots of Indigo Moon clothes on Depop. A few on frockery. I got sidetracked by ads from Temu which does not have any Indigo Moon. I still find Ebay is my favourite for large numbers of Indigo Moon clothes listed together in one place.  Etsy also has some from various sellers. I am not the only person. Scallop edge Red Classic Woman Jacket. Post 718 on dressofthedayangela by Angela Lansbury

Image
I bought this on Ebay. I wanted a strong colour. Red. I already have a pale blue one which you see me wearing in a previous post.  Jacket Styles, cut and darts The blue jacket had bust darts. This red one has no darts. One Pocket The red one has a pocket. It is positioned too near the sleeve and half disappears under my arm.  Real and Fake Pockets I felt in the pocket to see if it was a real pocket, although I don't use a single pocket because it makes me look lopsided. However, it is psychologically positive to have a real pocket, not a fake. The pocket was real. However, the vertical seam under the arm had come apart. Very hard to fix. The lining is attached all the way around the hem, so you can't repair the pocket from underneath. Well, it was second hand. Probably the seller didn't even know. The Vertical Scallops I bought this jacket because I wanted scallops. I first saw scallops on an orange jacket which was beyond my budget. The orange was bright, attractive, a...

Indigo Moon Coats. Clothes With pockets. Dress of the day number 713 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
Indigo Moon coat with pockets worn by Angela Lansbury. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Edited (background cropped) by Angela Lansbury.  Indigo Moon Clothes Without And With Pockets  I love Indigo Moon clothes. The sequins. The fancy metal big buttons. No two alike. Individual. Despite being produced long ago, they are mostly in good condition. Some of them are flimsy without linings. I bought a dozen and none of them had pockets. Lots of jackets were available. Very few coats. No coats in my modest price range of under twenty pounds including postage of up to five pounds. Then I did a search for long coat or jacket with pockets. Up popped this one. Pockets! Indigo Moon Clothes Colours The coat was in dark green, almost black. Affordable. Not the bright colours I loved. Dismal green. Would I want to wear such a sombre colour? Would it suit me? Would it look right and co-ordinate with my other clothes? I took a chance. I ordered it.  Yes, the colour is dark, dull green.  Advan...

Indigo Moon - Extra small - how small is that? Outfit of the day 710 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
Small Size - Suppositions I have a size small red velvet Indigo Moon Jacket which I wear nearly every day. I love it.  The sleeves are slightly tight, will not go over anything thick underneath, but okay with a blouse. What about the XS offered? Would it be wearable? Size Success Angela Lansbury wearing XS jacket, label Indigo Moon. I ordered an Indigo Moon jacket in a pinky colour, size XS. I thought it might be too tight to wear. So I would have to slit the side seams, maybe insert a ribbon, or two widths of wide ribbon to hold it in place. That was not the problem. Summer Weight The jacket is summer weight, very light, unlined. I knew the garment was light before I opened the light package. It came packed in a folded black bin liner, taped up with wide sticky back tape, with its own transparent plastic bag underneath. It survived the rain. Did not go through the letterbox but sat on the doorstep, found when I opened the front door. The fabric is thin, flimsy and unsuitable...

Indigo Moon Tee-Shirt, In Pink outfit 636

Image
I bought this Indigo Moon tee shirt on ebay. The Ebay website has loads of Indigo Moon items. I love the bright colours, the sparkly sequins, shiny fabric pieces appliqued on, the teeny tubular beads,, the big , bold lozense shaped beans. The patterns are great. Swirls and curls. Leaves and petals. This one has a butterfly in the middle. It has short sleeves. It was sold as part of a two piece set, with an orange jacket. As the tee-shirt was not photographed separately, I was suspected it was not a matching colour. I was afriad it might just be an odd tee shirt of another brand, but was pleased that it was indeed Indigo Moon.

Indigo Moon Blue Top Dress 612

Image
See outfit 484. Blue Indigo Moon Top The blue top is one of several vintage outfits I bought on ebay, mostly odd jackets or tops. I spent a week bidding on several and waited to see which, if any, I won at reasonable prices. 3 XL so fewer bidding for it. The embroidery colours are pale pink, pale blue, white and black. The thick matt almost felt like fabric is mostly cotton,  with some polyester. The trim different.  Plus beads and sequins.  Iron on warm, it says. Then, don't iron. Reading carefully, I see it says don't iron on decoration. You would have to be very careful. Or place fabric over the decoration so your oscillating hand movements on the iron don't go fruther than intended. This time I am wearing the long top with a black skirt and white blouse. The White BHS Blouse White. Vintage. Eighties style bow at the neck. Shiny and elegant, so it goes with the glitter of the teeny sequins and teeny tubular white beads of the blue top. The plainness of the black...

Second clothes rail fixed in wardrobe Post 610

Image
Second rail installed half way down the wardrobe. Pliers to hold the screws in place.   Done. As the Americans say. In the UK we might say finished.  Well done! Now I have to add the clothes.  Finding and Choosing A Clothes Rail The first step was measuring.  I measured the width of my cupboard outside, then checked inside, looking at the existing rail.  I measured in both inches and centimeters. Adjustable Clothes Rails I wanted an adjustabe rail, in case my measurements were inaccurate, or the available rails were not the right length for my elderly built in wardrobe, which might not be a standard size. I searched online both Amazon and Ebay. I first wanted the sort of rail. you can insert and change height or remove. Instant result.  No Drilling However, I have a shower rail like that. When you add heavy clothes it tips to one side and eventually falls off. Chaos The deciding factor was the price. To my surprise the sort with nails was cheaper. What abou...

Indigo Moon - masses of marvellous vintage items - post 479

Image
I love my Indigo Moon jacket with the elaborate embroidery, curls and swirls, contrasting colours of embroidery against the background. I was not keen on brown, at first. Over the past week I have grown accustomed to it.  I have matched up thin brown silk blouses. They are delicate, too delicate for everyday wear when a thick cotton tee-shirt would be more practical. They would tear easily, or the seams could pull apart, or the fabric alongside the seams. But, back to Indigo Moon. Let's have a look online. Vast Choice Indigo Moon went out of production years ago. The good news is that I found loads of items from Indigo Moon. First, on Ebay. Then Etsy. Also elsewhere. They are gorgeous. Some of them are like my brown jacket in style. Not only the embrodi\ery. All slightly offset patterns, never absoutely symmetrical.  Only the overall shape is symmetrical. The jackets have mid size buttons down the front. Others are in the style of solid pull over tops. (I am separating t...

Angela with smiley face cushion Post 402

Image
Angela Lansbury with a Smiley face cushion. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. When you don't want to show what you are wearing, hide behind an amusing cushion.  I looked for the label on my favourite cushion, and speech propr. My grand-daughter also likes it.  The label said Puckator. They turned out to be a wholesaler, with a minimum seventy five pound spend. Great if you have a shop. Or even if you have a lot of parties, or want a huge number of identical gifts for Christmas for events. I still did not know where I had bought this cushion, retail. So I googled smiley face cushion. It immediately popped up as one of a series of face designs on round cushions, on Temu and ebay and other websites.  Then I found a version with a red Santa Christmas hat added. It was on ebay. Anthony Sicari Tunic top in black with brown and yellow - or a short dress? Dress of the day number 384. by Angela Lansbury

Image
Seller's ebay photo.  I ordered this from ebay. I usually go for the three-piece Anthony Sicari outfits.  Why go for three pieces matching? They make me look smart, elegant, co-ordinated, a top with wide shoulders, which was even more important when I was size 16, on a good day, in 2020, before I started slimming for health and safety during Covid,  I wroe it with  double closure sandals. Made in Hungary. Their colour is pale brown. How lon would it be on me? Not long enough for a dress. A flmsy skirt on a teenager could be that short. But not a warm, thick, autumn or winter gamrent. Angela Lansbury wearing an Anthony Sicari tunic top wih a dramatic V-shape neckline.. Selfie photo by Angela Lansbury. The necline is rather large for me. On the other hand, a dramaatic neckline draws attention to tbe wwearer from a distance, on stage. Also in a photo. Useful Websites ebay

Online second hand clothes opportunity to buy or sell 320

I was looking for silk suits, skirt suits, to show you wahat you could buy and wear if you fancied a skirt suit like the one from Patra shown in my prvious blog post. I googled Patra silk skirt and on about my fourth search up came a company which was new to me, Thrift plus. They have been going since 2017. How did I miss them! Instead of dealing with the individual seller, like on ebay, you deal with a warehouse, like the thrift shops such as Refash which I used to frequent in Singapore at Bukit Panjang and other places.  Check out their story and their products.  Useful Websites Buying clothes https://thrift.plus/our-story EBAY ebay.co..uk ebay.com ETSY etsy etsy.com vinted https://www.vinted.co.uk/ depop https://www.depop.com/gb/ Buying and Selling in Singapore https://refash.sg/ Selling clothes https://www.top10best-ecommerce-websitebuilders.co.uk/gb/online-store/ https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/bills/article-13292319/Ebay-cuts-fees-selling-clothes-cheaper-Vinted...

Natural or Synthetic - which lasts longest, creates less waste? Post 296

Image
Is Natural Best When Buying Fabrics? The comments often say, stop buying synthetics and go back to natural fibres.  Cotton must be good, surely? But moths are eating my cotton and wool clothes, even new ones. Do Moth Repellents Work? Perhaps they do. But not enough to save my clothes. I am using moth balls and insect sprays. However, the cotton clothes and wool get holes and stains faster than synthetics. But this is not my experience with accessories. Disintegrating Bags And Shoes When it comes to bags, belts and shoes, synthetics seem to diintegrate fast, even when you are not using the item. My shoes disintegrate. My Hotter shoes, fine on top, but the black thick soles crumbled. Synthetic Bags Disintegrate Yes, leather wallets disintegtae. Plastic folders holding bus passes and address cards will disintegrate.  Belts break into fissure and grow frayed around the edges. What are the solutions? Some companies offer discounts on new clothes if you return old ones which t...

Website buying hints on misleading low prices post number 263a by Angela Lansbury, author, traveller, fashionista

Image
I saw a a tee shirt I liked on Etsy.  There was a half price offer on Etsy. Reduced from about 12 to 6, dollars or pounds, it doesn't matter. the important thing is that when I went to checkout I was asked to choose the size. the smallest size was for a baby. When I went to choose my adult size, the price was double the full price which had been shown on Etsy. You need to watch the top price offered as well as the lowest. the system tells you the lowest price for all sizes.  The result was that I was disenchanted with that item, that seller, that website, and shopping online for the day.  I had wasted 20 minutes of my time and not found anything at my price which was 10 to 15 dollars for a a tee shirt or blouse or shirt and 20 for a dress. Ebay and Etsy This is how it seems to work currently on ebay and etsy in 2024 January. For a long time I was puzzled on Ebay, which was my favourite site. I thought that certain sellers had set out to lure me in and mislead me by ...
