Indigo Moon Clothes Without And With Pockets

I love Indigo Moon clothes. The sequins. The fancy metal big buttons. No two alike. Individual.

Despite being produced long ago, they are mostly in good condition.

Some of them are flimsy without linings. I bought a dozen and none of them had pockets.

Lots of jackets were available. Very few coats. No coats in my modest price range of under twenty pounds including postage of up to five pounds.

Then I did a search for long coat or jacket with pockets. Up popped this one. Pockets!

Indigo Moon Clothes Colours

The coat was in dark green, almost black. Affordable. Not the bright colours I loved. Dismal green. Would I want to wear such a sombre colour? Would it suit me? Would it look right and co-ordinate with my other clothes?

I took a chance. I ordered it.

Yes, the colour is dark, dull green.

Advantages of Pockets

But the pockets are like gloves made to fit my hands. Wonderful. I wore it straight away.
Why do I like pockets so much?

I remember reading about how pockets were invented. What do I remember? Imagine?

The History of Pockets - Recalled

Previously people carried small square or oblong bags to carry keys or a handkerchief. The bag had a drawstring top to stop things falling out, or maybe being stolen.

The bag was on a long string or more comfortable flat ribbon worn over the shoulder. It would hang down below the waist. It was on top or under one layer of clothing to look neat and for security.

Then somebody decided to attach it to the clothes. The hanging string was no longer necessary.

Different shapes of pockets were devised. Pockets on the outside, on the inside, at the front, higher, lower.

With new styles of fastening. New styles. Multi-pockets. Double pockets. Tiny pockets. Giant pockets. Pockets with flaps. Concealed pockets. Contrasting pockets.

I decided to put my hands in the pockets for the photo to show where the pockets were placed and to draw attention to them.

So pockets are for carrying objects. They originated as bags.

But I use pockets for warming hands in cold weather. Even sitting at a desk, I can rest my hands in pockets.

Kangaroo Pockets

For warming hands it is handy to have kangaroo pockets, also called pouch pockets. They are open at both sides, like a tunnel. If I were to DIY a kangaroo pocket, I would consider making it V shape, with a vertical line sewn down the centre.

Whatever their shape and size I love pockets. When standing, you can rest your hands in pockets.

Pockets To Conceal

You can hide your hands, concealing rings in public places. You can conceal wrinkles and age spots if you are old. Concealing plasters if you cut yourself. Conceal flaking nail polish.

Big Buttons

It would look neater to do up the buttons above the waist, rather than just the top button, or the top two or three, which showed a triangle of the white blouse at waist level.
Doing up the buttons risked pulling off the buttons, splitting seams, pulling the garment out of shape. Medium is still a tight fit. But I looked so good.

The cut of the coat is wonderful. It is loose enough on the sleeves, but tight enough on the body to make me look slim, not bulky. It also hangs well at the back. Some jackets make me look like a hunchback. Maybe this close fit pulls me upright. I look slimmer and taller. That's what a tailor made suit was supposed to do in the olden days before off the peg jackets and coat. The tailor measured the customer so the jacket concealed any lopsidedness of the wearer.

Medium Size In Indigo Moon Clothes

It is size M. Medium. The sleeves are long. They cover my wrists.  I have other jackets and tee-shirts from Indigo Moon in Small and even Extra Small.  I can wear them, with nothing underneath except a thin blouse.

The Medium is also a tight fit. With only a blouse underneath, nothing bulkier, I can do up the buttons down to the waist. As you can see, it gaps on the hips. I could wear it loose, showing the blouse. It looks tidier, hangs straighter, if I do up the top buttons. Maybe if I wear it like this a lot it will eventually stretch slightly. But I won't count on that happening.

Co-ordinating Clothes - Black Skirt

A jacket or blouse with black in it can be matched with a plain black skirt. The black skirt which I am wearing in the picture is thick fabric for winter weather. The skirt came from Comfy Clothes. Like Indigo Moon, also a vintage label. The skirt has two pockets. So my entire outfit of skirt and coat has four pockets.

Wonderful Website Search For Indigo Moon

A search for only the two words Indigo Moon brought up 2,600 results! I found many tee shirts with short and long sleeves, starting at low prices. If you want whole outfit some skirt suits. A few skirts. Many short and long jackets, lightweight unlined, and lined velour. A few coats. One or two dresses. Even a long sleeved swimsuit.
