Temu Turquoise, Red & Orange Dress & Jacket. Dress of the day 735 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing turquoise and red and orange dress and matching turquoise jacket from Temu, bought March 2026. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Why Buy A Matching Dress and Jacket Or Coat? I wanted another dress like the matching dress and jacket which I wore on holiday last year, 2025. I had ended up wearing it three nights in a row. It was so easy to just have a matching set, it looked neat and elegant. Dress from Shein / on Ebay. Worn in summer 2025. V neck dress. I needed another. I made a mistake I was looking for a lime, emerald or pistacchio green dress and jacket outfit on Temu.   The Advantage Of These Colours  Blue matches and compliments as well as compliments my eye colour, which is a murky blue. My eyes slightly reflect a bright blue, so they look bluer, better. Red clothes and accessories make me happy. They are cheerful. They co-ordinate with my lipstick and shoes and rouge.  The Spelling of Pistacchio? The Italian spelling is pistacchio. The English sp...

Turquoise and words for blue and green Outfit 566

Image
Blue? I bought a one-piece outfit, with the label Shein. The pattern is a mixture of turqoise and blue, or green.  Green? I remember reading that one language, or maybe some languages, more than one, have only one word for blue and green. Which ones. I googled it and got an A1 answer. Vietnamese, Thai and Korean  have one word for green and blue. So do the Pashtun people of Afghanistan and N.W. Pakistan.  Japanese has a word for blue and green but the word for blue is often used for colors that English speakers would consider green such as traffic lights and unripe fruit.

Turquoise chiffon matching overjacket, dress 267

Image
Turquoise chiffon long jacket with long dress supposedly in blue,  I was quite pleased with this. The fabric of the jacket is thin and see-through, chiffon gauze, not the same fabric as the dress. Of course this makes it lighter to post and pack. Nothing like as classy as my lace Ann Balon outfits which have a jacket of the same fabric as the dress. However, good enough for a summer or sumery warm evening. The colour or the dress is a swirl of colours so the jacket goes with all or none, depending on whether you are a glass half full or glass half empty person. I managed to match it up with two chiffon scarves with multi-colours. I am also plannint to pack a belt because the dress is long for somebody of my height, claiming to be over five foot.  (Next plain powder blue-grey with flower print bodice, In previous posts the orange and black with bolero or short jacket Posts 265 )

Dress 249 pale turquoise batik caftan

Image
Turquoise caftan. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. The Turquoise Caftan Colour & Pattern I considered this dress in pink or blue but the pale turquoise blue matched my hat. Another style was more shapely than the loose caftan and had an elastic waist and a tie at the v- neck. It was slightly more expensive. I decided the loose caftan was more comfortable in the heat.  The shop, in Katathani resort (Hotel), had two slightly different batik dresses in the turquoise. I initially rejected the one which had a dark splodge on the right of the V as I looked in the mirror. (This would appear to onlookers on the left.) I thought the pattern distracted from my face.  However, on second thoughts I decided that it was more interesting with the patch of darker colour than the all pale effect which was insipid. More importantly, I like  a slight pattern because otherwise when you get a stain of coffee or curry and try to remove it and with bleach get a paler patch o...

Pineapple pattern skirt, cut and converted from pants (trousers), outfit 591, with Clarks Sandals

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing pineapple pattern pyjama bottoms converted into a skirt, dress of the day 591. Photo by Trevor Sharot. I am carrying a cut pineapple, in a Denby Seville bowl. The Sandals The sandals are from Clarks. Size UK 6, Europe 39. The closure is Velcro or a similar touch and close over both the toes and across the instep. Colour a warm rusty brown. Platform heel. Curved insoles. The Headband The headband is a piece of orange ribbon, tied in a bow. It is inclined to slip off so if worn around the town it would need a hair clip or a cap or hat to hold it in place to look neat and prevent loss.  The Dress or Skirt from a converted pair of pyjama pants (the British say trousers)  I had a pair of thin pyjama bottoms with a small repeating pineapple pattern. The pineapples were tiny pale orange, each with the turquoise green tuft, on a white background. In between the pineapples are small dots of turquoise green. I cut up the inside leg seam. I could have used pinking...

Post 474 blue blouse, makes my blue eyes smile

Image
Photo by Angela Lansbury The Blue Blouse It's a short sleeved blouse. I used think that short-sleeved blouses looked cheap. Like both the buyer and manufacturer were short of money. Cheap uniforms for shop girls. However, the pattern is irresistible.  The weather is hot. The blue looks cool. The green is fresh and suggests shade. The blouse goes perfectly over the sleeveless turquoise dress. The dress is a mystery. No label. However, I have a similar  slip, or dress, turquoise, rough fabric, single thickness, with spaghetti straps, label Karen Millen England. Size 12. Made in China. The label says 100% silk, lining polyester.   Sandals with hook and loop closure Hotter. Style Easy Toe Nail Varnish White from Tesco Express in London. Reversible dress and jacket, dress 423, turquoise and leopard skin reversible dress, turquoise and black jacket

Image
Photo by Trevor Sharot. Reversible Dress This side is a diagonal print with two patterns. One is a blue background and a dusty orange and greyish white. The other pattern is a larger band of leopard skin pattern in black, charcoal, pale grey and greyish white. I have about ten reversible dresses. I used to sit looking for reversible dresses on eBay and bid on the ones that started at 99p.  Sources of Simple Style Reversible Dresses At first I bought the simple style like a tunic with a wide shoulder strap, from the major catalogues such as J D Williams. These are a firm weave and practical for travelling, less likely to snag or fray. At the end of the summer season the catalogue companies reduce them. Since they are stretchy and one size, they are likely to fit you around your girth. Smarter Dresses With Scarves Some are sold new for quite high prices.  Usually these have a fringed scarf. Extra frills. A designer label. I liked the ones with a matching scarf. Much more elegant...

Pink Eyelet (Broderie anglaise) outfit, dress of the day 422

Image
Photo by Trevor Sharot. The Pink Top Pink eyelet sleeveless top from eBay,  Papaya, size 8. Lined, Tiny pink button fastens small same fabric loop, in keyhole upright oval opening at back of neck. Diagonal bust darts. Made in India. Spare small button on the washing label. Plain fabric without eyelets at the back. The lining finishes a few inches above the scalloped hem to create the see through holes. Matalan Retail Ltd.  Wrap skirt I wore it with the corners tied in a double knot. The resulting diagonal draping at the side is a bit bulky and would stick out under a long jacket or thin, summer raincoat. Knotting works only on a thin fabric.  Pink tape ties (known as red tape) should be added with safety pins or a brooch, for a quick trip to the shops, later sewn on. From a pink scarf. Dark turquoise, silky feel, shiny satin-look edging. Made in India. 100% cotton. Label brand Boden. Possibly bought from a charity shop in the UK. Worn over a half slip in case it comes apa...

Anthony Sicari turquoise and navy top and scarf. Dress of the Day 269.

Image
Angela Lansbury in Anthony Sicari matching top and scarf.  Another Sicari outfit in blue and turquoise with beautiful bat wing sleeves. I have a top and matching scarf. Wide sleeves. Knitted cuffs. Shoulder pads. The label says Size 18. Made in the USA. Acrylic and nylon. Hand wash. I knotted the scarf twice to be sure it would not fall off and get lost. Angela Lansbury in Anthony Sicari top and matching scarf.  Background Painting The background is a picture of Queen Elizabeth I, looking very elegant.  She has red hair, a huge ruff, and white all over her face. I thought it was to cover pock marks, as one observer remarked. Another person said that it was to contrast the courtiers with the tanned skin of peasants who work outdoors, in the fields. I was attending a wine and dine event. My husband had organized the wines and written notes on them. I took a photo of another guest beside the Queen Elizabeth painting. The guest had red hair, so the painting made a good backgr...

Dress of the day 250, new vintage 4 piece Anthony Sicari summer skirt suit in white with turquoise and pastels

Image
Anthony Sicari outfits come with a matching scarf. Usually skirt, top and scarf, or skirt, top and jacket and scarf. You often find a top offered on its own. I suspect they have become detached from the full outfit. I like Anthony Sicari outfits because they are loose and baggy. This was important when buying on the internet to be sure the items would fit. The colours of this outfit are more suited to spring or summer. Mostly white. Colours Most of the outfits I see are for autumn or winter with a heavy knit bodice to the top,. Often the colour of the knitted part in a dark blue or red or black with vibrant contrasting satiny inset or appliqe. I keep a constant watch on ebay. If you live in the USA or UK, you are in luck. You save on the postage.  Angela's Accessories  White fabric hat brim with velcro at the back. From Walker's Hat Shop, Descanso, California. USA The hat brim is washable. The lace makes it more dressy. The white shoes are Les Jumelles (french for twins)...

Green ribbon ankle ties, dress 237, and how to store shoes

Image
Gorgeous Green Sandals, with peep toes, blue inner soles, green ribbon ties, espadrilles, worn by Angela. Photo by Trevor Sharot. I went shopping in my own wardrobe. At the back I found the forgotten green sandals. I loved the green ribbon tries. I loved the mixture of green and blue. The shoes are espadrilles, which means they have rope sides.  When I look closely they seem to be a synthetic but you really don't notice the sides. The exciting thing is the velvety soft blue underfoot. I had the box which shows that I bought them in Takashima department store in Ngee Ann City, next to Somerset MRT station which is one stop from Orchard MRT. Or a short walk along Orchard Road. If it is raining you can walk along underground at two levels, basement 1 or two from Orchard MRT. Shoe Box Storage & Labelling Saving the box is really handy. I wish I had written the date, or taped the bill to the box. If I want to store the shoes in the box, I can still photograph the shoes and pr...

Dress of the Day with Angela: 9 Giraffes. How To Convert A Skirt Into a Dress.

Image
Photo by Trevor Sharot.  Two lines of giraffes are around the hem.  Matching Brown Sandals I have matched the clothes with brown sandals, which I rarely wear. I found brown boring. But they match the colours and pick out the giraffe theme.  Above the giraffes, above the snow-capped mountains, you can read the words Mount Kilimanjaro in black. The black lettering is almost invisible, blending in with the black of the pattern. Skirt Converted Into A Dress The dress is actually a skirt. I am not tall and many dresses drag on the ground and trip me up as well as getting dirty around the hem and caught in my heels. So I hoist up the skirt and find it fits well around the bust, especially with shirred elastic. I recently discovered that you can add wide ribbons, two at the front and two at the back, to secure the dress in place, stop it slipping down or down on one side. Kilimanjaro is just south of the Kenyan border. Most souvenirs are t-shirts because that is what climb...
