Dress Of The Day with Angela

 I was looking for something summery and light to wear when giving a speech to Harrovians Speakers Club in London. Not red - too hot. Warm orange.  My basic piece was my colourful skirt. I love the colours, the flowiness, the feeling of luxury. The Silk Skirt, Multi-colour Light weight. Pure silk. Label Patra. UK. Half length black underskirt.  Patra Skirt Style Cut diagonally in forward slash and backlash in several pieces. Blows upwards in the wind Patra Skirt Pattern Black background. Large  sand smaller white moon shapes  on a stalk with a leaf.  Small disc shapes like baĺloons on teeny curved green stalks. Some are dark orange. . The others are pale salmon pink. She says, ' I love Primark. I buy a lot from there.' Red gloves, without fingertips, from Covent Garden.  Red beret. Red hoop ear-rings. Red lipstick. I checked on line for Covent Garden - which brings up shops in Covent Garden, Covent Garden clothes, which brings up clothes shops in Covent Garden, Covent Garden label, which brings up label making companies in Covent Garden, and in Ebay Covent Garden, with clothes selected as a category. On Ebay I found a few items of coats, and tee shirts and shirts, labelled London Covent Garden, one or two described as vintage, if used accurately meaning more than twenty years old. I then tried companies house to see if the company was still in business but could only find Covent Garden London for a real estate company. Black Strong colour contrast. Black jacket...

  The Black Jacket My new black jacket is old, vintage, from label Indigo Moon. But you would have no trouble buying an Indigo Moon jacket or similarly elaborate embellished top, suit, dress or coat nowadays. Ebay found me more than a thousand Indigo items. Jackets abound, in any colour combination you could imagine. Vibrant red, black or blue velour. Tee shirts in pink, purple and green. Also brown and orange embroidered vividly with gold thread and glinting sequins and gleaming tiny tubular beads. Neat and symmetrical, or mosaic and asymmetrical.  If I were still looking for a novelty, I could have bought handbags, or a swimsuit. Beautiful Buttons Five gib beautiful buttons are down the front. Plus an extra spare button inside. In case you lose a button, or want to test its durability. But the label says dry clean only. Despite being produced long ago, they are mostly in good condition. Some of them are flimsy without linings. I bought a dozen and none of them had pockets. Lots of jackets were available. Very few coats. No coats in my modest price range of under twenty pounds including postage of up to five pounds. Then I did a search for long coat or jacket with pockets. Up popped this one. Pockets! The letters spell out MERRY, a word we associate with the Christmas season because of the phrase used in songs. We wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. God rest ye merry gentleman is in a Christmas carol. The same goodwill message appears on Christmas cards and on greeting cards, Merry Christmas and a happy New Year. Perhaps that was why I got it reasonably priced. I bought it on Ebay for under ten pounds, despite the fact that it has lovely sequins, seems smart.  Is it tacky? the annoying way it splits the word merry into ME RR Y. The name of the ski resort is embroidered in orange. Above are mountain peaks outlined in white. Also in white is the height of the mountains, 3330 metres. Why do I need to know the height? Is that very high? My search question produced an AI answer which was a copy of an opening paragrph froom Wikipedia - 'altitude, as Alpe d'Huez's  Pic Blanc  summit at this height makes it one of the highest points in France and a reliable source of snow for its long ski season.  For context, this altitude is higher than the summit of the  Eiffel Tower  (about 300 meters) and most of the highest peaks in the British Isles, such as  Ben Nevis  (1,345 meters).' I was hungry for pockets, after a red dress from Shein left me anxiously waving my two hands around my waist, hunting for non-existent pockets, like two bereaved mothers. The first Moyabo dress I bought had a navy blue top, and a flared skirt printed with white flowers, with pale brown accents. Whilst I am not keen on pale brown, I matched the brown accents on the dress pattern with a pair of pale brown sandals. I also found a pair of sandals with blue. Photo by Angela Lansbury. I had been wearing a loose hooded jacket all the rainy season of winter and spring in the UK and Europe. Then the weather turned summy for five minutes. My husband frowned at my jacket. So I looked for a lighter jacket without a hood. I found a lightweight black jacket. It was short, waist length, small enough not to create a clutter or need hanging up. The brand label is Wallis Exclusive. Made in the UK. Dry Clean - Why? The label warns, dry clean only. Why? Because if the fabric shrinks in washing. Or the lining is a different fabric so when you wash it, the seams pucker, the item hands wrongly, it is too tight. Or the colours run. Or this happens on high heat and in case the person washing makes a mistake they will complain or be dis satisfied with the product. I think if I am very careful to wash on cold, the garment will stay the same colour and not shrink. I don't dry clean anything. I would wash it or rince it in cold water and hang it up to dry, ho...

  Photo by Angela Lansbury. Bought Hat My husband bought a warm hat in Galeries Lafayette in Beziers, France. It was more expensive than we wanted to pay, about 25 or 35 Euros but a nice warm hat and the cheapest they had. The colour was Invisible black. Invisable on dark restaurant floors under banquettes. Invisible under the black seat of a hire car.  I had wanted him to buy a cheaper orange hat, but he liked the softer, warmer black. Lost Hat After two days, the new black hat disappeared. I still had my white hat with the scarf attached. Years ago I had sewn in a name label. You need a name and phone number. Now I shall put labels in the inside lid of my travelling suitcase for my next trip, with a sewing kit and reels of black and white cotton. As soon as we buy a hat or gloves or coat I shall add a label. That way, if we leave it behind, somebody might shout after us. Or chase after us.
