Sunny Summer Orange Outfit Combining Plains and Patterns from Dorothy Perkins, and Patra by Angela Lansburu

I was looking for something summery and light to wear when giving a speech to Harrovians Speakers Club in London.

Not red - too hot. Warm orange.

My basic piece was my colourful skirt. I love the colours, the flowiness, the feeling of luxury.

The Silk Skirt, Multi-colour

Light weight. Pure silk.

Label Patra. UK. Half length black underskirt.

Patra Skirt Style

Cut diagonally in forward slash and backlash in several pieces. Blows upwards in the wind

Patra Skirt Pattern

Black background.

Large  sand smaller white moon shapes  on a stalk with a leaf.

Small disc shapes like baĺloons on teeny curved green stalks. Some are dark orange.

. The others are pale salmon pink. In electric light at night indoors they look yellow.

The Silk Mix Orange Top From Patra

Also from Patra. Lace up centre front. 8 loops. Size large. 55 % silk, 45% cotton.

A bit too casual for the skirt. But the colour matches. I had lots of tops with patterns which clashed with the pattern on the skirt, altogether too busy and mismatched to have a skirt and top in different patterns.

Patterns and Plains

I was shocked when a designer tried to introduce the idea of wearing multiple patterns. For a time the words match-match were used to imply something boring. It doesn't work for me, especially as I am petite. In my opinion it doesn't work on anyone else either. Buying matching sets saves me a lot of time and trouble and makes me look a lot neater.

However, here is the result of an hour's effort trying to match up oddments.

Pale Pink Polyester Blouse

Sleeveless. Size 16. Made in Romania. 100 % Polyester. Black collar. Very light for a summer heatwave. The black collar peeping over adds a touch of formality to the casual orange top.

Kim & Co Bright Pink Vest

Sleeveless vest. One of a pair in pink.  I have another pair in yellow. They are so soft and stretchy, so comfortable. And colourful. I would buy more in red, orange, blue, green, if they were available. Maybe I should write and tell them so.

Orange-pink Fabric Flower Hair Clip

The big fabric flower has a metal hair clip. But also a brooch. Dual purpose. Handy on holiday, as well as at home.

How To Use Real Orange Roses As Accessories

Real flowers are used in bridal bouquets and the groom's and ushers' buttonholes. Real flowers can be preserved with a tiny tube of water, sealed across the top with practical plastic or clingfilm, then covered with decorative silver foil.

You can also pick a single fresh flower to put in your hair or your buttonhole just before going out for lunch or dinner. Then the flower has to last only a couple of hours without water before you get it home to put it in a vase.

These flowers were on my dining table for the pleasure of guests invited to an evening dinner at the weekend. A couple of days afterwards I picked up the little vase of flowers as an accessory for my photo.

Picked from the front garden in London, England, UK.

Standard Rose. Three blooms. Scented. Orange colour. The roses change colour as they grow.

Colourful Vase

Small multicolour ceramic vase, black with vertical stripes in turquoise, yellow, and white, with small oval red daubs. The rim and the rim of the base are gold paint. Underneath it says Made in West Germany, and a number.
