Primark's autumn sales and Christmas offers Dress of the day, 401

Image
I popped into Primark in Harrow for a look.  Pickpockets The Santander branch had a recording warning about pick  pockets, so in Primark I kept avoiding other people and moving, and watching if anybody was approaching when I stopped to read a label. I was looking for cheap items. the cheapest were those marked down from higher prices, about 12 for dresses and separates. Bargains Sale Items  Angela Lansbury in cubicle trying on bargain top which she later bougtht.  I sometimes photograph mysel in the cubicle wearing the outfit. I can see if it suits me. Send the photo to family and ask them. Ggo back for it later if I decided I want it - and show an assistant the item I am looking for. Or hunt for the same item new or second hand online if I am out of luck at that store. it would be helpful to photograph the label too, if I want to phone and ask if other stores have it in another size.. I found one item, a top, reduced to three pounds.  I liked the starburs...

Blue H & M Dress, dress of the day 393

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a blue background dress from H &M. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The Blue H & M Dress Blue background dress has a white pattern. Blues are hard to match. But I had a white blouse, so I wore this. On the internet and on Facebook you can see lots of videos of how to tie a scarf, but mine is simply hanging, which partly obscures the cleavage.  Cleavage cover I had a choice. To insert a dickey or false front, also called a removable or detachable collar. I have one or two which are plain white.  The alternative which saves hunting for a matching dickey without distracting collar colours and embrodiery, is simply to add a fastening. I decided that a snap or press stud fastener in small size is qhich to fasten and unlikely to pull apart (as opposed to hook and eye. I like velcro but it can scratch your skin, so the press stud was the right andwer. You have to get the two sides exactly measured up from the point of the V neck otherwide you end up with...

Shein Long blue and white dress. Outfit 391.

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a blue and white Shein dress. Photo by Trevor Sharot Copyright. The Dress It has  bell shape cuffs, very wide single layer cuffs.   The dress Shein. Blue and white. Blue colour suts me. It maches my eyes. It flatters my complexion.  I bought this dress from St Luke's charity shop in London, England. The style is caftan. Just pull it over your head to et dressed in a hurry. The dress is too long. If I take off the belt, I keep tripping over the hem. Should I turn it up, or cut off the hem and use the leftover piece for a matching belt, hairband, or scarf? Sandals The brand name is Toms. Accessories I chose the co-ordinateng sadals with a shade of blue and contrasting warm pink. Umbrella The umbrella is also blue and pink. It is a child size umbrella. I bought one of thse online by mistake. Then I found it really handy. Small enough to stuff in a large tote bag. Just big enough to protect yourself on a druzzly day. Children's umbrellas are often...

Zip up dresses in red and blue. And Inserting Zippers/zips! 371

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a red and white dress with a front zip. Photo copyright Angela Lansbury.  Zip or Sipper? Firstly, the word zip is British English. American say zipper. If you want to search online for a dress or other garment with a zip, or to replace a zip, or to speak on the phone to a shop or seller, remember that American say and write zipper. So if you break the tab, on American websites, or those aimed at American buyers, look for the word zipper. Zip up dresses are wonderful. They are quick to put on. No buttons to lose.  No decision making about a top matching a skirt or trousers (Americans call trousers pants.)  I like a zip at the front. easy to put on. gives you the option of lowering the zip if you are hot. Raise it if about in public. Zip ups can be at the front. Or the back Back Zips If zips are at the back, they sometimes have a hook and eye at the top. You need somebody else to do this up. Unless you are an acrobat!. Hidden Zips I remember o...

Royal Blue and white outfit 339

Image
Photo by Angela Lansbury. I was looking for green and white to match the green and white of the Esperanto flag because I was giving a presentation on the Esperanto auxiliary language for my languages club on Zoom every Sunday. Green long Sleeved Vest Patra, UK, copany sells lots of silk, silk mixtures, cotton, bamboo, underwwear in lots of styles, co-ordinating clothes, dresses, sheets, scarves, and clothes for men and women including socks. White V Neck Top Black ground sheep Aprong Ulster Weavers Royal blue tight stretchy dress. Background red A sheet from John Lewish department store. Hung over a bookcase to hide the distraction and untidiness of the books. The red of the apron covers the distracting grey of my IKEA office chair and matches the red background. Adds some warmth and jollity to the cool of the blue and white and green. The blue dress echoes the blue of my eyes.  The V neck of the dress echoes the v neck of the white blouse. The green Patra vest fills in the ...

DIY decoration on a day dress sleeves for glamour, dress of the day 235

Image
A blue day dress made glamorous with DIY decoration of hite feathers and mock pearls on the cuffs. Photo by Angela Lansbury. At a wedding I was impressed by my friend's blue dress with white feathery and pearl decoration on the cuffs of the sleeves. Her outfit looked very smart and expensive and glamorous. She told me she had sewn on the decoration herself. She makes a lot of craft items, using pieces of decoration. For example, masks. Her dress has a wide circular swing hem added on. But the top is a simple blue shirt-waisted style. It is the contrasting colour which is effective and the soft effect, like feathers and lace. Her outfit is completely unique. She must have spent a reasonable amount on the fancy decoration. But even so, much less than an expensive dress.  Day and evening What is interesting is that you can transform a shirt waisted style into something so glamorous with the sleeve decoration. It\s like adding a black bow at the neck of a white blouse.  ...

I bought it from St Luke's charity shop for five pounds.  Many charity shops advertise clothes online. The cheapest items on ebay are 99p. The UK postage is mostly a minimum of about 3.50 pounds. So the total of the item and postage online would be a minimum of about 4.50 pounds, usually more. That makes the cheapest dress from a ch...

Dress 426 Why Buy A Blue Eyelet Dress? (Broderie Anglaise)

Image
A blue eyelet dress for a blue eyed girl. Dress of the Day 426. Selfie photo by Angela Lansbury. Eyelet Dress In Blue I bought this blue eyelet dress from eBay. Eyelet used to be known as broderie anglaise. The new anglicized name, eyelet, is snappier, one word instead of two, two syllables instead of five, quicker to say and quicker to type. It also sounds more modern. Does not require understanding, spelling or pronunciation of French. Broderie is French for embroidery. I cannot explain why the English are given credit for this design.  Searching The only drawback is that when you search for eyelet online, you are offered lace up shoes and heavy curtains which hand on poles from large eyelet holes. If you search for matching sets, you are sent outfits for toddlers. However, this year, 2002, when you finally find one item, by adding dress or skirt, the search engines then inundate you with other offers. The navy blue neck is V-neck. I felt cold. So I added a vest in black which ha...

Blue with Belt dress. Troodos shop Dress 2, with a half belt which ties at the back, post dress of the day 402

The two piece belt made of the same fabric is attached at both sides of the waist, which ties at the back, draws the dress in if you are thin. The fabric is fine and light. The central placket has ten small pearly buttons with a slight edge. Label The neck label says SWARNA, free size, 100% cotton, made in India, hand wash. The symbols say wash at 30 degrees, iron on one, no bleach, no tumble drying.   Troodos shops. The dress rail is at the front of the shop on the far right. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Troodos mountains in the middle of Cyprus are an area for skiing in winter and hiking in summer. After a hike along a trail, we drove down to the mini-roundabout stopped for lunch at the outdoor restaurant beside the Troodos Hotel. Across the road is a circle of shops and a car park. On the way to lunch I took a qu...

Be Beautiful in Blue. How to do True Blue to match blue eyes to a blue hat, Under Armour tee-shirt and dress. Outfit, dress of the day number 277.

Image
Blue-eyed in a blue outfit, dress of the day 277. Photo by Angela Lansbury.  Jet lag makes me look extremely haggard. Never mind. I love this blue outfit, royal blue, bright blue, true blue. Beautiful blue. Red is exciting but blue is soothing. Eyes Eyes reflect surrounding colours. On a gray day my eyes look a dull gray. But wear all blue and the eyes reflect blue. Apparently you can get contact lenses which change your eye colour. Another option is spectacles with coloured frames. I started this outfit with the tee-shirt. Under Armour Tee-shirt The tee-shirt is made in Vietnam and was bought in Vietnam. Many shops had them in different sizes and colours and prices. The logo on the outside says Under Armour. The inside label says heatgear (with a copyright symbol). The size is XXL. It is soft, stretchy and smart with the silver embroidered motif. I wish I had bought more in more colours. They would also have made great gifts. On looking in Wikipedia, I discovered that Under...

Pretty purple parrots on jungle print and Blue Top from GG and the mathematical GG>5 sign. Oops. No. Dress 184

Image
Blue polyester top from GG>5. Oops. I typed it the wrong way round! It's a good thing I photographed the label. Their Letters GG in their name stand for Generation Gap.  (A bit like Next, which was to bridge the gap between clothes for the young and clothes for the older buyers and wearers.) The Letters GG are followed by a sign like an arrow head pointing forward pointing. I wondered, how am I going to type that? For you, my reader. The clothes company websites explained that the forward arrowhead is a mathematical symbol. I copied the sign and googled and a website said it is the sign for narrowing in mathematics, and a keyboard symbol. I looked at my keyboard and found the sign  above the full stop (Americans say period).  What That Arrow Head Means In Maths (Americans say math) My husband drew the sign with the v on its side. The fat end is the bigger one. With the arrowhead pointing towards the five, what preceded was larger. It means greater than 5. You ca...
