Van Gogh scarf, dress of the day 218

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a Van Gogh scarf. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The Scarf My husband bought this for me from the Van Gogh exhibition in Jakarta, Indonesia. It came folded in a packet. So he just bought one with a bit of red. It is mostly dark blue. So I am wearing with white for contrast. A white blouse, but a black jacket, open sleeved to show the white blouse sleeve. I might remove the black jacket over dinner. I considered cuttint it to make a tunic dress. But, when I sid this, my husband objected to the idea of cutting it. Why? Not that he didn't trust me to be left with a wearable item. I don't think he wanted the fabric to remain pristine. He did not like the idea of cutting the Van Gogh design. I tired it under the neck at the front with a double knot. A brooch would have made a neater look. However, I am always wary of brooches leaving two tiny holes. You can buy lots of Van Gogh clothing and accessory items online. White blouse The white blouse is from Marks & ...

Sofia's Sarong For the Swimming Pool, or beach, with beautiful butterflies from Indonesia, and beautiful big butterfly print from Shein

Image
A large scarf makes a swimming pool or beach sarong. You just tie a double knot. The fabric has to be strong enough not to tear, but thin enough to tie a double knot which will hold. A thin. strong cotton will do, or a large oblong sold as a sarong. Sofia in a sarong from Indonesia. Photo by Angela Lansbury.Copyright. I was taken by this lovely lime green sarong. It has a fringed edge. The pattern is butterflies. I call this colour lime.  See later post on the colour lime. Do you like butterflies? Do you like butterflies as a pattern on fabric and paper? The butterfly has been chosen as the new symbol of Costa Rica. Useful Websites One big butterfly when you spread your arms wide, but only then. 12.25, from Shein. Good value. Unusual. Curved edge. https://sg.shein.com/Butterfly-Print-Tassel-Trim-Cover-Up-Skirt-p-12445819-cat-2176.html?src_identifier=st%3D2%60sc%3Dsarong%60sr%3D0%60ps%3D1&src_module=search&src_tab_page_id=page_goods_detail1681133054162&mallCode=1 h...

The difference between a sarong and a kebaya - my new sarong skirt, dress of the day 505

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a sarong from Indonesia. Photo by Trevor Sharot. What is the difference between a sarong and a kebaya? A sarong sounds simpler, like a large sash, or something loose you wind around yourself, like a shorter version of a saree. A large beach scarf? Close in meaning.  Singaporean Kabayas  In Singapore you can see and buy fitted dresses or matching bodices and skirts called kebayas. Sometimes also called sarong kebayas. The Singapore Airlines air hostesses wear kebayas. Indonesian Sarongs In Indonesia the temples ask men and women who arrive in shorts to cover their legs. At the outside entrance to the temples and sellers of sarongs. A sarong is seamed up vertically so it cannot come apart revealing your legs. It might be called a tube sarong. Unlike a wrap skirt. The cost is quite modest. The pattern might be repeated.  Patterns My husband bought one in brown effect. I prefer lively red colour clothing to boring brown.  I prefer curves to geomet...

Money for old clothes? Buy and sell through Carousell in Singapore, Asia, Australia or Ebay, Etsy, Vinted (Europe and Americas) and many more in the UK, USA and worldwide Post 537

In Singapore a good place for selling and buying second hand clothes is refash. I have found them good for buying second hand clothes. I used two branches. One is in Changi Point, near the Expo MRT, one stop from Changi Airport. Another place is Carousell. If you are puzzling over the spelling, the usual spelling of the word carousel, which the British call a roundabout, is carousel, but the company name word ends Sell, with a double ll, as in buying and selling. Wiki explains Carousell logo Carousell  is a  Singaporean   smartphone  and web-based  consumer to consumer  and  business to consumer  marketplace for buying and selling new and secondhand goods. Headquartered in Singapore, it also operates in Malaysia, Indonesia, the Philippines, [1]  Cambodia, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macau, [2]  Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Black Anti-Odor Tee-shirt, Black DIY Skirt, White dickey, With Indian Mirrorwork Shoes, dress 381

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a Toastmasters International tee-shirt in black, with a DIY black skirt and Indian Mirror black shoes. Photo by Trevor Sharot. I had a friend who always wore black, She found it easier to co-ordinate. I thought it was depressing. On the other hand, I travelled on short trips with a black skirt, but not with a black top. I added a black skirt to this tee-shirt and feel that I would not wear it regularly. I need colour near my face. Especially on Zoom. When I travelled as a busy travel writer, the black skirt was good, for not showing stains and in any case was being hidden under the table at dinner. I matched it with various tops. The black skirt and black shoes went with everything.  If you wear black, it could go well with black hair, or make you look monotonous. If you have white teeth and eyes, and they are your good features, you can brighten up a black tee-shirt with a white colour. On zoom you want neck interest. Fancy shoes don't get much attention un...

Editing a photo. Dress of the day 246 Sunshine yellow caftan. By Elok

Image
Photo by Trevor Sharot. What do I like about this picture? The jolly smile. The word Welcome on the mat. The ankle strap on the shoes.  Colours The pink of the shoes echoing the mat. The yellow of the umbrella and the ring matching the dress. The orange hat echoing the dress.  Props The umbrella and ring making a come rain come shine combination.  What do I not like?  The reflected white ceiling light behind the head. The white could be edited out if I had time. On the other hand it draws attention to the face.  The dress could be a better outline to show its shape.  The carpet  fringe could easily be edited out. On the other hand it makes a frame to the picture.  The swimming ring at night is absurd. Why am I holding it? Maybe I am just tidying up.
