  I bought a scarf, second hand, pre-loved, whatever you want to call it, which had the label 100%. But 100% what? It felt soft. But not quite as soft as silk. I had hoped for silk. Was it a good modern imitation? I tried googling lists of words for silk in all languages. It was not silk. \What was the language?  It looked like Russian. I worked out from another Russian word that the first letter was L.   What was the E with the two dots? The e pronounced like ay. The last letter looking like an H was N.  Lane/  The French for wool is laine. The word was not Russian for wool. I had invited a friend to lunch with me at a restaurant. I showed her the scarf. She suggested linen. That sounded like the letters L A for ay, N. But the scarf did not feel thick and heavy and tightly woven, like linen suits which are stiff, resembling denim jeans. Linen. Harrovians toastmasters club. This year I went to Harrovians. The two leaders of the meeting, husband and wife, were in matching jumpers. I thought that was very effective. I then received a notice from the sister club of which I am also a member. Time for me to get out my Xmas outfit. Years ago I would not have bought a seasonal outfit. I thought it was a waste of money to buy seasonal items which you only wear once to a party. Too twee.  Might offend non-Christian friends. Then, one year I saw one in a sale.  Now, when asked to dress in Xmas theme, I can oblige.  In theory I should keep it in a suitcase up in the attic or an outroom such as a store room, maid's room, scullery/utility room.  The suitcase would be labelled Xmas with a all the decorations.  However, I tend to keep most things out. (Eyelet dresses used to be called broderie anglaise. Once folksy, now fashionable. In the old days only white, now also in black and all kinds of colours.) What did I want? Preferably not white, because I already have one in white and would like a change. I bid on this attractive lime green. I won the bidding at only five pounds but the postage was over three so the total was about eight pounds. Still a bargain. The dress price ticket said twenty pounds! As the old saying goes, you win some, you lose some. This is one that I won, in both senses of the word. I won the auction. I won a bargain. The Dress Brand & Label The neck label says Made in Italy. I needed to wear  a collar with it because I am on Zoom internet meetings, so I found a yellow silk blouse to co-ordinate with the top edge of the green linen-like dress. The fiber is called Ramie, which grows in Asia. The Dress The dress is a stiff, rough 100 per cent ramie fabric and creases. The colour is fabulous, bright green and yellow. (I have enhanced the colour slightly by editing it in the mobile phone using Auto.) Just sitting at my desk looking down at the skirt, the colour lifts my spirits.  The label says Davinci, size 10, 100% ramie, made in Hong Kong, sample, not to be sold. Maybe the assistant had not noticed the label.  Maybe they were selling it anyway. Maybe I saw it hidden on the back of a rack and it wasn't supposed to be sold but the assistant decided to sell it to me anyway.  Maybe I wanted the non sample half and the assistant wanted to make...
