I had previously gone to the expense of buying an orange skull cap But today I happened to have a small white linen table napkin lying next to the hat. I folded. It to fit inside the dome of the hat . The linen did the trick. Temporarily. But the new liner slipped. So I needed to fasten it to the hat with 2 safety pins. I also needed two ribbons. One either side, sewn on inside to the inner headband. But there was no inner headband or sweatband.  The straw hat was a promotional gift. Advertising Ceará. Ceara is the sandy coastal state in north eastern Brazil. An article about Panama hats from Ecuador alerted me to the qualities of genuine hand made hats using natural fibres. Rica means rich in Spanish, the noun coming after the adjective, the opposite to English grammar. But you can think of the country's name as a reminder of the language and grammar. (Similar to Puerto Rico meaning rich port, the island in the Caribbean.) I asked the painter to do red. He did an orangey red. That was good enough. I also like orange. He spoke Spanish. But somebody standing nearby translated. To wear it in summer, I need to add a ribbon to hold it on. I was very pleased with my hat. A great introduction to Costa Rica and reminder of the country.

It looks like a cross between a straw hat and a Panama hat and a trilby. The label inside says 100% polyester. The hat is lined with white fabric so there is not scratching of your skulls from spiky bits of real or imitation straw. I could sew onto the inside band a piece of stretchy thin flat, hat elastic.  (I did that recently on my Sandeman hat.) DIY hats to decorate I later looked online to see what I could find and make in a similar style. I could buy a white hat from China. But last time I bought a pink cowgirl hat, it arrived out of shape from the packaging being bashed.  Silk and Smart Hats I found another stand selling even smarter hats in silk, other styles, such as one amusing beret. I have not yet visited Brazil, so my straw hat which has a hat-band advertising Ceara in Brazil must have come from the World Travel Market. The World Travel Market is a trade show held in November in London at a conference centre in the East End of London reached on driverless the monorail. The Elizabeth line will make the East End of London easier to reach. Brazil and Ceara Region The upward accent is on the second a, the last letter of the name Ceara. It is the acute accent, stressed. The language of Brazil is Portuguese, unlike the rest of South America which speaks Spanish. Hat Style The hat is the same shape as a fedora (shown in felt in Wikipedia) which has a crease from the front to the back on the crown. The brim curves up all around. I wore the green-t-shirt over the black underskirt (a long Marks and Spencer slip with lace godet or triangular inset at hem level). The lime green and black were not a real match. I decided to add a black belt.  That was perfect. Next I looked for black shoes, and black bows, slip-ons, for my hair.
