Hermes belt with the letter H or buy a belt with your initials

Image
When I saw my new friend wearing a belt with the letter H my first thought was that her name was Hazel or Hannah. But almost immediately I realised the H should for the designer label Hermes. However, if your name is Hazel or Hannah, that is another reason for buying such a belt. Not exactly cheap. My husband says you can easily pay a three figure sum for a man's leather belt at an airport. On the Hermes site I saw narrow reversible belts for woman with the H at 585 pounds, 825 for a man's belt. My favourite was the women's reversible belt with red and pink. The cheapest I saw on eb ay was a man's belt at 177.50 pounds, open to offers. When I did another search I came up with prices starting very low. But the items might have been belt without buckle, buckle without belt, or belt with small scratches. Could be useful if you just want to try out the style, or are good at renovating, or want to smarten up your everyday clothes. Initial Belt Buckles Amazon has lots of re...

Indigo Moon Butterfly pattern jacket

Image
The Jacket The label is Indigo Moon.  My current favorite. Ebay has many jackets, tops and tee shirts with matching skirt suits, and a few coats, bags and dresses. I have several jackets.  This one is medium size. My husband said. 'The sleeves are too long.' I was going to fold them underneath, inside.   Then I realised I could fold them back on the outside of the sleeve. The sleeves are edged in braid. Any disadvantages of Indigo Moon jackets?  .Most of them have no pockets. Useful Websites for Indigo Moon Ebay Etsy Please follow my blogs and see my other posts on Indigo Moon clothes.

Convert a short dress into a bag. Dress 769 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
This sequin pinafore dress which I bought from St Luke's is too small, too tight and the light colour doesn't flatter my full figure. Also I don't wear backless tops.  However, when I lifted the short dress up and the top fell down over the skirt, I thought, I only have to sew up the horizontal hem and I have a large, sequined evening bag. I found a thread of matching colour. However, any colour would have been adequate. By turning the garment inside out to sew, the thread which I used did not notice from the outside.   Button thread would have been stronger. to make the thread stronger, I doubled the thread, tying a knot at the end. When sewing any garment with doubled thread, in theory you could oscillate the direction of the first couple of stitches to secure both ends of the thread, to avoid the irritation or lump of a knot. I had done this previously and it was not a success.  I started my sewing and had to leave it to go out for the evening. When I came ...

Next dress, the little black dress. Post 768 by Angela Lansbury.

Black dress, label Next. Worn by Angela Lansbury. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The Black Dress Rather than a little black dress, this is a rather large black dress. It manages to make me look tall and slim, when other outfits make me look small and fat. Long black dress.stretchy fabric. Buttons Tiny square buttons. Gleaming. Two parallel cut glass bars. Scarf I added a scarf as a tie belt for a touch of colour. Scarf bought for £1 in St Luke's. Problem Bag Needs Repairing. Dress of the Day, post 766 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I love my Indigo Moon coat and matching bag. The bag looks lovely flat on the table or clutched in my hand. The front is embroidered, matching the jacket.  Ebay and other sites have a couple more Indigo Moon bags, which don'[t seem to match anything. So what I have is unique. I prefer a bag the size of a tote bag. However, because of the matching, I could not resist this bag. Another possibility is to sew it on the front of a larger black bag. The back has no pattern, so no visual appeal would be lost. Cracked Lining Indigo Moon Bag With Cracked Lining. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Cracking By Clasp Of Bag However, open up the bag, and it has an attractive glossy red paint-like strip inside around the circular magnetic clasp - starting to crack. Cracking of Bag's Gusset At Side The same red plastic-like glossy material is used in the v shaped gusset opening between the front and back panels of the bag. As soon as you touch it and try to press it down, it starts to peel off. Once...

Indigo Moon Matching Jacket And Bag - and making your own matching set. Dress 765 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I bought these online from Ebay which has a huge number of Indigo Moon outfits from the UK and USA. I had bought two Indigo Moon belts which I loved and thought I would look for Indigo Moon bags to complete an outfit. Indigo Moon jacket and matching bag with author Angela Lansbury. Photo by Trevor Sharot.  Jacket Indigo Moon. Usually I go for those with sequins for sparkle. However the embroidery and bright contrasting colours are so jolly that I love this jacket even without the sequins. Matching A Bag and Jacket It is quite unusual to have a matching bag and jacket, unless both are made in a specific pattern, such as a tartan, or Burberry. Making A Matching Pair I was wondering what I could do to make a big bag to match this or other outfits. If you start from scratch you can buy extra fabric. Or use offcuts to decorate a bag with a plain background. Or embroider the same pattern, on both bag and jacket or coat. Pick flowers, hearts, seasonal themes, whatever. Another optio...

Why wash new clothes before wearing them? Advice From Kim & Co. Post 763 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
Why Wash New Underwear? I was following a few forums on Facebook and elsewhere on whether you should wash underwear or all clothes. Some people say you don't know who might have checked the garment at the factory, packed it, re-packed it, posted it. Whether it lay around and got dusty, dust mites, insects, bacteria, viruses.  Whether an item was tried on in the shop, then put back in the package. Or posted out, tried on, wrong size, returned still with the tag attached, but touched, and against somebody's skin. Washing Donated Clothes  When I lived in Northwood in North west London I used to shop in the Cancer Research shop. I queried the cleanliness of donated clothes. An assistant told me that everything was washed in their washing machine at the back of the shop.  I think every charity shop should have a washing machine, and mark which clothes have been washed if some are washed and others not. Risks Of Unwashed Items How do you know that donated clothes are not night ...

Kim & Co Clothes - light pink vests - Dress of the Day 762 by Angela Lansbury

Image
I was hunting for Kim & Co clothes. I have stretch suits which are not smart but neat and fit all the time. I hunted on ebay and up came the offer of what looked like two pink vests. They are not the heavy stretch fabric, but very light, like underwear.  I had hesitated to order the two pink vest tops from Ebay because of the size. They are soft and comfortable to wear. Then I looked up the company online and found lots of interesting information. The Kim & Co Company 1 Kim is not the family name but the first name of female designer Kim Mendelson.  2 Although the clothes are designed in Montreal, Canada, they are also marketed through online clothes channels in the UK and Germany. 3 Designer Kim produces not just two seasons of clothes, summer and winter, not just four seasons, but a new collection every month for the online shopping channels. 4 Their unique selling point is designed for women by women, why not for a woman by a woman. Thinking about it, with tha...

Shorten Or Change Trouser Leg Styles, Inspired by the past. Post 760 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I was looking at an old post on altering trouser legs (pants legs) which were too long. I had scanned down to check on any posts lacking pictures and this post popped up about shortening suggestions. Update May 5th 2026 Trouser Leg Styles When I looked up trouser styles in Wikipedia weeks later I found many more style from historic options.  Public domain image from Wikipedia. Whilst I have the scissors in my hand, and have the nerve to cut up fabric, what more can I do with trouser legs? Slit Trouser Legs  But that would expose my legs. Sexy, but impractical. Balloon or Barrel Ankles Attention-getting. Different. Wide legs with godets (triangular insets). Make Tabs to Shorten Trouser Legs Like the ones on shirt sleeves. A ribbon of fabric to be sewn in below the knee. Cut the ribbon to just shorter than the fabric leg's cuff so the ribbon doesn't dangle down untidily and annoying your ankle or tripping you up. Sew a button on the outside. Cut a slit slightly larger than...

Elsa from Frozen - tied and tidy ponytail. Style of the season, by Angela Lansbury. Post 759.

Image
I first saw this style of ponytail worn by a mother at a soft play centre in Mill Hill. Post 744. Then I saw it again, worn by an entertainer dressed as Elsa from the film (Americans say movie) Frozen, for a five-year-old's birthday party. When I looked it up in Wikipedia I could not find it under hair styles. I eventually found pictures under the word ponytail. When I was a child a ponytail was usually what was described in Wikipedia as a high ponytail. Ponytails from the nape of the neck were more discreet, more usually a style preferred by men. When I looked in Wikimedia Commons I found the same picture again of the style I was trying to track down and name, this time with the words tied ponytail.  Notice six hair ties or bands, all different colours. Add ties to a summer hat. Dress post 758 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
This summer sun hat has a wide floppy brim. I sewed on pink ribbon to fasten the hat under my chin.  I had a choice of smart satin ribbon or matt tape-like ribbon. The satin would have suited smart, silky outfits. But I was planning a hiking holiday. With jeans and cotton clothes or stiff linen, the matt tape went better. Also it was a better match with the fabric and colour of the hat.# I sewed the ribbon onto the hatband where it joins the hat. I tried the hat on.  Both pieces were fixed equal distance from the label and any seams centre back.  then I noticed the information on the label. The hat was made in China. Not a surprise.  But it was a hat made from paper and bamboo.  Hat Size Select Hat size 57 cm. I buy hats which are sold off cheaply even if they are too small or large for me. I am prepared to take the trouble to alter them to fit. If the hat is too large, I can temporarily wear a scarf to keep a large hat in place. If the hat is too small, ...
