Black & White Jacket, Mystery Label 457

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a black and white dress, black and white jacket, red short sleeved top and red shoes. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Photo edited by Angela Lansbury. The basis for the outfit is the dress. The label is Coast. Size 16.  Simple Style The neck is V neck, cross over. The black and white dress had three quarter length sleeves, a bit chilly for winter.  The Magic Jacket The jacket transformed the outfit. It turned the dress into an outfit. What was special about the jacket? The striking white long flowing collar. I can't tell you the manufacturer nor the line. The label was cut out of my black and white jacket. I had hung it on the hanger with the black and white dress and decided they matched well enough.  The long sleeved jacket had longer sleeves.  The long white colour of the jacket took away from the over all black effect of the dress. The white added a pleasing contrast. A touch of drama. Deep Pockets The two deep pockets on the jacket, one on ...

White crocs Post 538

Image
Shoes on the underground train, including Crocs on the left. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. I admired these white Crocs on the train. I crept up close to check that they really were Crocs. They had the word CROCS embossed large. The real deal. Crocs are currently on offer. An advertisement for Crocs popped up on my Facebook page. Unfortunately, they only had their two low price offer of about 20 dollars on the colours yellow and orange. I already have a newish orange pair and an old yellow pair. I would never have bought white Crocs for fear that they would quickly get dirty. Of course, one of the advantages of Crocs is that you can wash them off quickly and easily. Even so, I hesitate to buy white shoes. They do look good. Create A Chrismukah Outfit: Red Reindeer Jumper for Christmas and Six point Star of David Jewellery For Hanukah. Outfit 564

Image
Angela wearing a star of David in red and green, and red reindeer outfit, dress of the day. Outfit 564. Photo by Trevor Sharotl Copyright.  Oops - I was invited to a Hanukah party and I did not have a hanukah outfit. I had a Xmas jumper, with rheindeer. What to do? Add a star of David necklace. The six point star of David is known as the seal of Solomon to Muslims and the Star of David to Jews. Its origins could be a good luck symbol of six points to trap the devil or the evil eye, the enemy.  You can buy star of David jewellery in many jewellery shops and the shops in Jewish Museums. I bought a colourful star of David necklace with matching ear-rings made by Eva at Changi airport. I thought the necklace in red and green was just right as to wear for both Christmas and Hanukah.  The jumper is label George, which is from Asda. I thought the reindeer design was childish and cheap looking but when I teamed it up with a red skirt, and orange-red velvet  track suit bottom...

Blue Sport Shoes to match towelling robe for swimming. Dress of the day 541.

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing blue Sport shoes with a royal blue towelling robe by the swimming pool. Photo by Angela Lansbury. I am on the mailing list for Crocs but I still look at all the similar style and cheaper brands, especially for the deals of 20 dollars or 20 pounds or less and the colours which I want.  I wanted a darker blue to go with a towelling robe which I wear for swimming.  The Towelling Robe The towelling robe is neater than carrying around a bulky towel. I can manage with a tiny face flannel size to dry off my feet but often forget even that. (Which increases the risk of athletes foot if you don't dry your feet and leave them all day in wet shoes, so I dry my feet and change into another pair or Crocs or Croc style colourful synthetic clogs.) The towelling robe was originally a wrap around. I found that a nuisance. It constantly came undone. Even when done up, it could be too revealing. It tended to hang sideways. The hem was always a different length on t...

Crocs - Why I love Them! Post 533

Image
I love Crocs. They look ugly and clumpy, agreed, but they are so practical.  Firstly, they do not cramp your toes and deform your feet like fashion shoes. Secondly, they fit. The rotating strap is slightly tighter in one direction than the other. They are quick to put on. If you have the rotating strap facing forwards, they are slip ons. Looser.  Too loose? Pull the strap back and they are secure around your heel. TIGHTER! You can wear them in the rain. They protect your toes from hitting against objects. They cover your whole front foot from the sun to prevent cancer of the upper foot. If you get them wet, they are quick to dry.  If you get them muddy, you can wash them off. If you can't afford them, you can get cheap imitations. What is wrong with the cheap imitations? What is different about them? They might have holes which have ragged edges  of still have a film of foam half way across. They are different colours.  Crocs themselves come in plain or du...

Why Shein's Synthetic Shoes Are Ideal For Travelling - Also Called Slip on Clogs, or Flat Mules Outfit 476

Image
I have two favorite types of shoes for travelling. I mostly wear sandals which have hook and loop (Velcro or touch and close). You can take them off fast. But now I am adding slip on shoes, synthetic clogs with pull forward, pull back, straps, flat mules At Airport Security Checks I have to take off shoes or sandals at security. Put them in the box which x-rays them. Or remove them when something goes ping because of a metal buckle on my sandals, belt, or bra. You can put them back on fast. They expand when your feet swell in the heat when going for a summer holiday. Or when your feet shrink, you can tighten. The real deal, Crocs, can be expensive, if you want full price this year's latest design and colour. They are expensive in department stores in Singapore, even last year's model and colour, in the sale. I looked on ebay and Shein. Their marketing has me, my email, in their sights, for emails, imploring me to buy now, during sale time. Guess what colour I was looking for?...

How To Choose A Swimsuit, One Piece, 2 or 3 Separate Pieces? Short or long sleeves and Legs? To Zip Or not? Black and pink swimsuit with pink stripe, dress of the day 297.

Image
Angela Lansbury in top half of long-sleeved, skirted, two-piece swimsuit, black with pink horizontal stripe. Dress of the day 297. Photo by Trevor Sharot..  The pink does not go with my Crocs. It will have to do. I chose a base colour of black because I thought it would be easier to match up with accessories. I already have an orange swimsuit and want to alternate them when one is wet. And it's more fun to have two than wear the same thing all the time. Today I did another search and realised why I chose this design. I wanted the top and shorts or trousers separate. If the trousers were too tight, the top might still fit. It the top was long or short for my torso, never mind, that would not affect the position of the crotch. I was not thrilled with the fabric. It is that modern this stuff they cut with scissors instead of needing to hem. I looked at the fabric specifications. Elastane, basically elastic, okay.  I bought through ebay which is not as easy for me to use wh...

Dress 276. Reversible Orange Outfit Reversed To Flower Pattern. Scarf Tied Into Cowl.

Image
Angela in reversible orange dress with scarf turned into a cowl. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Orange Dress This orange dress is one of my favourite lievely colours. I searched online for reversible dress in red, orange or pink and found this. You can buy lots of reversible dresses online through ebay and other sources such as J D Williams catalogues.  This side has a flower pattern. The reverse is an abstract print. The fringed scarf has the abstract pattern. This is less obvious if the scarf is tied up rather than left hanging straight. How To Tie The Scarf You need a large scarf which  hangs down to waist level or longer.  1 Tie together the two central  pinched side hems, about where the waist high last button and last buttonhole would be on a blouse. (I first tried to tie it at bust height but the scarf would not go over my head at the next stage.) 2 Half way up, about bust height, you twist your scarf into a figure of eight. Put the lower loop over your head....

Crocs? Or Travel Shoe with toe protection and replacable footbed - Birkenstock Super-Birki in Apple Green (Art:0068081)

Image
My old yellow Crocs on the far right. New orange crocs, last season's design in the 2021 sale. Another brand in two colours.  I like Crocs because of the movable strap. You can have it at the back of your ankle for a tighter fit. Or move it over your instep for a looser fit and to make it quick to put on and off. Dress 275 Striking orange reversible dress with matching scarf, Disney Mary Poppins hat, cape and clasp

Image
Angela in dress 275, Orange reversible dress with matching scarf. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Dress The orange dress is reversible. Two for the price of one.  Matching Scarf The matching scarf has fringes on the short ends. I used the scarf as a belt to shorten the dress. The dress seemed too long. I needed it to be shorter on public transport and when walking to be sure of not tripping over. I also wanted to avoid getting the hem dirty.  The scarf pattern matches only one side of the dress, although the colour matches both sides. The scarf matches this side which is my favourite.  If I were making a reversible dress, I would make a reversible scarf from the same two dress fabrics sewn back to back. Would that make it too heavy? I can try out this idea, by pinning together two similar scarves and check the effect. I used to look on eBay for reversible dresses. The Cape The cape was listed as a cape coat on Shein, a successful selling online Chinese fun fashion business. It is...

Clogs like Crocs with holes - Swimming Pool shoes - the colours, sizes and when and where you can wear them

Image
On ebay and Amazon. The brand leader are Crocs. I have a second hand pair of Crocs in yellow. The real deal - Crocs. You can wear the strap at the front or at the back. It rotates on a circular fixing. The Yellow Sandals In this picture I have matched up the yellow shoes with a yellow swimming ring. I found them abandoned. I washed them off. Because they were dirty. And somebody else had worn them. This was before Covid-19. For several months I did not wear them. They looked big and clonky. Then my other shoes were wet. So I tried them on. The Crocs soon became a regular alternative shoe, until they became my everyday shoes. I wear my yellow shoes all day indoors around the home. The shoes, or rather, sandals, look rather clompy with smart clothes. However, they are comfortable and quick to put on and off for photos or when jumping into the shower to cool down in Singapore. And when you come out of the shower with wet feet. The latest Crocs were on sale at a store in Orchard Road...

How I lost weight and fitted into old clothes : Dress of the day 244: Swimsuit with diagonal stripes, diet

Image
Angela Lansbury, May 2021. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Swimsuit Jantzen (vintage), made in the USA. I love the way the bar across the A looks like a swimmer. I guessed the name Jantzen might be related to sen meaning son and Jan or Jon or John.  I looked it up. The first result I found was Danish, from Jehovah, Hebrew, for God. (Remember the two names for God in biblical times were Ja or Jo letter used in Joseph and Jehovah's witnesses, and El or al, later morphed into Allah. The name Joel combines the two.  The Jantzen company started in the USA in 1916, making knitted garments. The company owners were members of a rowing club. Like levis, the manufacturers were approached by customers. Customers wanted lighter bathing suits so the wearer could swim.  The success of their product, light enough for swimming unimpeded, changed clothing from heavy, loose, all-covering bathing suits to light form-fitting swimsuits. The diving girl became their symbol which changed slightl...
