I have watched several of these videos. They go very fast and quickly move onto the next idea. I already knew about using clear nail varnish to seal the end of a ladder in tights. (Americans would say a run in your hose.) My favourite of their ideas was cutting a pair of men's underpants to make a woman's sports bra. In England, the British say pants. But to the Americans, pants are what the British call trousers. What the British call pants, the Americans call underpants. After taking the photo, I thought, I could have added seasonal and colour co-ordinated oranges. But that was not necessary as I already had my watering can which was orange. The Skirt Was Needed I wanted a new outfit, a new skirt to go with all my odd tops. I found a pair of pyjama bottoms, very lightweight fabric, wide legs, and no pockets to interfere with the design.  I considered leaving them as pyjama bottoms. I tried them on. A little tight over the crotch. That decided it. They had to be cut and converted into a skirt. How To Cut Pyjamas Having done this several times before, I knew what to do. Grab a pair of pinking shears. If you don't have any, just any pair of scissors.. Cut up the inside leg seam to the crotch and down again the other leg. If you have any hanging threads, cut them off, or pull them out.  Put on the new skirt. Pull it around so the slits are at the sides. Conceal the Slit Sides You can now conceal the slit sides. Fake Flowers I found these flowers discarded on the large litter bin. Americans use the term, dumpster diving. The words you want when searching websites for flowers include: artificial, decor, decorative vase, fake, floor standing, marigold, silk, simulation, sunflower, sunshine, umbrella stand, wedding, yellow rose. Vases and Umbrella Stands Afterwards comes the question, where do we put the flowers? All our vases were too short. The answer is in an umbrella stand. If you want umbrella stands there are some fabulous designs with umbrellas on them at fabulous prices. After saving the pictures on my Pinterest, under Dress of the Day, I discovered the astronomical prices. When I was a student in London, England, I used to like wearing a skirt in Black Watch tartan. After I married, I used to go every year to a  Burns Night, January 25, is celebrated in Scotland and by my Scottish neighbour in London, England.  This year, when I told Singaporean and Malay members of a Singapore-based Toastmasters Club that January 25th was Burns Night, celebrating Robbie, Burns, they asked, 'Who's that?' I replied, "The man who wrote the words of Auld Lang Syne, which is sung worldwide on New Year's Eve." In Singapore, New Year's eve is long gone and they are now busy with Chinese New Year, or the lunar year. The Singaporean's have a word, Kiasu, which means trying to get ahead of other people as well as the fear of missing out. The Shirt The shirt labels say: AMERICAN ROSE ELY (registered) Championship collection since 1878 size 10  65% polyester 35 % cotton  Made in Korea  Six snaps are on the placket, with a flat pearly button with four buttonholes at the collar. Two snaps are on each cuff. The embroidery depicts two roses, two rosebuds in red, and nine green leaves on a green stem, A wavy v shape line outlines an imaginary yoke - no apparent fabric join on the back. However, on checking carefully, I found the yoke area is double thickness, to the embroidered part must be added on top of the solid base. The snaps are a silvery metal. I must confess this project did not go as well as I had hoped. First the good news. The project started well. Slitting the seams was straight forward. Some ends of the stitching were tough, well sewn. I had to admire the manufacturer for sewing down such thick fabric.  What size of sewing needle were they using! An industrial machine, no doubt. The thread and seams were very secure at the knee and crotch. No fear of your shorts pulling apart and sliding down.  Waist Size More good news. Despite the shorts being too tight for my husband, the waist fitted me perfectly, no need to tighten nor loosen it, nor move the pretty button.  Horizontal Patterns I rotated the resulting skirt, as you can see in this picture, to get the gaps at the sides instead of the back and the front. However, the result is that the pattern is slightly slanted.  I asked my husband what he thought.   Dress of the day 331. Photo by Trevor Sharot. I slit the shorts from the crotch to both knee hems. The turn-up was large, so I let it down to make a longer skirt. The Green Top By Ralph Lauren The man's top was long. I did not like the casual sporty neck with a skirt. So I added a dickey or false shirt front with a collar in  plain white which matched the plain white pattern. Navy blue, or white, would also have been good combination colours. The label is Polo by Ralph Lauren. Size medium. Feel very hot in Singapore, especially when worn under a belted skirt or shorts, instead of hanging loose on top. The Polo Player Logo The logo is tiny, a polo player on horseback, astride a galloping horse. The rider has his stick raised above his head prior to striking the invisible ball. The logo is dark orange. If I had realized that, I would have worn my orange Crocs. Size Medium. It can be reversed to white.  The label says Washable YARN. Blue again Reversed to white - looks like a cream colour cravat! I could now spend hours finding white clothes which look cream.
