Vest with built-in bra from Amazon. Dress of the Day 823 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I love the red. I love my purchase. I admit it doesn't really give me a lot of uplift. When It arrived, I thought, this is a larger size girth, but not a bigger cup. So my breasts push together and create a cleavage. However, it feels very comfortable.  It fulfils three functions. Firstly, no painful straps on my shoulders.  Secondly, no bra straps showing outside the vest and top. Nor slipping off.  Thirdly, time saving. No deciding which colour bra goes with which vest. Only one garment, not two. It comes down to the top of my legs. Could hide my floppy tunny from pregnancy years ago and being overweight. If it stayed down and did not ride up.  How to secure it? I tried wearing it under a half slip, over a half slip, and under high knickers. The same seller has black white and various colours. Another seller offered wine colour. You can get them a pounds or two cheaper from another supplier if you don't mind a spaghetti strap. I wore it as a summer top with a...

Long white maxi dress and blue cardigan from LV Clothing, not LV Supply, nor LV. Dress of the Day 822 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I bought this through E-bay. What is not apparent in my picture and was not apparent to me from the picture on the website is that the flower has a faint painted teal or dark turquoise background with a scattering of embossed glinting small silver circles. Accessories - Shoes Brand Sport I had thought of wearing white shoes to co-ordinate with the dress. But bright whites make other whites look dirty. If you can get the right match, that looks clean and summery for summer. I am wearing pink synthetic, wide-tied clogs, a bit like Crocs, brand name Sport, in size 38. They have a band which goes forward, for easy access and makes them full size. When the band is pulled backwards the footwear is slightly smaller and fits more securely, with your feet not slipping about. Socks Or Insoles?  I could wear them with socks. On this occasion, I dressed in a hurry to go out, so I am wearing them with fabric insoles. The insoles fit securely, unlike in normal flat sandals, because the Spor...

How I Restored A Tarnished Ring With Nail Varnish. Post 821 in Dress of The Day by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I found an old ring which was tarnished. I wondered what kind of paint I could use on metal which would not be dangerous against my skin. I was in the bathroom and glanced around. Nail varnish. That must be safer on skin than other paints. My first coat of nail varnish created a dark, browny red.  But I added a second coat of nail varnish, the effect was bright red. https://nailicy.com/article/how-to-paint-rings-with-clear-nail-polish

Kipling Bags, small size, matching your phone. Dress of the Day 820 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
Kipling bag in lilac with matching phone. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. Kipling bag in lilac with many pockets. matching phone cover. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. Kipling Bag in Lilac  My friend Sandra showed me her Kipling bag in lilac colour, bought from a charity shop. Her daughter bought her a phone cover in lilac, one of the mother's two favourite colours which are turquoise and lilac. The lilac Kipling bag had magnetic closure to the pocket. Also a tiny monkey hanging from it as decoration. Kipling bags, as you might guess, were inspired by Rudyard Kipling's jungle book. The bags are decorated with a key ring with an attached monkey motif, usually in fabric of the same colour as the bag, or in metal. Small Kipling Bag In Red and Black Sandra gave me another Kipling bag which was small, but too heavy for her to carry in comfort. (Although the company website says they started when the three founders found a lightweight crinkle fabric.)  The bag my friend ga...

The Orange Dress and Matching Jacket. Dress of the Day 818 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I have several of these sets of dresses and jacket. I wore them in the evening to dinner in hotels on holiday. Orange Dress and Jacket I bought this on E-bay. The label says Made In China, but not the manufacturer not the retail supplier.  Shein has a huge selection of dress and jacket sets. So does Temu. I found a few on ebay. The size is XXL 95% polyester and 5% elastane, the usual mixture for a synthetic fabric with some stretch.. The Orange Necklace The orange necklace was bought in the Canary Islands, on Tenerife, at Bodegas Monje, which has a large shop full of goodies. Pink, Parigi Dress & Jacket. Too Small - Solutions. Dress of the Day 817 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I was looking for dress and jacket sets on Ebay. (As well as Temu and Shein.) I ended up with three outfits like the ones I already had from Temu and Shein. Plus a Parigi pair. The Parigi Name The Parigi label on the inside neck of the jacket says Florence, New York, London. The name Parigi is Italian for Paris. It is a family name indicating that the ancestor originally came from Paris. Parigi - Polyester - Small Part Silk Satin The label said 100% polyester. A designer label, and polyester? Well, Jacques Vert and Anthony Sicari use synthetic fabrics, which don't crease, so they look smart, enhanced by heady colours, elaborate embellishments or embroidery, soft edged necklines, fancy fabric-covered buttons. The opposite surprise is the 100% silk satin trim. Satin is silky one side and smooth the other side. The edging to the top of the dress has the silk satin trim, and the pendant design in the middle of the neckline. The Perfect Pink Colour I bought that outfit for two reasons,...

Big Bright Green Blouse from H & M Teamed with a Multicolour Malaysian Skirt. Dress of the day 816 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
House outfit. Dressed to answer the door to deliveries. The house temperature is 24 degrees so I wanted something loose and cool. The Big Blouse In Bright Green From H &M of Sweden Bought in London Label XXL. I tried wearing it with a red belt to make it tighter, but that drew attention to my sagging bust, not lifted by a proper bra. No time to change the bra. Ditch the belt. Teeny Green Buttons Tiny matching bright green buttons, with four holes. Eight down the front. Two on each cuff. Plus one on each sleeve slit up from the cuff. Plus two spares. Total  14. The Malaysian Skirt Colour and Pattern The skirt is bright green, orange and yellow. It must have been too long for me, because I have cut the hem with pinking shears. The colour is gorgeous, but a bit overwhelming. However, when mostly hidden by the long blouse, it looks just right. A perfect match. Where did I buy the skirt? Either in Singapore, or on a day trip or weekend away in neighbouring Malaysia. Storage So...

Phase Eight Dress In Dark Pink, How I enhanced It. Dress of the day number 815 by Angela Lansbury

Image
Phase Eight Today I received my dress and matching jacket from an Evri delivery driver. I took it out to show it to her. She immediately recognized the label. Phase Eight. She said, 'They used to be from Debenhams'.  The Phase Eight website tells me they are a British company. I looked at the dress style, fabric and manufacturer and washing instruction labels. The Pink Dress Information Made in China.  Size 14.  The colour is deep pink.  Silk Surprise To my surprise, it said silk. Not 100% silk. I remember when I was a teenager in the Nineteen Sixties, anything not one hundred per cent silk was regarded as a con, a cheap imitation.  Nowadays, in 2026, fifty years later, even a tiny amount of silk seems like luxury. A privilege. A joy. The lining is acetate. Inspection Feels very soft. It has a side zip. The zip is longer than the part which the manufacturer has allowed to open. The pattern is black and red flowers and leaves. Two shades of red, darker mat...

Phase Eight Dress and Jacket - Delivered by Evri Driver Who Buys Bargain Clothes. Dress of the day 814 chosen by Angela Lansbury.

Phase Eight Today I received my dress and matching jacket from an Evri delivery driver. I took it out to show it to her. She immediately recognized the label. Phase Eight. She said, 'They used to be from Debenhams'.  The Pink Dress Made in China. Feels very soft. Size 14.  The lining is acetate. The colour is deep pink.  It has a side zip. The zip is longer than the part which the manufacturer has allowed to open. The pattern is black and red flowers and leaves. Two shades of red, darker matt and lighter shiny. The skirt part is fold over like the top.  Unnervingly, the shoulders are just the very thin, delicate top layer without any lining. Will they eventually tear through? The more I look at it, the more I like it. What a pity I don't have the slim figure to do justice to it. Neve mind, it makes me feel happy. The Black Jacket With Pink Petal Edging The jacket has a hook and eye which holds it in place. So it covers the cleavage.  The main part is plain black...

The Joy Of A Useful Sewing Box . Dress Post 810 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
Photo by Angela Lansbury .  What is the most useful thing in this sewing box? The first thing I need when I need to sew is number one. 1The self-threading needle. Or, 2 The metallic needle threader. But, before I start sewing, sometimes I need  3 A seam ripper but I can sometimes make do with 4 Small sharp pointed scissors. No point in having a needle with no cotton.  5 Black and white spools of cotton are most useful. Needed most often. 6 The other spools of colours of cotton thread are handy. 7 Smaller to pack on holiday, and useful for those hard to find colour,  the plait (Americans say braid) of mixed colour cottons, already cut to useful lengths. -ends- Please follow my blogs on blogspot  travelwithangelaLansbury dressofthedaywithangela Share links about posts on food and drkink with your friends. Recycle one piece baby outfit into 3 items for wrists, soft toys and puppets. Dress 809 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
I saw a cute white baby one piece outfit. The overall effect was clean white, but with five-point, pale pink stars. My discovery, my find, was in the baby clothes basket at St Luke's shop in London.  The cost was only 50p per item, or three for a pound. Potential Spare Zip I don’t have a baby. My grand-daughter is already at school. But the garment had a long white zip. Do you know the price of zips! I bought it, intending to cut out and eventually to re-use the zip. When I reached home, Before I could change my mind, I grabbed a pair of scissors. I planned to cut out the zip. I had a problem. The zip ran most of the way down one of the legs. Cutting Off Baby Garment Sleeves To make it easier to handle, I cut off the sleeves. I was left with two small tubes, wider at one end. I rested my arm on the table over one piece. It was the same width as my small wrist. Let's try to see if they fit. Adult Wrist Covers To my surprise, they fitted over my wrists.  A tight fit. But t...

How To Add Straps to Caps, Such As A Daiso Cap. Dress 808 by Angela Lansbury.

Image
White cap with sewn on straps. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Why did my cap need straps?  1 It kept falling off. When I looked down. Or when the wind blew. I worried about losing it, leaving it behind on a train. 2 It twisted sideways, looking odd in photos. What should I add? White ribbons? No. They would get dirty quickly, with all the handling.  I sewed pink straps on this white cap. What kind of straps could I add. I hunted in my stache of ribbons. I found what I wanted. The pink in the straps echoed the pink motif. The pink ribbon fabric is matt, matching the hat fabric's look.  The pink ribbon is narrow. But wide enough.  White cap with added red bow. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. The White Cap From Daiso I added wide black ribbon straps to a white cap. The black ribbon is wide. The White Cap (Baseball cap style) The white cap is from Daiso in Singapore. The Japanese chain. One of my favourite cut price chains. Light weight cap, easy to stow in a pocket. But...

Why Wear Pants (trousers) in summer? Dress of the Day 804 Macjay pants paired with a Primark rainbow stripe blouse.

Image
Insect Bites Problem  I was bitten twice by insects, once on each leg. I was not outdoors, but sitting at my desk. Anti insect spray, and insect repellent, had not protected me. Insect Bite Prevention The solution was to wear long trousers (Americans say pants). I looked in my pile of summer wear and found a pair of long, green, leg coverings. The Green Stretchy Trousers (Pants) The brand label was MACJAYS. Made in New Zealand. I must have bought them second hand from an op shop on holiday in New Zealand. They were size 14. A bit tight.  Deep Cuffs The cuffs were turned up. I tried to turn down the cuffs. they were sewn up both sides. One of them had become detached on one side. I cut the other one to match. That way I could pull them down, diagonally, or up. Macjays has stockists in New Zealand and Australia. For and Against Woman Wearing Trousers (Pants) For Wearing Trousers I used to wear trousers (long pants) when I was in my twenties. It saved the cost of buying tights (A...
