Why Wear Pants (trousers) in summer?



Insect Bites Problem

 I was bitten twice by insects, once on each leg. I was not outdoors, but sitting at my desk. Anti insect spray, and insect repellent, had not protected me.

Insect Bite Prevention

The solution was to wear long trousers (Americans say pants).

I looked in my pile of summer wear and found a pair of long, green, leg coverings.

The Green Stretchy Trousers (Pants)

The brand label was macKay. Made in New Zealand. I must have bought them second hand from an op shop on holiday in New Zealand.

They were size 14. A bit tight. 

Deep Cuffs

The cuffs were turned up. I tried to turn down the cuffs. they were sewn up both sides. One of them had become detached on one side. I cut the other one to match. That way I could pull them down, diagonally, or up.

I used to wear trousers (long pants) when I was in my twenties. It saved the cost of buying tights (Americans say hose). Trousers saved the time wasted taking off tights which had ladders (Americans say a run) or split down the seams. 

Trousers felt secure. More elegant, neat. No need to worry about shaving legs. Or showing your underwear when climbing stairs on buses or spiral staircases.

Against Wearing Trousers

After I married I stopped wearing them because my husband said he thought it looked more feminine for a women to wear a dress or skirt.

Only recently, when I asked him about this, and why, he told me, he liked dresses and skirts when you are out. At home, trousers would be okay. 

So all those trousers I had not worn for years could come out again. A whole new wardrobe. Except that most of them were too small.

Two Solutions To Too Small Trousers

1 Alter them all.

2 Buy more, in larger sizes, at bargain and discount shops.

Jump suits

You can also call them play suits. Or lounge or leisure wear.

The modern fashion in 2026 is twofold.

1 Either one piece onesies.

2  Or matching sets with wrap tops.

Both have wide flared sleeves, and wide trouser cuffs. And bright colours.

What would go with it? It might be hard to find the right shade of green.

However, right by the green trousers was a multi colour blouse containing green. Perfect. 

Matching.

Bright and jolly.

Very classy. Who made it? Primark! 

Primark

Primark are known for selling affordable, cheap clothes. Budget people. 

Look at the garment again for signs of being made on the cheap.

1 No pockets.

2 Small buttons. Eight of them, but small. Six down the front. One on each cuff. Total eight.

 In co-ordinating orange.

3 A short top. Less fabric used.

Advantages of Multi-Colour Tops

The multi colour top has three advantages.

1 It looks jolly. And interesting, attention getting.

2 it co-ordinates with lots of other items.

3 Other items like my green trousers are rescued from their solitary, sad existence, brought out into the joy and pride of a co-ordinating set.

Stripey Red & White Socks, thigh high, and tights - outfit 679 by Angela Lansbury

  I bought a pair of knee high red and white stripe socks in St Luke's charity shop. At one pound or under, you can't lose much. (Their charity fundraising shops are in NW London in Hatch End, Harrow Weald and elsewhere.) Why did I buy the long socks, in hard to match, garish, childish, stripes - after hesitation and consideration? The Advantages Of Long Socks The  length was attractive, at this time of year. I often need long socks under a midi skirt. For warmth in winter. And not to show bit of bare legs above socks. To co-ordinate colours. Advantages and Disadvantages of Red and White Stripes I like red. It's fun. White can show dirt quickly.  Red and white is a bit restrictive. It will clash with patterns, only go with plain reds and whites. But under a table at dinner or on Zoom nobody else will notice. Nor will I. I will only feel them.
