Black sequin hat. Photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright.   Black sequin hat from Atmosphere. Atmosphere is the label of clothing and accessories from Primark. Primark sells affordable clothing.  The black sequin hat was elasticated. The elastic had gone. I pinned it in two places at the front. I pinned on the opposite side to the label which was sewn into a seam. Then I sewed a tuck, using black cotton. A quick job. I didn't want it too tight. That would be uncomfortable. Distracting. Might give me a headache. Or make me take it off. Was it tight enough? A good test is to lean forward and see whether the hat falls off your head.  What to wear it with? It is a summer blouse, short sleeves, white background. But the black and red pattern means you can wear it with black skirts and shoes and accessories. Sleeves The ...

New Years Eve, Sequin top and Chinese jacket with sequins. Dress of the night number 312

Image
Angela, wearing a gold colour sequin top, and cream jacket with small sequins. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Sequins seems suitable for New Year's Eve.  The Top The top is labelled atmosphere, which is a Primark brand. Size 16/44. The sequins are on the front. I found a similar vest tank top on Amazon in blue for only about ten Singapore dollars eighty six plus delivery. I saved it to Pinterest. The Jacket The jacket style is very smart. A wide stand up collar. Wide cuffs. The fabric has a gold thread.  On both sides of the collar and on each of the two cuffs are three five petal roses, with spirals of stand up satin ribbon surrounded by sequins. Six Chinese knot closures, each fastened by a loop of ribbon, are down the front. A placket ensures no gap. Both cuffs are fastened with similar Chinese knots.   The Jacket label is ROSEs. XXL. Made in China. Possibly from Mustafa's in Singapore, where I have spent hours trying on different colours and styles and sizes of C...

Clothing Company Names, Labels and Brands

Image
I used to wonder why a company would choose a different brand name. Surely, if you buy from Marks & Spencer, or Sainsbury's, or Primark, that label tells you enough. Then I found out why they change brand names.  Some of these companies sell worldwide, although you might find more stores in their home country.  Update July 24 2023 Not only to they have different names for clothes for men, women, and children, sometimes for teens, for classic and modern, for businesslike and for sexy/disco wear, for luxury three piece lined clothes with double stitching and spare buttons for mother of the brides which are dry clean only, and for skimpy, light crop tops you can wash in a machine or wash by hand. For example Asda - George H & M (Swedish) Levi Strauss & Co - Levis (started in the USA) Mango - Violeta, Mango Teen (Spanish, in Turkey and worldwide) Morrison's - Nutmeg (UK) Next - F & F Primark - Atmosphere Sainsbury's - Tu Brands The same company could have dif...

Inside out blue stripe top

Image
Do you have any items of clothing which have different patterns on the inside. (Or linings?) Here's one I found. A picture is worth a thousand words. A picture was more effective in the old days. That was the case when Confucius said it, in an era when most people were illiterate. But this picture shows clearly how I achieved two totally different looks when I took off the top and it was inside out. I looked at it and thought, I wonder how that would look if I wore it inside out? The sewing around the neckline could be hidden by a scarf. If I had the etime and energy i could sew a soft black ribbon over it. Matt edging would create a casual look. Satin ribbon would suit a more glamorous evening look.  A jacket could concel the back of the neck, the shoulder seam and the sleeves. The only giveaway was the white label down the side seam.  Did I need them? Would I wash the garment with the frou frou front by hand anyway in water which was not too hot? I would not use bleac...
