A Pyjama Top Converted Into A blouse: dress of the day 514

Image
I bought a tarten pair of pyjamas in a red and black and white pattern. Label Senza Sleepwear. Angela Lansbury wearing a red, white and black pyjama set by label Senza. Then I bought a similar patterned shirt by label Shein.  Angela Lansbury wearing the Shein shirt. Why buy another garment so similar? Well, one was pyjamas, the other a shirt, or blouse. One day I was rushing to an appointment when I accidentally put on the pyjama top instead of the blouse!  They looked so similar, I don't suppose anybody noticed. I had a jacket on top most of the day. I felt happy.  The only difference was that the pyjama top had an open neck.  It looked so similar that I don't think anybody except me would have known the difference. The pyjama top felt and looked better. It is in a soft fabric, loose and comfortable.  It goes with a black skirt, a perfect match. It is an alternative to wear if I am washing the shirt by hand overnight and it is not yet dry next morning.. In fact...

Red Dress of the day 386 with Angela - and amaizng double buttons blouse

Image
Angela Lansbury the author wearing a red reversible dress 386. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The Red Dress The red dress is reversible. When I first had it, in summer, I wore it sleeveless. I wore only the patterned side because the plain side was boring and showed creases. Now that it is autumn I am wearing a co-ordinating blouse with a pattern, so I am wearing the plain red so as not to have two crowded and clashing patterns.  I cannot find any label inside the dress. I have several of these reversible dresses. They are useful for light and tight packing and travelling for a trip of only one week or fewer days.  I once wore three reversible dressed on a train journey from London to Wales for the long weekend. I had just one wheel-along bag containing my heavy books and a spare pair of shoes for day and evening. This reversible dress has one unusual feature. The side seams are split up to knee height for easy walking. That also looks sexy and seductive.  Under Slip To f...

What to wear for a funeral? A black funeral coat from Marks & Spencers Outfit 291

Image
Angela Lansbury, wearing black for the funeral and funeral tea for Stephen Kennard. Photo by Angela Lansbury. This week I went to a funeral. I wore black.  Everybody else wore all black. The invitation said nothing about the dress code.  I know lots of funerals nowadays people were mixed colours. Some specify wearing jolly colours. My friend at the funeral told me, "Always wer black. Unles it specifies otherwise, the rule is, wear black." I had my usual blue anorak with the hood with me. I left it in the car. In the boot of the car, in case anybody broke into the car hoping to find money in the pockets or because they wanted a coat to wear or sell. The safest thing is to leave a completely empty car. At least everything in the boot so the car looks empty. I could have kept the blue anorak in my black tote bag. As soon as we drove into the chapel driveway, I looked at the other guests and their clothes. I saw all black. Off came my blue anorak. Thank goodness I had a black coa...

Xmas Outfits in 2023 And Vintage From Tesco, outfits 254

Image
Harrovians toastmasters club. This year I went to Harrovians. The two leaders of the meeting, husband and wife, were in matching jumpers. I thought that was very effective. I then received a notice from the sister club of which I am also a member. Time for me to get out my Xmas outfit. Years ago I would not have bought a seasonal outfit. I thought it was a waste of money to buy seasonal items which you only wear once to a party. Too twee.  Might offend non-Christian friends. Then, one year I saw one in a sale.  Now, when asked to dress in Xmas theme, I can oblige.  In theory I should keep it in a suitcase up in the attic or an outroom such as a store room, maid's room, scullery/utility room.  The suitcase would be labelled Xmas with a all the decorations.  However, I tend to keep most things out. This works well if you want to find it in a hurry. I did. iwent to my cupborad of thick woolly jumpers and found it immeditely on the top of the pile. Xmas jumper Backg...

Jacques Vert Blouse In Blue And White: Dress of the Day 780

Image
Angela Lansbury wearing a blue and white blouse by Jacques Vert. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Copyright. Where From My policy, as I promoted it on a speech to Agora, to shop in my own home, browse in the wardrobe and the spare room. Rescue my own clothes.  Move clothes around to alarm the clothes moths. Discourage them from feeding baby moths on my precious clothes.   Jacques Vert translates as Jack Green. The French name sounds much more glamorous to English speakers. The name is not from one man called Jack Green, but from two tailors, one whose first name was Jack, and the other whose surname was Green. (See Wikipedia for the full story, simplified and verified.) The item I am wearing is vintage. Made in England. 100% polyester. Wash on 30 degrees centigrade. Size 10. Short spin. Do not wring. The Style The style is interesting. The double bodice resembles the front of a cape blazer, but without the cape effect at the back and without the slit sleeves.  The back and ...

Jewellery - Pendant I am wearing a pendant with a reversible centre. It has two sides, one with a small dark red stone in the centre, the other with a small blue stone. I am wearing the red side outwards. The Skirt The skirt is from Patra in the UK. Not to be confused with another company in the USA. It is silk and feels soft. Add A Touch Of Colour From The Collar - orange, black and white dress of the day 557

Image
Orange collar adds colour. Photo by Angela Lansbury. I was looking for something warm to wear in London. The clothes I wear in London are different to what I wear in Singapore. I started with a black knitted cardigan which had two long collar tails, which I looped into a tie. Underneath I wore a warm, white jumper.  I needed neck interest for appearing in photos and on Zoom at meetings of Toastmasters International. In London, UK, Harrovians club meets online on a Monday, in person at a church on another Monday. So I added the orange blouse. Just the collar showed. I did not need more. That was fine. The collar added colour, warm colour, vivid, transforming me from dull to vivacious, and framed my face. Pink Eyelet (Broderie anglaise) outfit, dress of the day 422

Photo by Trevor Sharot. The Pink Top Pink eyelet sleeveless top from eBay,  Papaya, size 8. Lined, Tiny pink button fastens small same fabric loop, in keyhole upright oval opening at back of neck. Diagonal bust darts. Made in India. Spare small button on the washing label. Plain fabric without eyelets at the back. The lining finishes a few inches above the scalloped hem to create the see through holes. Matalan Retail Ltd.  Wrap skirt I wore it with the corners tied in a double knot. The resulting diagonal draping at the side is a bit bulky and would stick out under a long jacket or thin, summer raincoat. Knotting works only on a thin fabric.  Pink tape ties (known as red tape) should be added with safety pins or a brooch, for a quick trip to the shops, later sewn on. From a pink scarf. Dark turquoise, silky feel, shiny satin-look edging. Made in India. 100% cotton. Label brand Boden. Possibly bought from a charity shop in the UK. Worn over a half slip in case it comes apa...

Dress of the Day 285, Green and pink with Rainbow Ribbon. blouse styles, ribbon lengths and widths

Image
Dress of the Day 285. Green and pink with rainbow ribbon. Selfie photo by Angela Lansbury. Blouse Collar Styles I like contrast colour collars and cuffs. Lively. Smart. The Blouse's Cut Label The label on the blouse has been cut to disguise the maker's name. This is done by the maker when the garment is a reject or last year's fashion being sold off cheaply. The label is cut to prevent the buyer of reduced price goods reselling it at the full price or a reduced price) and another customer thinking they are getting current year's top quality goods when the item is not perfect and up to date. If you like vintage clothes, and cheap prices, that doesn't matter. But if you are hunting for more goods made under the same label it is frustrating. The Ribbon I bought the narrow, silky, rainbow ribbon from Daiso in Plaza Singapura in Singapore. Daiso has branches all over the world. I know the price. Two dollars. Everything was the same price in some branches of Daiso - two...

Beautiful Blue, Calming Blue. Royal Blue by you. Dress of the day 154. Blue blob blouse. blue cardigan. blue skirt.

Image
The blue blob pattern blouse is by Canda label of C & A department store. Photo by Trevor Sharot. Blue is said to be a calming colour. Blue also looks good with blue eyes and vivid royal blue suits my skin tone. Blue, the colour of blue seas, reflecting bright blue skies on a summer day. Royal blue, rich blue. An opulent colour. The blouse label says it comes from C & A. Goodness. I went to C and A with my mother when I was a teenager. Is C and A still around? Apparently, yes. C & A C and A department stores started as a textile company in the Netherlands in Sneek. The letters C and A come from the initials of the founders, brothers Clemens and August.  I loved them when I was single and in the UK because they had small size clothes which were sophisticated, and affordable. Their stores spread all over Europe, to China, Mexico and two south American countries. The blue blouse The blouse is 100% polyester, easy to clean and crease-free. Made in Korea. It is a summ...
