Anthony Sicari Tunic top in black with brown and yellow - or a short dress? Dress of the day number 384. by Angela Lansbury

Seller's ebay photo.  I ordered this from ebay. I usually go for the three-piece Anthony Sicari outfits.  Why go for three pieces matching? They make me look smart, elegant, co-ordinated, a top with wide shoulders, which was even more important when I was size 16, on a good day, in 2020, before I started slimming for health and safety during Covid,  I wroe it with  double closure sandals. Made in Hungary. Their colour is pale brown. How lon would it be on me? Not long enough for a dress. A flmsy skirt on a teenager could be that short. But not a warm, thick, autumn or winter gamrent. On the other hand, a dramaatic neckline draws attention to tbe wwearer from a distance, on stage. Also in a photo. Useful Websites ebay

Close up of neckline embroidery. Selfie photo by Angela Lansbury. Copyright. The Blue Tunic Three Piece Set The tunic is a kurta. The style worn in India and the Middle East. Because a kurta a slit up both sides to the waist it is usually worn with a matching or plainer pant (trouser), usually the fabric without the glossy embroidery. A floor length or ankle length skirt uses a lot of fabric. That raises he cost. So I was very pleased wih y bargain. Oddly, the colour is much brighter blue in sunlight. In the evening I looked at the pale blue under elecric light and it seemed rather epis and wishy washy. However, I decided tha because I have blue eyes, alhough it was not royal blue which maches my skin colour, it might prove a success. I was more the pleased with the resul. If I have no worn the trousers at all af...

Dress 366 Indian Tunic (called kurta) and scarf, sequinned, worn three ways.

Angela Lansbury in beige and burgundy kurta outfit. Photo by Trevor Sharot.   The scarf is long and thin. Gossamer. Chiffon? Floaty. Photo by Trevor Sharot. The scarf needs pinning. Otherwise it slips off one shoulder and falls to the ground. Photo by Trevor Sharot. I bought this dress second-hand for five pounds from North Harrow Library. The library sells books at the front of the library to raise funds to keep the library open.  For the first time they had Indian-style outfits on sale. This type of outfit has three pieces.  The Tunic The long, kurta or tunic, is ankle length on me. The skirt has slit sides. The top fabric is lined with a plain colour. The Trousers For trousers Americans say pants. The slit sides I imagine are one reason why it the outfit includes the pants. The pants are baggy with a  drawstring waist. The fabric is light and thin.  They are pulled in at the ankle. The trousers are a plain buff or beige colour. The Scarf The scarf is very lon...

DIY Outfit, matching shorts from a t-shirt, or a tunic dress from a table runner, post 437

Are you short of summer outfits? Do you have a pair of shorts with a stained front, or a tee shirt with a stained sleeve? A great idea for re-using an unwanted or unworn t--shirt. Cut off the arms to make a tank top. Use the spare fabric from the arms to make two circular or oval designs, such as leaves for the below the waist garment. Sew your double patterns neatly by hand or machine onto a pair of shorts, as they suggest. Alternatively sew onto a skirt, or even a plain dress.  I would use the arm pieces to make pockets. You could have two front square or semi-circular pockets on shorts or a skirt. Or side pockets. The neatly seamed armhole hem could be made into a hairband, or the front or link piece of a belt made with a long piece of ribbon or a doubled ribbon, with or without interfacing. (Interfacing is a stiffening liner used on jackets and hems and belts.  Security Use the spare fabric for a bag for your phone. Make a pocket on a lanyard to hold a phone. We...

Dress 283, How to make a top from a sari - Something New, Blue, Sari

Image
Angela Lansbury in a blue outfit made from a sari. Selfie. Photo credit Angela Lansbury. Waist tied with ribbon. Dark blue chiffon sari with coloured border in red and brown. Photo credit. Angela Lansbury. The wedding day saying is something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue. Here is something old make into something new, and it is blue. You can borrow my idea. The top picture shows the sari top worm over a patterned caftan. This does not work well, because the roses on the green caftan show through. Since the sari has a straight or lined edge, now close to the underlying pattern, this confuses the eye and brain. A better choice would be blue, red, brown, white or black.   How long is a saree length? Wikipedia says 15 to 30 feet long. However Quora says much less, about six feet to nine. I must measure mine. I remember going into an indian dress and fabric shop in Little India in Singapore. I fancied the sari in the window. The price was outrageous!...
