Kipling Bag in Lilac

 My friend Sandra showed me her Kipling bag in lilac colour, bought from a charity shop. Her daughter bought her a phone cover in lilac, one of the mother's two favourite colours which are turquoise and lilac.

The lilac Kipling bag had magnetic closure to the pocket. Also a tiny monkey hanging from it as decoration.

Kipling bags, as you might guess, were inspired by Rudyard Kipling's jungle book. The bags are decorated with a key ring with an attached monkey motif, usually in fabric of the same colour as the bag, or in metal.

Small Kipling Bag In Red and Black



Sandra gave me another Kipling bag which was small, but too heavy for her to carry in comfort. (Although the company website says they started when the three founders found a lightweight crinkle fabric.)

 The bag my friend gave me was in my favourite colours, red and black. The bags come in a wide range of colurs, including silver and gold. Their outlet website lets you pick bags in your favourite colour. (So does Ebay.)

I later realised that my phone cover and lanyard in red matched the bag.


This looks most impressive if you keep your phone hidden inside the bag when traveling.  Then when meeting and seated with friends and family you take out of your bag the matching phone cover.

Monkey Motif

If you get a bag without a monkey, like mine, you can find monkeys on ebay. My search for Kipling monkey keyring produced more than 5,000 results. 

The label inside has the monkey motif. The same motif is on the front of the bag. One website I looked at offered a two year guarantee.

Product Range

They have a large number of handy small cross body or body bags. Also small cosmetic bags, purses, and phone  bags. Large bags include totes and shoulder bags, duffle bags. And four wheeled luggage, including top of the range costing up to over 100 pounds. 

On ebay you can find bags starting at under twenty pounds, and many more if you are intent on a particular colour or size regardless of price.

Stripey Red & White Socks, thigh high, and tights - outfit 679 by Angela Lansbury

  I bought a pair of knee high red and white stripe socks in St Luke's charity shop. At one pound or under, you can't lose much. (Their charity fundraising shops are in NW London in Hatch End, Harrow Weald and elsewhere.) Why did I buy the long socks, in hard to match, garish, childish, stripes - after hesitation and consideration? The Advantages Of Long Socks The  length was attractive, at this time of year. I often need long socks under a midi skirt. For warmth in winter. And not to show bit of bare legs above socks. To co-ordinate colours. Advantages and Disadvantages of Red and White Stripes I like red. It's fun. White can show dirt quickly.  Red and white is a bit restrictive.
