How To Add Straps to Caps, Such As A Daiso Cap

Why did my cap need straps?
1 It kept falling off. When I looked down. Or when the wind blew. I worried about losing it, leaving it behind on a train.
2 It twisted sideways, looking odd in photos.
What should I add? White ribbons? No. They would get dirty quickly, with all the handling.
I sewed pink straps on this white cap.
What kind of straps could I add. I hunted in my stache of ribbons. I found what I wanted.
The pink in the straps echoed the pink motif. The pink ribbon fabric is matt, matching the hat fabric's look.
The pink ribbon is narrow. But wide enough.

The White Cap From Daiso
I added wide black ribbon straps to a white cap.
The black ribbon is wide.
The White Cap (Baseball cap style)
The white cap is from Daiso in Singapore. The Japanese chain. One of my favourite cut price chains.
Light weight cap, easy to stow in a pocket. But might blow off. I have solved that problem.
Buying Ribbons In Stores And Online
From Amazon currently, in July 2026, you can buy five colours of ribbons in a set. Or 12 colours - of thinner ribbons.
Daiso has stores in many countries, all over Asia, including Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Honk Kong, Taiwan. Down under in Australia and New Zealand. Across the ocean in Canada, and masses in the USA and going south in Brazil. The Philippines. The Middle East, Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Israel.
Just about everywhere except the UK.
In the UK I have bought lots of ribbons on spools from Hobbycraft.
Secrets To Sewing Staps And Ribbons Onto Hats and Caps
Start by selecting the right length needed for two ribbons, right and left. Allow room for a bow to be tied.
Cut that ribbon length in two.
Check the ribbons are in the right place regarding your ears, spectacle sides, the ear-rings you plan to wear.
Check whether the ribbon has two different sides. Select the shiny side facing out. Unless the matt effect of cotton or linen or other fabric matches best.
Select matching colour thread. Tie a knot in the end of the thread.
Thread a needle. I used self threading needles.
Knot the two ends of the thread together.
Used safety pins to pin the two ribbons onto the inner headband roughly between the front centre and back centre.
