The Printed Text Printed On The Tee shirt

The Next tee-shirt on a table top so you can see the design more clearly. The letters spell out MERRY, a word we associate with the Christmas season because of the phrase used in songs. We wish you a merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. God rest ye merry gentleman is in a Christmas carol. The same goodwill message appears on Christmas cards and on greeting cards, Merry Christmas and a happy New Year.

Perhaps that was why I got it reasonably priced. I bought it on Ebay for under ten pounds, despite the fact that it has lovely sequins, seems smart. 

Is it tacky? the annoying way it splits the word merry into ME RR Y. Other Next tee-shirts have the text split up to make a short message or word in large letters fill two columns down the front. On mine the back is plain.

Why I Bought Sequins On The Tee-Shirt

I bought the Next top for the sequins. I had done a search for sequins, starting with low price to high price. I got more sequins on this tee-shirt than I could have bought loose for the same price. Also a sequin patch that large would have cost about the same. In theory I could have taken the sequin part off and used it as a patch on another garment. However, despite having no shop tag attached, the fabric feels both soft yet also the kind of stiffness you get in a brand new garment before you mess it up by even hand washing.

 I do think it is bad marketing to put a Christmas message on a short sleeve top. The pattern is winter, evening wear. Evening is often the coldest time of the day. But this thin cotton tee-shirt has fabric and sleeve length clearly more suitable for wearing in summer.

However, I plan to wear it over a matching, co ordinating red blouse, with a warm jacket. 

Colour Co-ordination

The background is black. The sequins are red. Black can be boring sombre but the red adds a lively touch.

Black is practical. Black does not get visibly dirty so quickly. It might run colour if you wash by hand and hang it over the bath or shower. You can prevent stains by putting a plastid bowl underneath. If a stain is left, later you can remove it using bleach another cleaning agent which is suitable for the surface to which you apply it. 

The Machine Embroidery

The machine embroidery is silver for the v shape glass and contents, four cross shape stars, and six dots. On second look, paying close attention, you notice a red bow .

In February there are lots of Xmas tee shirts and long sleeve tops from Next on Preloved on Ebay. Preloved along has more than 5000 items listed. Sequin tops were for women, men, unisex and children. 

Plain and Patterned Tops

Some Next tops on ebay  had plain backgrounds. Others had stripes. 

The sequin overlay designs included seasonal triangular trees, or reindeer. Lots of topis featured five pointed stars.

Silver Boots From Clarks

The silver boots are vintage. From Clarks. I bought them in a sale at upstairs shop in the two storey Brent Cross Shopping mall.

I lost a button and scraped the toe of one boot. I went back to the shop. They did not do repairs but had the same boot on sale. Too large. But I thought I would take off the buttons from the larger pair to repair the smaller pair. However, I ended up wearing the scuffed pair for daytime or less formal events. I kept the better pair for grander, smarter occasions.

Both pairs were big for me. One was a half size larger. I am a size 5 but my boots are six and six and a half. I can fill the foot part with thick socks. The boots are still tight on the calf and often one or both will not do all the way up.

Red and / or Black Skirts?

I planned to wear the new sequin top with my wonderful silver sequin Marks & Spencer Skirt with the sequin rose embellishments. However, the silver skirt did not match at all well. The silver colour did not co-ordinate. The roses were a distraction and did not match nor echo the cocktail glass in any way.

So, instead, I put on a nice warm black skirt. I needed something warm for going out in the evening. 

The Red Sequin Skirt

The red sequin skirt was from Peacock.

Red Sequin Choker Necklace

I need more red. An accessory. I found a red sequin choker necklace. Mine is vintage and overstretched and does not sit flat. I think I bought it from St Luke's charity shop in Hatch End.

You might like to add one to echo the colour of your garment in the accessory, or to fill in a space at the neck, or to add interest. If you don't have one you can make one. Buy sequin braid. Add closure from a set of findings (jewellery links and bits and bobs) from a craft store or fabric or jewellery supplier.

The Waistcoat With Palm Trees & Parrots From Shein (and straw hat) post 582 from Angela Lansbury

As you might expect  The St Luke's price was £3. I googled waistcoat, Shein, parrot, and the exact sme garment appeared immediately. The Shein model was wearing it over a white crop top with short denim shorts. The price was ten pounds plus three pounds postage. But as a new customer or returning customer (eg after a gap of several weeks not ordering) you might get offered free postage.  I like the fact that the patterns on the right and left mirror each other as if the parrots are about to speak to each other. Stripey Red & White Socks, thigh high, and tights - outfit 679 by Angela Lansbury

  I bought a pair of knee high red and white stripe socks in St Luke's charity shop. At one pound or under, you can't lose much. (Their charity fundraising shops are in NW London in Hatch End, Harrow Weald and elsewhere.) Why did I buy the long socks, in hard to match, garish, childish, stripes - after hesitation and consideration? The Advantages Of Long Socks The  length was attractive, at this time of year. I often need long socks under a midi skirt. For warmth in winter. And not to show bit of bare legs above socks. To co-ordinate colours. Advantages and Disadvantages of Red and White Stripes I like red. It's fun. White can show dirt quickly.  Red and white is a bit restrictive.
