Winter Warmth - from layering

A long winter jacket or coat with a hood is practical for concealing clothes underneath. I opened the front door, was overwhelmed by the cold, and went back inside to add extra layers.

I did this in winter in London, England, in February, for extra warmth.

I wore long socks in red and white stripes for warmth underneath shorter black socks. The black socks hid the red and white and co-ordinated with my trousers (Americans say pants), my black skirt, black and burgundy boots.

Traveling Light

Layering is also good for those who want to travel light, without a heavy bag. 

Also for those who want to take lots of stuff. For example, for an overnight or weekend stay away from home. Or a travel trip on a budget airline which charges for luggage, by weight or volume.  

Travelling On Budget Airlines

A padded coat is already so bulky that nobody would notice if you wore multiple clothes underneath. For my evening out in near zero temperatures, I wore a skirt over trousers, two half slips, two vests, a white blouse, a thick Marks and Spencer knitted long sleeve jumper and an Indigo Moon jacket embroidered with sequins. And a hat consisting of a scarf sewn onto knitted beanie, with a white baseball cap with a brim, held together with three mock-pearl brooches.

Marks & Spencer had a New Year sale rail in their Harrow branch the first two weeks in January. When I went back at the end of January, the item I wanted, and the entire sale rail, had gone. 

However, there is an online sales outlet on Ebay. But they cannot give you details of the items. I bought at a sale price but had to pay more than was asked in the shop. When I phoned, they would not tell me any details about the garment. 

The person on the phone said, ;We have a huge warehouse. We cannot go and check the details of individual items.' 

I wondered why not. Surely, when they sell the item, they can find it. But maybe it is already packed ready for posting off. Maybe its not just the time taken to check. Maybe a fork lift truck just pulls out items by their code.

The Waistcoat With Palm Trees & Parrots From Shein (and straw hat) post 582 from Angela Lansbury

As you might expect  The St Luke's price was £3. I googled waistcoat, Shein, parrot, and the exact sme garment appeared immediately. The Shein model was wearing it over a white crop top with short denim shorts. The price was ten pounds plus three pounds postage. But as a new customer or returning customer (eg after a gap of several weeks not ordering) you might get offered free postage.  I like the fact that the patterns on the right and left mirror each other as if the parrots are about to speak to each other.   The Marks & Spencer Jacket I bougtht the jacket because I wanted a long open ended zip to go on a long wrap around dressing gown without the garment gapping. I bought in a hurry. Only one pound. When I got it home I noticed it had a hood. My first thought was, that's handy, I've been looking online for hoods to add to some jackets and coats. I thought the jacket looked small.  In fact, when I tried it on it hugged me tight like underwear. This was good. It felt like a corset. The tight jacket worn over the too-long skirt, it helped keep the skirt up so that I didn't trip over it. However, my idea of cutting up the jacket went when I saw the label. Marks & Spencer. That's a brand I trust. Properly finished seams. No loose ends. Although one of a multi-pack set of underwear, the waist cotton pulled out.) But outer garments are always strongly made.
