How to repair your shoes, the soles, the heels, and more

At first I was delighted to find these forgotten shoes hidden in a shoe box at the back of the bedroom\s built-in wardrobe. (Americans say closet.)

Green Colours

We disagreed about the correct way to describe the colour. I called the velvet feel, suede effect uppers of the shoes - 'lime'. My husband said they were pistachio. He said a lime on a tree is a dark green.

These shoes heel covering at the side don't have the rope effect which creates a beach and holiday feel. On the other hand the shiny synthetic look goes well with after dinner and evening wear.

So far, so good. However, my joy did not last long.

Gorgeous shoes. I wouldn't mind another pair in another colour. But what brand? JW? I managed to find the shoe box with a label.

 The distributor.

If I manage to find them, they will ask when I bought the shoes. I wish I had pinned or stuck my receipt to the shoe box.

Unfortunately, as soon as I started to walk I heard an ominous tapping sound. The soles and heels became detached.

The underside of the wedge shoes was revealed.

The thin sole was lying on the floor separately. I picked it up and turned it over.

How to stick it back on? We used to buy Shoo Goo in England. For several weeks we had used up our Shoo Goo on various shoes which were detaching themselves in the heat. (We rarely use aircon in Singapore, relying on the breeze and cold showers to keep ourselves cool in the cooler wet winter and spring months.)

Now we find that you can also buy our beloved, vital Shoo Goo around the world, online and in Singapore's supermarkets.
Singapore

Yes, Shoo Goo is also available online in Singapore from Lazada. But also, apparently, from the Singaporean supermarket, budget Fairprice.

Another cheaper brand is available online at $5, but you add on $3.50 postage.

Superglue versus Shoe Goo

Why not use the extra secure glue called superglue? Or Loktite? We save these hardier glues for more solid objects. Why?

1 Because Super Glue it comes in smaller sizes and you need a lot for the soles of shoes.

2 You risk sticking your thumb to your forefinger, or your shoes to the table or spatula.

3 It is more expensive.

4 It may come in two dispensers, so you have to mix two items together, which consumes time to mix, finding and maybe writing off a suitable container, washing out the container, wastage of glue, waiting for the glue to set.

5 You want a flexible glue, otherwise your shoes' soles don't flex but are heavy on your feet and ankles and make a banging noise.

So for shoes and sandals whose soles have sprung apart, we use Shoo Goo.  But even with Shoo goo, you need a spreader. You are likely to be left with goo on your kitchen knife. Wait for the glue to dry and then rub it off. It doesn't stick to metal, says my husband.
