I reversed the top for evening from the busy side to plain brown and added the scrunchie to fasten my hair.

Tip On How To Make A scarf fastening

The scarf is fastened with an elastic circular hair scrunchie. I was looking at brightly coloured clips with serrated edges when my eyes lighted upon a large burgundy colour hair scrunchie.

Tip of the Day

Fasten your scarf with a hair scrunchie.

How To Make A Scrunchie

If you don't have one, make one. Either use a ribbonsewn around a piece of elastic. to make a rose to sit on top, spiral a piece of matching or contrasting ribbon, ideally using some or all of the same fabric.

How to cut off a matching piece from a scarf: To preserve the fringed edges of the scarf, cut an oblong section from the centre of the back of the scarf (dead centre of the scarf), where the join will be hidden under a coat collar or by your long hair.

To ensure the fabric does not fray too much and cause a ladder or too much trouble, cut a tiny snip in the centre with scissors.

To Match Hair Scrunch And Scarf Scrunchie

In a supermarket, buy a packet of scrunchies, or two packets. One can be used to fasten your hair, the other matching one to fasten your scarf.

If the small cut creates a neat edge, continue cutting.

If it frays badly, quickly sew the cut part together.

o Add A Button and Loop Fastening Scarf to Jacket.

To cover the hole or the knot, sew on a button.  Add a loop of ribbon to your favourite or most often worn jacket or coat. Match the loop to the size of the button, large enough for the button to slide through, small enough to hold it in place.

In addition to hiding the cut or lump, the button should be able to fasten your scarf so both sides hang level, and the scarf does not fall off and get dirty nor lost.  You might wish to add two more buttons and loops on the jacket or coat.

Make Multiple Garment Loops

You could add loops to several jackets if you wish to wear your scarf with more than one matching item. For example, a warm black scarf would have one button, and you sew loops on both a black mid-season autumn jacket and a black warm winter coat.

Summer and Evenings

Similarly, for summer or evening wear, sew a small fancy or mother of pearl button on the light scarf and small loops of satin ribbon on a couple of matching evening blouses or cotton or velvet or satin evening jackets.

Side fastening Scarf Scrunchie

If you want to wear your scarf at one side, to keep it out of the way when working at your laptop, or to show the collar and fancy central button of your blouse or evening blouse, fasten the scrunch to the side of your blouse or dress shoulder with a brooch.

Alternatively, sew a button on the scrunchie and a ribbon loop on the blouse. Or in rverse, sew the button on the blouse and the ribbon on the scrunchie.

To make the elastic scrunchie, measure your elastic first. It must be long enough to go around. It must be tight enough to hold in place (after adding the ribbon covering).  It must not be so loose that it falls off. If the scarf fabric is too shiny and slippery, you could use the button and ribbon fastening.

This is a great way to use up an odd button.  Check your blouse to see if it comes with a spare matching button. if you have a long blouse or shirt which you wear tucked inside your skirt, you can use that button where it is more visible.

Replace it with a button which will remain hidden (except when your blouse is hanging up to dry or hanging in a UK wardrobe or USA closet.

Matching Fabric Ribbon Made From Hems

You can also cut the hem, or inside hem if there is a big turn-up inside, to make a ribbon or bow or necktie or narrow scarf or a matching neck band to hold a pendant, again with a loop at the back to hold the pendant or tie central.
