Dress of the Day 127. That Hat! Where did you get that hat?

Dress of the Day 127 - smile with Angela.

The hat came with the jacket. I love the orange. Who made it? I look for the label. I find: Dry clean only. The Label is Vivienne Lawrence.

I rescued this jacket from my own junk suitcase. I was not keen on the squares on the scarf. I like curves, swirls, and  ovals, rather than geometric squares, and oblongs and triangles and stripes and checkboards and herringbone.

I had just put the jacket and sewn on scarf away for storage when I discovered the matching hat. Wonderful. I had been wanting an orange hat to go with all my orange clothes. I had ordered an orange cowgirl hat online but that does not suit every suit.

Then I found the hat to match the jacket and suddenly the jacket was transformed into a trendy, smart outfit.

More good news. I found two good features you and I could copy from this ensemble outfit.

1 The Miracle of Interfacing
The bow tie on the hat is made from the same fabric as the scarf. but while the scarf is soft, the bow is stiff. I have just discovered the purpose and advantage of interfacing. It sounds dull but it can transform your clothes. You can iron on a stiff fabric, or even simply sandwich it, as in the case of this bow, to make a firm bow which keeps its shape, so the bow can be seen.

2 Sew Scarves Onto necklines
The centre of one long side of the scarf is sewn on to the centre back of the jacket collar. The thread is just a centimetre of matching thread plaited and twisted to make it stronger. Just a tiny thread. Not the three, four, five or six buttons used to fasten heavy hoods to neck of winter jackets. One short thin, slightly thickened thread. Yet that is enough to hold the scarf in place.

Whey fasten the scarf? So that it always stays with the jacket - unlike my matching hat which had got separated. The scarf cannot be detached and lost in your wardrobe. The essential scarf cannot be dropped on the ground.

The fastening ensures the scarf always sits level both sides. That looks neat when both sides hang level either side of your front.  Or you can wear one side hanging down the front, the other side thrown over the opposite shoulder. Or tie your scarf in a bow to echo the bow on the hat.

You could also tie the scarf at the back - if you are walking around at an event and wish to attract attention.
