I had to create a red Santa outfit in a hurry for a speech to Tampines Changkat Toastmasters. My speech was entitled, How to enjoy Christmas Customs from around the world.

I knew I had at least one red Santa Claus hat saved from the previous year. Fortunately, they were all in a suitcase labelled Seasonal Props and Party Items for Christmas and Valentine's Day. I had all my Xmas stuff in one place, paper plates, banners, hats and so on. Items from a year ago were a complete surprise. 

I had bought some in the post-Xmas sales in supermarkets. The jingling bells in my hand were too small to be heard in a large room. However, they could be heard if I stood or sat near a microphone.
They created a prop for the photo.

I raided my wardrobe. Americans say Closet. I decided to hang all my red clothes together for the month of December.

Once I had all the reds together, I found the perfect top. Red. With a bow. This picture shows the bow in close up so you can see it better.

Tu Top
The red top is by Tu. The brand of a supermarket prevalent in the UK. The bow is cute and transforms what would otherwise be a plain tee-shirt. The bow is sewn on in three places, in the centre and the top of both wings or the bow. 


Not just a t shape teeshirt but gathered above the shoulder, with elastic.

If you want to create a bow from the same fabric, you could cut fabric from the centre front hem, or centre back hem. You can cut either a line, a ribbon,  or an oblong, or a triangle to make a v shape notch.  

Buying and Using Tailor's Chalk
Draw the cut out shape on the back of the garment using tailor's chalk. Why bother with tailor's chalk? Tailor's chalk washes out, and does not shatter into grains like ordinary blackboard chalk.  Order it from your country or from China. You can get it in a triangular piece or a pencil with a brush on the end.

I looked at the top's label. Tu. 95 per cent cotton. Five per cent elastane. It is stretchy so it fits tighter and looks good.

Tips On Storing Seasonal Clothes
If you are storing seasonal clothes such as boots, gloves, heavy hats, snow shoes and ski wear for winter or swimwear for summer, devise a system for locating items quickly. The same applies to evening wear.

1 Store seasonal clothes in a solid stacked suitcase with a Christmas label or wrapping paper attached to the handle or all the way around it. Send yourself an email recalling where it is. In your new diary, write the location of the seasonal clothes for Valentine's Day and Xmas under the dates Feb 1st, and/or Xmas Day or on December 1st. Keep old diaries in a shoe box or box file marked Diaries and stored alphabetically under the letter D for Diary. If you forget, look back at last year's diary.

2 Hang or fold clothes by colour. Red on the right. 

3 Shoes: Photograph your shoes. Stick the photos on the outside of shoe boxes. Keep black shoes on the left, L in black and L for Left. Keep white shoes on right. (White and right rhyme.) Unless you have another system. I am simply suggesting a system for you if you don't have a system and wish to start one.

What is this? My repair.  I have a lovely shiny, smart black slip, from Marks & Spencers. It has a slit with pretty lace edging.  But it is slightly tight. What to wear for a funeral? A black funeral coat from Marks & Spencers Outfit 291

The invitation said nothing about the dress code.  I know lots of funerals nowadays people were mixed colours. Some specify wearing jolly colours. My friend at the funeral told me, "Always wer black. Unles it specifies otherwise, the rule is, wear black." I had my usual blue anorak with the hood with me. I left it in the car. In the boot of the car, in case anybody broke into the car hoping to find money in the pockets or because they wanted a coat to wear or sell. The safest thing is to leave a completely empty car. At least everything in the boot so the car looks empty. I could have kept the blue anorak in my black tote bag. I always found they had small size clothes, and were pracical as well as pretty, and keenly priced. Mine is vintage. Probably from st Luke's in Hatch End in NW London. You can buy from their current range online. Of their current range, in January 2024, i like the reversible gilet in wine and pink. Brand clockhouse. Standup collar. Zip. They call the colour purple.
