How to reverse a tee-shirt for a new look. Add contrasting stripes to enliven plain tee-shirts. Dress 164. Well red.

I was looking for a red top to wear at a December Xmas theme event. I thought, before I take off my lipstick, I'll try on something new and red. There's a great song, Looking for something in red.

I found a red tee-shirt. I had no recollection of it. I must have rescued it in the days before Covid-19 when I would rescue abandoned 'pre-loved' clothes. This had a silly made up character on the front. No sohpisticated, for a child, or the follower of a cartoon characters, maybe. I turned it over to the plain side, and discovered that it had white stripes on the sleeve. Perfect.

The picture on the back would be hidden if I wore it back to front underneath a jacket. Alternatively, hide the back with a wide scarf, pinned onto both shoulders so that it does not slip. The front could be tied or pinned to ensure that the sleeves remain revealed.

You can see from my expression how delighted I am to have a completely new outfit from a tee-shirt which was doing nothing and previously just taking up space, actually annoying me when i looked at it. But now, when I look at it, I smile with delight.

You might be wondering, how often can you use this trick of reversing a top? If the garment has a tailored front with bust darts, and is tight across the back, when you reverse it, it might gap at the back and constrict under the arms or across the bust at the front. But if the garment has no darts, and/or is stretchy, you might be in luck.

If you want fancy sleeves, just google sleeve pattern.

DIY Striped Sleeves

Or you could create the same effect by buying a plain red or vivid colour tee-shirt. Sew on three concentric parallel lines across both sleeves.

What if you don't have enough braid for both sleeves? Sew on just one sleeve to create an asymmetrical look.

I hope I have provided useful information and entertainment. Wear bright colours. Start every day with a smile.

Enjoy!
