All red, dress of the day 195.

The red dress I have worn before, but this time it looks different. I was asked to wear red for a Toastmasters International meeting online, from a club based in California USA. Their dress code was red. This fitted in well with Chinese New Year which is next weekend, but starts on Thursday for those whose workplaces have given them a day off in lieu of a holiday day which would anyway be a day off at the weekend. (In other words, if they have a five day week, to get the two days off for Chinese New Year, they get Thursday off as well as Friday.

However, the USA group, saw red as the appropriate colour for another upcoming holiday, Valentine's Day..

So, here I am in red. Online only my top half was visible when I stayed seated. So not so much of me looked red. And two other ladies wore red hats. So I dashed off for a red hat.

The Belt

The belt is a scarf. I think the fringe adds a touch of glamour. It makes a change from the plain dress. My real reason for wearing it is that the dress is long. I need to hitch it up when I am moving. The front catches on the toe of my shoes when I walk. The hem gets wet if the floor is wet. The hem is likely to get dirty and stained.

To Make A Matching Belt

The dress is too long so I could cut off the hem. Use pinking shears to prevent the hem fraying. If your husband or father or son or family would not notice if you wore another dress or went naked, they won't notice that your hem is cut with pinking shears, or even wonky.

To prevent the hem being wonky, fold it and cut through four layers. Or draw a line with tailor's chalk which washes out, or measure and pin it up.

Using Cut Off Fabric

Use that spare fabric to make a matching belt, or a matching head band. Or make a choker. Or Lengthen the sleeves. If you don't have enough fabric to go all the way around, leave a gap. If you have too much fabric, make a pleat or gather it and have a frill.

Or make a strap for a pendant. If the fabric is too thick to go through the ring of the pendant, you can sew on a tiny loop, or sew on the pendant. Or make all four.

The last use for a piece of spare fabric is to spiral it and sew one side bunched up to create a rose effect. You can pin it on or sew it on. If the fabric is too flimsy to support a flower, the flower can be linked to a ribbon going all the way around, or diagonally over one shoulder, or a V-neck false neck. Or tie ribbon with the matching rose onto a a clutch bag for the evening.

Advantages Of Head Covering

I am wearing a red swimming hat. In addition to the eye-catching colour, it also covers anything you want to hide, such as a wonky parting, uncombed or tousled hair, frizzy hair, or hair roots, or a bald spot.

Advantages Of Open Shoes

I am wearing my favourite red shoes. The wedge heel and diamond effect glass is glamorous. The open sided toe post effect more common on flip-flops. This design is cool for summer or tropical weather outdoors, or by the pool or on a balcony or in an open-sides hotel in Bali, Indonesia. Open-toes and open-sided shoes might even suit you in cooler countries in a well-heated indoor room. Open sides keep your feet cool. No pressure on your toes. A chance to reveal your feet and toe nail varnish.

Attaching A False Collar

The white collar with the red embroidery is my favourite dickey. A dickey is a false shirt-effect which is just a removable collar. Here the tee-shirt sleeves in white match the collar and create the illusion that the collar is part of undergarment.

For more on a false collar see the next post.

Useful Websites

The words to use in your search are dickey, fake collar. Sites which sent me ads with pictures were amazon, lazada and wish.
