The white lace skirt and jacket are a matching set. The brand name is Temt. They are an 'affordable' shop, just what I like. I must have seen this at a bargain price. I would have thought, that looks great for a bride, but not for me. Besides the white will easily get stained if I drink coffee or eat a curry.

How to Shorten A Skirt

When I put the outfit on it consisted of a long skirt and jacket. The skirt was too long. I considered cutting off  a wide piece from the hem. I could use the strip as a headscarf, bandanna, or neck scarf. More usefully, I could use it to extend the skirt upwards and make a top.

How to Make A Top Piece

1 I could have attached the cut-off piece to the skirt. 

2 Or kept the top as a separate bandeau like a bra, 3 Or short, shoulder covering, short sleeve bolero. 

The simplest way would have been to make a bandeau. 

If that was too short to cover my bust, I had two further choices. 

4 I could use a second strip above the first, maybe by cutting more off the hem. 

5 I could cut off the front hem of the dress and leave the back longer.  

6 If that looked odd, I could cut triangles at the sides so a diagonal line would connect the two back and front hemlines.

7 Or cut a triangle out of the centre of the front hem.

8 Or two triangles, like mini pyramids over the front of each leg.

9 Or two triangles at the sides, one from each side hem.

10 Or, if short of fabric, instead of running the bandeau all the way around the top, cut it in two and put the two oblongs one above the other to make an apron front.

Pull Up The Skirt

Before cutting, I wondered if I could pull the dress up, as is done with some stretchy dresses sold as two in one skirt or dress outfits. I tried that and it worked. I now needed a skirt or slip to cover my legs. 

Finding Affordable Fashion

The company claims their mission is to bring affordable fashion.

The latest white dress on their website in March 2021 was a white minidress with a balloon skirt. The price was reduced from about 44.99 dollars to about 24.99 dollars.

What is this? My repair.  I have a lovely shiny, smart black slip, from Marks & Spencers. It has a slit with pretty lace edging.  But it is slightly tight. Blue H & M Dress, dress of the day 393

But I had a white blouse, so I wore this. On the internet and on Facebook you can see lots of videos of how to tie a scarf, but mine is simply hanging, which partly obscures the cleavage.  Cleavage cover I had a choice. To insert a dickey or false front, also called a removable or detachable collar. I have one or two which are plain white.  The alternative which saves hunting for a matching dickey without distracting collar colours and embrodiery, is simply to add a fastening. I decided that a snap or press stud fastener in small size is qhich to fasten and unlikely to pull apart (as opposed to hook and eye. Period pants from Savida. Pants, UK. In the USA they would be called underpants. They come in two colours, black or dark blue with a mottled effect. They are triple layer. Could be useful for hiking and travelling. Or when you have a cough.  A pack of three full briefs for fifteen pounds. I then googled period pants and found lots of results.  Marks Marks & Spencer do a pack of three containing three different colours, black, white and pink, for sixteen pounds.  They also do different absorbencies. The options range though light, heavy, and extra heavy. And more styles, such as pantaloon style, like short tight shorts coming half way down your thighs.
