The Orange Skirt
The linchpin of this outfit is the orange skirt. It looks like Thai silk. It is iridescent. Shiny. Luxurious looking. No label. The lining adds body.

The Blouse

The white blouse
The blouse is by Jacques Vert. Size 12.  But where the sleeves fit into the shoulders they are wide. 

The fabric is 100% polyester. The fabric is finely woven and soft as silk.

Made in Hong Kong. Hand wash at 30 degrees c. 

Blouse Buttons
The single button on each cuff has a buttonhole. The neck is fastened by two buttons, closely one above the other.  That keeps the neckline neat.

All the buttons, eleven of them, are covered with the fabric. You can buy larger buttons online which have a metal push in top and are designed for you to cover the top with fabric and push it in. The front buttons are fastened with small semi-circular ribbon loops.

The design is a V-shape pleating from the shoulders to half way down the join, just below the bust.

The Painting
The painting is not by me but advertises my name. I went to an art show by a girl who was a friend of my son. She was showing paintings with a friend. The friend had the cat and mouse painting with her own first name in the corner. 

I asked if she could repaint it with my name. But my name larger. 

How large? 
Twice as large. 
Half way might be better. 
That might look odd. Three quarters of the way across. Or centred? 
Why not all the way across? 
Yes.

 But it would not look right, unless it were painted curved. 
Yes. That would be great. 

The more I look at it, the more I like it. I love the way the tails of the cat and the mouse curve.

The Carpet

Chinese carpet in one of the four classic designs. These are

1 Rose/Flower 

- the most popular and widely available

4 Pictorial. 

Hard to find. Expensive. The pattern only goes one way. You cannot cover it with a table or chair or you ruin the effect. If you set it so that you see it when you walk in the door, with the people, and hills, and boats, and birds facing away from you. Then when you sit on a sofa facing the door, the everything is upside down. People are upside down. Four legged animals upside down. Pagodas upside down. People catching fish upside down. Flowers growing upside down.

 Carpet Cleaning

Carpets are a worry - you have to keep vacuuming or the carpet beetles or moths eat the edges and large patches. I am the only one who vacuums in my family.

If you want to be sure of the length of the pile, the softness of the finish, the brightness of the colour, you should go to see what you are buying. Discuss the price and quality with the seller. Ask why the dearest item is dearer. He will tell you everything which is wrong with the cheaper item. The cheaper item which he sells. And of course, the cheaper items sold by other companies.

What is this? My repair.  I have a lovely shiny, smart black slip, from Marks & Spencers. It has a slit with pretty lace edging.  But it is slightly tight. Blue H & M Dress, dress of the day 393

But I had a white blouse, so I wore this. On the internet and on Facebook you can see lots of videos of how to tie a scarf, but mine is simply hanging, which partly obscures the cleavage.  Cleavage cover I had a choice. To insert a dickey or false front, also called a removable or detachable collar. I have one or two which are plain white.  The alternative which saves hunting for a matching dickey without distracting collar colours and embrodiery, is simply to add a fastening. I decided that a snap or press stud fastener in small size is qhich to fasten and unlikely to pull apart (as opposed to hook and eye. Period Pants from Marks & Spencer & More, post 345

Period pants from Savida. Pants, UK. In the USA they would be called underpants. They come in two colours, black or dark blue with a mottled effect. They are triple layer. Could be useful for hiking and travelling. Or when you have a cough.  A pack of three full briefs for fifteen pounds. I then googled period pants and found lots of results.  Marks Marks & Spencer do a pack of three containing three different colours, black, white and pink, for sixteen pounds.  They also do different absorbencies. The options range though light, heavy, and extra heavy. And more styles, such as pantaloon style, like short tight shorts coming half way down your thighs.
