I ordered this dress from Shein because of the cape sleeve. I love my cape blazers which look very elegant.
I had seen my friend Vicky in her mother-of-the-bride cape dress in blue, so elegant. That dress looked perfect for a special occasion. Could you wear it again at other times. Or dye it, to make it look different.
The blue dress was too expensive for my everyday budget. Then I saw several cape sleeve dresses on Shein. I signed up to their website and got frequent updates on dresses which were newly added to the website and other offered in reduced price sales. Then up popped this red dress. The price was reduced from about forty dollars to about twenty. The postage free or cheap.
I had previously bought cape blazers from China, which were way too small. I had problems with Chinese made jackets which I bought from from Mustaphas department store in Singapore. Those marked as 3 X were tight on the sleeves and did not meet in the middle, so the buttons could not do up.
I also had troubles with Asian sizes when ordering bras from China. The largest available size, was still too small. The larger sizes were designed for flat breasted women.
So, I opted for a large size when I bought from Shein the tie on cape which is in one of my earlier posts. The cape, disappointingly, did not have cape blazer sleeves. No sleeves. The big size was big, as described, far too large. It fell off my shoulders.
Remembering my earlier experiences, this time, I at first selected size 4X. My reasoning was that I could always cut the item or sew it smaller.
At the last minute, I had second thoughts. My last purchase from Shein, at size 4 X, had been enormous. Therefore I changed the size and opted for 3X.
The result, as you see, was a dress way too large. What was too large? As you can see the skirt is so long I will trip over it if walking fast or up stairs. It will trail on the ground and get dirty.
The sleeves are floor length.
The armholes are enormous.
The neck is large and keeps slipping off.
I am not keen on the fabric. Yet I am still wearing it half an hour later. I love the bright red colour. It makes me happy.
The revealing cape shows too much of my forearms. My veins are sticking out! Yuk.
I researched veins sticking out. Was it the sign of heart trouble? Would I have a stroke? Would the veins punch through?
No danger. The cause was nothing life-threatening, merely cossmetic, simply thinner skin, ageing, and veins rising because of the temperature.
Photo Glamour
I looked at my dress photos from a year ago which pop up in Facebook. The older photos seem to me far more effective than the more recent poses. In the older photos I have interesting props.
This month my husband has got tired of taking photos. They are taken in a hurry. One. Done.
For this red dress I picked up a prop, a red fake flower. You hardly notice it.
I need more drama. Perhaps a red umbrella, or a pinky-red parasol.
The hearts were added in edit mode on my Samsung phone.
Second Look
After typing this I went and looked in the long mirror again. I noticed that the hem of the dress had picked up dust. (I need to sweep the floor or vacuum clean!)
I wanted to show the shoes. They match perfectly. My favourite red shoes. Toe post. Cool to wear. But high and glamorous.

In order to walk more easily, I hoisted the skirt up by pulling it up above the belt and letting the top at the front hang over the belt. That was an improvement.
I tried tying the arms of the cape at the front. That did not work. The sleeves were too tight across the top of my arms. How about tying the cape ends, the two front corners, behind my waist, and looking it through the belt at the back. I tried that. A vast improvement. I could not move freely.

I wrote on Shein's website:
I ordered large because so many clothes from China are too small, and it came up long on the floor with large armholes. However, when I hoisted it over the belt and tied the sleeve ends behind my back it was great. It looks better in the evening.
My picture was too small. My husband showed me how to put the picture into Paintshop and change the size to 500.
Whilst I was checking my height, which I know in feet and inches, I lost the webpage, so I copied my text onto here in case I again lost it and had to re-write it.
