Prepare for New Year. Champagne, crackers, gold, glitter, hats, masks, sequins, tinsel, noise
Champagne buying and storing
If you are on the email list of any supermarket or wine supplier, you may be getting lots of offers of Champagne, premium brands at high prices, or discounts. You might want to stock up for your next birthday or wedding anniversary. Champagnes and white wines are sold in dark green bottles to protect the contents from the light. A dark place, and a cool place, and one where temperatures do not fluctuate, is best. If the bottle has a cork, you need to store it horizontally to preserve the wine. Otherwise the cork dries out and shrinks and air gets in and spoils the wine. It turns to vinegar, acidic. The aromas escape. If in doubt, ask about storage when you buy or consult the seller's website, the supermarkets, the importers, the producers.
The wire cage around the cork is to prevent any accidents, accidental flying off of the cork.
Champagne Serving
Make sure the bottle is pointed away from people and breakables and valuables. You could put a cloth over the cork. Professionals turn the bottle rather than the cork, keeping tight hold of the cork.
Champagne normally has smaller bubbles which last longer in the glass, and a faint aroma to enjoy before you start sipping.
Crackers
When I spoke about crackers, a member of the audience though I meant food. Crackers make a noise when pulled apart. They have a folded, concerteenaed paper hat,
